you're welcome. But no, not all. I believe ragna's already done by suzaku and sesame/suzaku are doing hakumen's. That being said I don't plan to do the rest unless they're all very interesting.

Please, please, please translate Rachel's....

I have Taokaka's translated halfway since it's the easiest. I guess I should finish it.

Would it be too much to ask if you could supply a synopsis of the stories that don't have a translation yet? That would be positively awesome! Regardless, thanks a lot for the full translations you already posted.

noel's short story

THE BLUE:

Noel Vermillion. That became the girl's new name.

The girl that was a war orphan was adopted by Edgar Vermillion and his wife Clair into their family, and at the same time, that name was given to her.

The Vermillion household were nobility of some renown which, for many generations, had produced many distinguished knights who served in the Librarium. However, due to a weak constituion the current head Edgar was unable to join the military campaigns; in addition, they did not have any children to succeed the family line. Also, because they weren't afraid to openly criticise and protest against the Librarium (even though they were nobility), the Vermillion household was frowned upon by the Librarium and the other nobles, had their aristocratic privileges reduced, and their family line was ostracised.

While surviving on their dwindling family fortune their ancestors had amassed, the ruined family carried on with their lives and adopted Noel. In a tiny cottage in a backwater area with shallow sethir levels, Noel grew up showered with love from her adoptive parents. They were moderately happy, and the days passed by as such.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

A few years after her adoption, Noel came to know about the impending termination of the Vermilion household's aristocratic privileges.

The Vermilion house banished from the Librarium, and loss of their aristocratic privileges—— If that happened, that would mean even day to day life would soon become difficult. Worried about the future, Noel decided to become a knight in the Librarium, and so decided to take the entrance exams for the Military Academy.

“Dad, Mum. I, I want to become a knight in the Librarium.”

Noel suddenly dropped the bombshell while looking straight into her parent's shocked eyes.

“Noel...”

The knights of Librarium, as their names implied, were soldiers under the Librarium. Naturally, as a soldier, one was expected to devote their entire being to the service of the Librarium. If Noel became a knight then her family's privileges would be restored, and they would once again enjoy the patronage of the Librarium. Noel knew all that. Even though her parents protested against her decision, Noel's resolve remained firm.

The result of their discussion was that Noel was not to enlist as a combatant but to do office work—— which could be said as their final compromise.

Thus, Noel took the entrance examination for entry into the Military Academy. But, because she was entering halfway, she had to deal with another test. An test which placed priority of Ars Magus aptitude over knowledge, you could call it the real barrier within the barrier that stood in her way of enlistment.

However, not only did Noel's aptitude levels exceed far beyond the required standards, it was also the highest level ever recorded in history. For the 2nd time in recent years, the previous record was once again smashed by the current one. Noel easily passed her exams—— in addition, she was specially invited into the Military Academy.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

6 months before Noel was due to graduate from the Academy, an incident happened. The school was abuzz with a certain topic.

“Did ya hear did ya hear!? Kisaragi-senpai, he went and did something cool!”

The one who noisily rushed into the classroom after school was none other than Noel's roommate, the half squirrel beast-kin Makoto.

“Please calm down Makoto. What happened to Jin?”

Also Noel's roommate, hailing from 1 of the Duodecim's families, Tsubaki Yayoi chided her friend while calmly replying.

“After evaluating his actions during the Ikaruga civil war, he's been promoted by 2 grades!”

While waving a newspaper that had the words “Extra!” printed on it in large font, Makoto excitedly continued to blab on. The newspaper caption read “1st Lieutenant Jin Kisaragi, has been promoted to become the youngest Major in recorded history. He also has been appointed as the division commander of the 4th Thaumaturgical Division”

“ A double promotion... Besides those who were killed in the line of duty, has that ever happened before?”

“Somehow, since he was only there for 2 days, I think a single promotion would have fitted more-”

As soon as she recalled that name that was already fading from her mind, Noel remember her deeply emotive feelings.

1st Lieutenant Jin Kisaragi... wrong, Major. A graduate of the Academy, a a student senior to Noel and company. Serving in the student council she had faced him numerous times, and had spoken with him before. Perfect in every way and quiet... no, that wasn't right, his frosty image made him a difficult senior to deal with. Noel absent-mindedly stared at the large photo of Jin published in the newspaper that was lying on top of the desk.

“Jin Kisaragi...”

While saying his name, the image that Noel only saw once in her entire time in school; the image of Jin with a lunatic expression on his face, flashed across her mind, and Noel caught her breath.

“What's wrong? Your breathing seems ragged... Are you that happy for Jin's accomplishments?”

“N-no, that's not it...”

“You really shouldn't joke about this kind of thing... so, you are really feeling ok?”

With a worried face, Tsubaki looked over at Noel who had denied not feeling well with a weak voice.

“Ah, yes. I'm fine.”

Noel did her best to smile as she replied.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

That person arrived exactly on time. A solidly built old man dressed in a blue uniform.

“Ms Noel Vermillion?”

“Yes.”

Her nervousness increased.

“I am from the Personnel Department of the main branch. My purpose today is to inform you about the orders regarding your transfer. Do you understand?”

“... Yes."

“Very well. These are the instructions given from the Librarium to you. Cadet Noel Vermillion. We at the Novis Orbis Librarium hold your potential in extremely high esteem. We hope to appoint you to an official posting. In exchange the Vermillion family will have it's rights restored and you will be guaranteed your posting permanently."

Noel's eyes widened. Resisting the urge to ask him to repeat himself, Noel scrutinised his expression.

His face remained unchanged. The Librarium being interested in a lowly cadet to this extent was unheard of.

“Um... That is... What would I have to do... if I accepted?”

“Firstly, you'll have to take and clear an exam, then you'll be entered into the 4th Thaumaturgical Division. Following that you'll be assigned to Jin Kisaragi as a special solo combatist under his direct supervision, and you'll be observing his actions as our “link” to him”

—— Why me?

Put simply, a “special solo combatist” was a spy and an assassin. Officially she would be under Major Kisaragi to do paperwork, in other words she would become his ministral secretary... Noel bit her lip. In her mind Jin's image flashed before her.

(Kisaragi-senpai's direct subordinate...)

Cold sweat trickled down her cheek. It was true that her Armagus aptitude scores were the highest ever recorded in history. However, she thought that couldn't be all. If you talked about results then Tsubaki was head and shoulders above her, and in terms of battle ability there were plenty of more outstanding people. Noel thought about it long and hard.

In the midst of her indecision, she finally came to 1 acceptable conclusion. Put simply, even though “her level of potential” and “her level of results” weren't exactly very high, to the Librarium, she was just usuable in her own way, and simply another “disposable when convenient person”...

Futhermore the Librarium had caught on that “Noel's weakness” was her family, and were taking advantage of this fact

However, even with those conditions, if she were to accept——

With a frail cough her father discussing their loss of special rights and her mother encouraging him. And also the image of her only looking from shadows without being able to do anything. That scene ran through her mind.

—— I humbly accept the posting.

I intentionally gave my answer respectfully. That's right, the me now should be able to endure it. I should kill off my heart. That is what I was taught being a Librarium knight means.

rachel's story is... annoying. But yeah I'm already working on hers

Would it be too much to ask if you could supply a synopsis of the stories that don't have a translation yet? That would be positively awesome! Regardless, thanks a lot for the full translations you already posted.

Don't take this the wrong way, but with the time I'd take to do synopsises of all the stories, I could probably do a proper translatation of 1 story, and I rather do a proper translation of 1 story. You have any specific 1 in mind?

Off handedly I do recall bang's story chronicles the ikaruga civil war somewhat, carl visits his uncle and aunt with ada in tow, aunt freaks out but uncle is unfazed.

A synopsis of Ara's story would be greatly appreciated.

I'll try doing arakune after I'm done with rachel's.

Just want to say I appreciate the translations. My Japanese is solely lacking and it's really difficult for me to get through these on my own. These make great references for both practicing my Japanese and just for the story aspect of it. So, thanks again for the hard work.

The one I'm most curious about is indeed Carl's story. Even more so, now that you mentioned that Ada was still human!

i dont think he means with her as human, judging by how the aunt freaks out =x

My bad then. I automatically assume people refer to her human form when they use the name Ada instead of Nirvana. Still got me curious though!

Yeah, I forgot to mention ada is already nirvana. Aunt more or less freaks out because she's a nox. Uncle believes carl (that ada is nirvana).

I'll just write what I've gleaned from the rest of the stories that I've already glanced at.

Bang

Chronicles the ikaruga civil war. Then jumps to bang in ronin gai talking to his subordinates about writing down their tenjou's legacy since the nol's version is probably heavily distorted.

Arakune

His descent into madness. According to the story he starts to really lose it around day 43 onward. By 51 he's almost incoherent and just rambling.

Okay.. so Ragna's Nox being a time paradox, it is counted out of the ten created. What I'd like to know is how Jin, despite the weapon being taken care of by Jubei, who's location was not public knowledge, recognized the sword as a Nox. (I take this from Calamity Trigger, when he states that he didn't know Ragna had the capacity to use one. Sorry, too lazy to quote it. =w=)

...What? Are you talking about Ragna's sword or his Azure Grimoire? Neither of them are Nox Nyctores in any case.

Ragna has never used a Nox. Jin states Ragna's using Ars Magus and that he's surprised because Ragna didn't have the aptitude to use it before. He then wonders if Ragna can use Ars Magus because of the Azure Grimoire. Nothing to do with Ragna's sword.

Was Tager a NOL officer or Ikaruga officer before his first death? I flipped through the book and I cannot find the info in sections related to him. Someone mentioned before that the info is in the book somewhere. Can anyone tell me which section/page?

Posted

Judging by the fact that he got fucked up in the war and holds Jin in contempt when he sees him, he's probably from the Ikaruga side. Since anyone on that side got fucked up, as in the case of bang. Hope that helps.

Posted

Wait a minute, Tager died around the church incident, right? By then, NOL and Ikaruga were on stalemate, so he can be from any side. Some people say that he's from NOL, some say that he's from Ikaruga, so I'm confused.

I don't think Jin had anything to do with his death. It's just that everyone but a few in the game hates Jin.

I have read Trigger Shift short stories from BBCS Material Collection (thank you SolarMisae for the scan). I don't find much information inside, unlike the first book. It's pretty impressive they can write so much with so little content.

The story is set right after BBCT true end.

- Rachel went back to her mansion to visit her late dad's room underground (that's the only place she couldn't teleport to). That room used to seal something, but it's not explained what or why. Rachel wondered if she was doing the right thing and why did her dad gave birth to her.

Note: the term used is really "gave birth", which is weird. I suppose Rachel was a product of asexual reproduction.

- Destruction of Kagutsuchi's NOL branch was blamed to bombing terrorist attack by Ragna. At the same time various places in Kagutsuchi were also suffering from bombing attack, allegedly by Ragna. The Tsukuyomi seal that Rachel used in BBCT true end was thought to be Ragna's magic. Litchi was busy taking care of civilian casualties from the "bombs". Tao was helping her transporting medicinal supplies. Bang's subordinates were helping her transporting patients in and out of the clinic. Tager brought a critically injured Bang and left him outside. Bang's subordinates brought him into the clinic (while crying because they thought he's not going to make it). Litchi slapped him lightly to wake him up. Bang thought that he's in heaven because (1) it was not a dream, and (2) there's no other way that he woke up with Litchi in front of him IRL. Litchi went "tsukkomi" mode and reflexively slapped him and he passed out again. People were relieved that Bang was still lively. Litchi took mental notes to question Bang about what happened in NOL branch, because she didn't believe the terrorist cover story. While Bang subordinates took Bang into treatment room, Litchi found out that a red giant brought Bang in, so she rushed out to talk to Tager but Tager had left.

Note: I believe that all the "bombs" in the city is because Tsukuyomi could not perfectly protect the city nor the NOL branch.

- Outside of Litchi's clinic, Tager was impressed with how lively Bang was despite his injuries. He left and reported to Kokonoe. Kokonoe told him that Haku was back under her custody and for Tager to ignore Arakune and get back.

- Meanwhile, Arakune was still loitering around, but he started to remember Litchi.

- Jin wanted to go to the basement, where Ragna went (to meet Nu), but the wall collapsed en route there, so he decided to leave the building and collapsed. 3 NOL officers picked him up.

- The NOL officers that picked Jin up reported to Hazama, who went back to the airship heading to 3rd hierarchical city Iwasu. He told the officers to take Jin to the 5th ship and that the ship should stand by. He ordered tea and boiled eggs from his attendant and while his attendant was gone, he called Relius to report that Noel had inherited the Azure. Relius was interested in how a failure like her could do it and wanted to see her in person and did a couple of tests. Hazama told him to go to Iwasu and meet him there. He also called Tsubaki and told her to meet him in Iwasu.

Note: He reported to Relius but surprisingly not to Saya. Presumably Saya was still not awoken yet or maybe she's in Iwasu.

- Carl was sleeping on Ada's lap in some alley.

- Ragna dug himself and Noel out of NOL branch basement. He was pissed at Rachel for not teleporting them out when the basement collapsed and irritated at Noel's clumsiness. Noel followed him outside (tripping on her butt) and was shocked that he called her "slowpoke".

Other than a new timeline, there's not much new info in the book. When I browse the book I find a lot of copy paste from the first book. I'll take a crack on the timeline when I can put my DS down.

Since Suzaku plans to tackle the timeline. I figure I should translate other informative stuff.

- Valk used to oppose Rachel's dad, but after being saved by him, Valk became his servant. (hmm, Disgaea 4 deja vu) Valk has soft spot for Rachel, which is why he chose to stay even after Clavis died.

- Continuum Shift phenomenon is caused by Noel's mental instability after she obtained the Azure, rather than being created by Takamagahara. Hazama turns Noel into Kusanagi based on Takamagahara's order, rather than Hazama's own plan. (makes sense, that's why he was not upset when Noel reverted back).

- Shuichiro Ayatsuki developed Kushinada's arrow tips (not sure about the meaning of the kanji 楔) - I didn't read Phase 0 or 1 so I have no clue what this is. It is supposedly an anti Seither nuke based weapon meant to be shoot somewhere inside the boundary to stop seither flow. The weapon whereabout is unknown. Relius is searching for it.

- Sector 7 is trying to find a method to nullify grimoires.

- Takamagahara was initialized to replace Amaterasu to manage time space. It manages Nox Takemikazuchi. Alucard family opposes its prioritizing preservation of the world at the expense of ignoring human will. It is now controlled by the Imperator and operates to destroy Amaterasu (translation confirmation will be nice here).

- Power of order rejects phenomenon and existence, including interference phenomenon (what is interference phenomenon again?). It requires absolute will. It is described as the opposite of observation. Depending on who has the stronger will, either rejection or observation will occur. In short, if Jin wishes enough, he can erase anything he wants, just like if Noel (and any powerful observer) wishes enough, she can create anything she wants.

- Apparently at a certain point, Ikaruga gained momentum in the war with NOL. Ikaruga leaders and Sector 7 wanted to expand their influence further (as in attacking other cities that were under NOL, rather than just defending Ikaruga territories), but Tenjou opposed. As a result, he didn't have good relationship with the other leaders and sector 7.

- Fun fact about Nago, he's a masochist. (so he does enjoy being Rachel's meat shield)

- Hihiirokane can cut spirits as well as bodies. (Jubei's brother's sword from Phase 1)

- Platinum lives in ruins in Ibukido. She came to Kagutsuchi as per Jubei's request.

- Takamagahara wanted to create a phenomenon called Doomsday (weird, it's contradictory to their mission to preserve the world - maybe they intend to preserve the world but kill off all the humans)

- Makoto excels at ars that boost physical power. She betrayed NOL due to doubts against NOL's policy.

- Seither's true form is particle type program. Grimoires are also called "Code". (no idea what this is supposed to mean)

- Magic capital Ishana is located in an island in Atlantic Ocean. The barrier makes it invisible normally, so you need to enter in a certain way. It was the safest place on earth during the war with black beast and thus it was said that many patricians sought refuge there.

- Murakumo units get their unlimited supply of energy using their connections to the boundary. It is said that the other 9 nox were created as tests subjects in order to create Murakumo.

- It is unclear whether Ragna's motive for attacking NOL is destruction of cauldrons, or the murakumos, or sth else.

It's nice that power of order is explained, but what is interference phenomenon again? Was it ever mentioned?

It's Kushinada's lynchpin. It's meant to be powered by Caelica (and would have killed her), and as of phase 0 it was in Shuuichirou's old lab.

Very interesting stuff, thanks for these TLs!

Anyway, I think Ragna's motive for the stuff is either personal or has a purpose, probably because Rachel ou Jubei told him something about the horrific experiments.

I think it was mentioned earlier on as various things that interfere with causality?

Or it could be like those abilities in activating grimoired whenever someone says, "Dimensional interference field deployed."

Have the other grimoires appeared yet? I thought Kokonoe said that the Azure was actually the weakest of all the grimoires.
