Here's a question I've been pondering for quite some time.

What is Baldhead's instant kill, and what happens? I don't have the original game, so I can't find this out for myself. I found a video on youtube with the original IK of everyone but Baldhead. I really want to know because I think some characters IK was better in the first game (Zato, I'm looking at you!) and I wonder if Baldhead's could possibly top Faust's.

Baldhead throws his victim into the air then props his scalpel blunt end down so the blade is facing upward. The victim comes back down and is then impaled by said scalpel. Finally, Piece by piece, a Japanese tombstone falls upon the victim, crushing him or her.

It's kinda morbid, but awesome none the less.

Isn't Zato's GG1 IK a command throw now?

Wow...That's awesome! But it doesn't top the power of the fro!

Mind posting that?

Here it is. It's kind of laggy, but it's still pretty good.

How relevant is Slash Back? I understand how to do it, and what it does, but if you mistime it, you're defenseless for 30 frames? That's a big risk. I don't see it too often in match vids. Is it because of the risk or simply because there are better options (like blocking, instant blocking)?

I get the feeling that (at least in Japan), it will become more relevant as the game progresses. Currently, the game isn't very thoroughly known as far as what blockstrings are possible, tricks to do less risky SBs (Slash barrier, FDC->FB are already known) etc.

But just because it'll be more important... doesn't mean you'll see it more. People will gradually learn to do slashbacks in numerous situations, forcing people to vary their blockstring game, sometimes to the point of making more breakable strings. The risk-reward will shift, so that being punished for a breakable string will sometimes be more desirable for doing a predictable/easy to SB string, getting SB'd, and getting punished worse. I've already started to see this happen in Portland (not even a very strong scene), as our resident Slayer has learned to SB almost any string ending in Jam's 6H, thus making Hintalove more hesitant to do it in a blockstring against him.

But this is all theory fighter. I can't claim to know how the game will develop, maybe SB will never catch on, or will be determined to be too risky to try. Who knows?

Digital Watches -

Good post. Interesting to hear how, in theory, it could alter the game; similar to 3S (my main game) and how parries effect people's strings and pokes.

How relevant is Dead Angle? I know it's difficult to use effectively if your opponent has you in a block string (using quick attacks), and it costs a ton of tension... but in almost every other fighting game that has had a similar defensive attack, it's been pretty useful (CvS2) to almost mandatory (Alpha 2). Advice for a GG newb?

Well, it all really depends on how good the character's DAA is, and how many other options they have to get out of situations where you'd use one. For most characters, there are at least a few situations where it's probably optimal, but the moves differ a lot. Unfortunately, like any other move, DAAs can be baited and punished, which means loss of 50% meter and probably a combo's worth of life. It's a risky move, but necessary in many cases, sort of like Burst.

Since I got the US version of AC I've decided to learn more about the game and hopefully get better (been a big fan of GG for about a year). And I began to ponder:

How important is it for a new player to learn frc's?

I know it must depend on which character you're learning, but since everyone has FRCs :( ?

It's critical to learn FRCs.

1.Gives mixup/pressure.

2.Can lead into damage.

3.Can start/continue combos.

4.Can remove the chances of you being punished for using [insert move]

Learn the ones that are important and critical to your character's playstyle. Learn your character first then worry about whoever else. IT CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE.:toot:

hatred pwned the last question.

You know, cranking up your post count doesn't really matter here seeing as it's not displayed.

FRCs shouldn't be until after you've got the basics down. I don't consider FRCs basics. First, you have to get used to how different GG is from every other fighting game, i.e. how throws, dusts, overheads, juggles, normals, uppercuts and everything else work. All of this takes a while, and the more you play, the more you'll pick up. Too many people skip all of that and go striaght to practicing combos/execution. This way, you're not still all "WTF?????? CHAEP" after the 100th time your okizeme was thrown, your jump-in was 6Ped, your tech was airthrown, your burst was baited, your lack of FD in the air gets you hit, ABA keeps getting away with FB superarmor, ETC ETC ETC ETC

Truth. I'm new to GG, but have been picking Testament at a decent pace. However, FRC EXE Beast is still not even close to a weapon in my arsenal (pun intended), because I still need work on BASIC stuff; setting traps, spacing, pokes, basic/universal combos (like, super easy ones), anti-airs, air-to-airs, etc...

It's like if you've never played 3rd Strike before, and you started to learn Urien's charge partitioning before his pokes and ranges. Great, you can dash EX headbutt once in a while, but you're using his horrible c.MP as a poke instead of his godly c.MK?

EDIT: BTW, are EX colors tourney legal? If so, how do I access them when selecting my character? Testament's EX (P) and EX (K) colors are sooooooo much better than his "normal" options...

Having a bit of trouble IAD'ing, is the movement 7,4,4/9,6,6 or 7,5,4/9,5,6 ?

A semi-related question, when using a sanwa stick for GG is there any particular benefit using a octagonal over a four way restrictor or is it just personal preference?

Hope this is in the correct section, if it needs to be moved to character specific forums then that's cool.

I have a problem with throws, or rather getting throwed in general. I always seem to run into throws. I know why, coz of the 1 frame advantage and stuff, but it's real frustrating to try to go for pressure and getting thrown and punished.

Best example of the problem I'm facing is like when I use Sol, GF Frc run up wild throw. But I always get thrown before I get the wildthrow in. Esp against Testament. Today I ate needless badland loops. :( Am I doing the wildthrow too late, or is there something else I should take note of. I've tried dash breaking too, but it hasn't been that successful.

Thanks for the help.

Wild Throw has longer range than normal throws. If you space it properly, you cannot be counter-thrown going for a Wild Throw. That's the main thing. The other thing is to just have really good throw setups and to not try and tick throw all the time.

You also may just be throwing too late though, couldn't really say without seeing.
