EternalLurker Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I want to use the most underplayed and unexpectedlearn eddieI lol'd
DoomieJ Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 May being annoying > Zappa being annoying I fucking hate that stupid loli cunt. She gets to jump around the screen all free and shit. Definatly the most annoying character i play. Hard to bait anything out of her because if you did, she would make it work. And may is easier than zappa. Or Bridget. But she is commonly used.
Robo-Potemkin Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Use Robo-Ky and spam his air dust attack for every air combo...
krazykone123 Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I lol'd As did I, ...for some reason I wanna sub i-no now lol ...
Honnou Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 POTEMKIN IS THE MOST ANNOYING CHAR EVER THE END srsly or play faust cos he is easy (as far as gg goes) and has a fun random factor. IT FEELS LIKE SMASH BROS OMG
Mahouko Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 May being annoying > Zappa being annoying I fucking hate that stupid loli cunt. She gets to jump around the screen all free and shit. But she is commonly used. shes with the dolphins, doing flips and shit...... frekin boat But yea MAIN BRIDGET....... we need people to use her
Jakestation Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Testament piss them off with traps, forward exe-beast is good against pretty much anything, leads to damaging loop. Potemkin, at lower levels i promise 6hs slidehead is deadly at okizeme. will surely piss off some players
EternalLurker Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Ya know, it just occurred to me that this thread is relevant.
Jais Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Zappa, Dizzy, A.B.A., Baiken, I-no, and Bridget. Between these six I want to use the most underplayed and unexpected that's annoying to fight against. Do you want to be annoying at high level(Bridget) or at a low level(Zappa) or at all levels(Baiken) Here's how I rank em for you, at high level play. Annoying - Annoying being 9/10 times ppl drop something and go," ooh yeah I need to do this to this character." 1)Baiken(even ii you bait Sakura, it has an FRC and she gets advantage, you can't bait sakura, FB and Ahrun simultaneously in an efective way, 1F jumps are frustrating when you want to throw her) 2) ABA( Fucked up standing hitbox, hella late wake-up) 3)Bridget (When she is in the air, only(SL,TE,BA,SO,AX) chars can capitalize off of a hit against her via damage or KD) 4-6) Not annoying Underplayed- # of high level players I know for each char There are 2 high level; Bridgets, Zappas, Baikens, ABAs, I-nos. There are 3 high level Dizzys. Unexpected - Psyduck - Does this mean mix-up? Does this mean something different than Underplayed? Is this some personal thing where you friends don't expect you to play a certain style of character? -------------------------------------------------------------------- Hits like a little boy, takes damage like a bitch. One of the few things going for him is his great movement. But since he can't take it and he can't deal it, the risk/reward skews his successful strategies towards run away and playing the clock. Weak character, high execution, and few people play fighting games so that they can not fight ( a.k.a. play a run away game) This is explained very well. Here is my lil' addendum. To be 'good' with Bridget you must be 'good' at Guilty Gear. It is a lot easier to learn the engine first than switch to Bridget. (eg. air throw, air IB for jump options, FD break, burst bait.) To be 'great' with Bridget you must be 'great' at fighting games. (eg. defense, reading opponent, baiting, spacing monster, throwing, hit confirming in 2 normals, safe jumps, etc.) Learning Bridget is a barrage of relentless losing to ppl worse than you, for a while.
Hellmonkey Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Learning Bridget is a barrage of relentless losing to ppl worse than you, for a while. That's called playing poorly. If you're losing to people worse than you in GGAC, your character is never the reason, especially at the level of play outside Japan. Also, to be good with any character in GG, you need to be good at GG itself. Even Potemkin players cannot get by just knowing Potemkin, and he gets away with it more than the rest of the cast. I would never recommend learning another character first that isn't who someone wants to main, because every character's movement and normals vary significantly and to get a natural feel for a character requires a bunch of playing time either way.
Jais Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I don't believe it's playing poorly as much as it is : You are playing to the best of your experience/knowledge but you are still in a process of *learning*. Playing poorly implies: one has the knowledge but is not applying it richly. Tangent-I think one learns more by losing than winning. We agree, to be good with any character in GG, one needs to be good at GG itself. My point in stating char/GG abstraction was for OP to look at him/her self and see which part needs leveled up, specifically. We agree, we do not recommend learning another character, first. I do think It is a lot easier to learn the engine itself (the universal rules) using a more...rounded character than one that is so quirky (specific instances differing from universal rules)
Hellmonkey Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Well, you specified players "worse" than you which certainly made it sound like you have the knowledge/skill to beat them but can't because of the character. I agree that you learn more by losing, but only if your opponent is significantly stronger than you, if not you will learn most by adjusting during matches and pulling out wins. (any other mindset than this is why so many people stay scrubs) The GG system (movement, burst/bait, blocking options, throws) fits into different character's playstyles so differently I really don't think anything is gained by playing another character first to learn the basics, just because the character someone wants to play is "quirky".
DioBrando Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Rather then making a new topic, I was looking for a new character to learn on the side but I don't know which one. I currently play Testament as main and have Eddie, Slayer, Ky, and Johnny for casuals. Was wondering if anyone can recommend me someone else based on these characters. Can't be too heavy on execution.
excelence Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Order Sol... it's all about freestyle rush down baby
Zerite Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 These characters all control space except for slayer. Faust is a reasonable choice from what people who play him tell me as he has "fisher-price combos" and can control space, though in spurts of spacial control. He's not as good at this as Ky, Eddie or Testament, but he comes close under skilled play and is vastly more random. Jam is a combo fest, and doesn't control space quite as well as most of the characters you listed, but like slayer she does ridiculous damage all the time because she does ridiculous damage all the time off of everything. May kind of combines these things, and is fine if you are okay with charge moves.
Digital Watches Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Dio: Lawl why? There's a point where it's like... you're just picking random characters. For the most part I don't even recommend being too serious about a second character until you've got a pretty good idea of the game (IE are pretty advanced). Here you have, what, 4 alleged "casual" characters and want recommendations for a fifth? It's fine to play random characters whilst dicking around, but do you really need us to tell you who to randomly pick?
DioBrando Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I'm just looking for someone that may be similar to the ones I play and pick them up. I am trying to learn as many characters as I can to get a general sense of what they are capable of and possibly learn their mindset if I were to play against them. Its impossible to play and learn all 23 characters, but having more background knowledge playing as them rather than watching videos might be helpful. Its specifically aimed for match-up knowledge.
Digital Watches Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Do you not have a lot of competition? Learning matchups can be done to an extent that way, but it's much faster (And ultimately almost completely necessary, at a high level) to just play someone who's decently good at that character. If that's really what you're doing, I'd say pick up someone who no one in your scene plays.
