Tsubasa Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Just FYI, we are banned from SJSU. Long story short, the staff got fed up after people started bringing in console setups. To be completely accurate, we were never officially banned. They just posted a "no personal gaming" notice. Also, that only applies to the bowling alley, which wouldn't be large enough to accomodate for 100ish people anyway. NorCal MB reguarily sessions @SJSU in the student union and/or a communal room in the student dorms. SJSU is probably just as viable as any other school. It just depends on whether we'd be able to get a classroom or something like that.

Plus, this looks promising to me. Get a professor to sign off on it, and I think you'd be golden. http://www.union.sjsu.edu/SU/SU_Event_Services/SU_Room_Layout/LomaPrieta/ballroom/ballroom.html

It's a little too spacious, but that's half the price of a hotel conference room.
Dacidbro Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 And we could set up chairs dining style and have a 360 degrees TV in the middle of every table! This is awesome!
TaoFTW Posted June 23, 2010 Author Posted June 23, 2010 The only problem that I have with that venue is that SJSU parking sucks and require you to pay money. D: Parking + Entry fee + Tournament entrance won't encourage a high turnout. How's the situation with De Anza looking?

D: Parking + Entry fee + Tournament entrance won't encourage a high turnout. How's the situation with De Anza looking? Haven't had time to look into it yet due to my finals being this week. I'll try and get around to it next week. May need to wait till summer session starts to ask since school services will be limited when no class is going on.
RinHara5aki Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 You're willing to pay almost 600 dollars a venue? And thats "cheap" ??? Holy shyt D: So I talked to Video Bob again, he says now 40 people maximum. But he seems to support this ordeal since I said "IPW", and IPW regularly covers his weekly SSIV ranbats. There is also a pizza parlour closeby that can hold more people. But has pretty crappy internet according to him.. Just throwing that out there, want to keep as many options as possible.

Well assume 100 people go, thats a $6 venue fee for everyone so its actually not bad. The only problem would be if we needed to pay in advance or not...

Well, you can certainly do cheaper: http://www.union.sjsu.edu/SU/SU_Event_Services/SU_Room_Layout/Umunhum/umunhum.html IIRC, the parking is $5 for all day until midnight if it's on a weekend. Which isn't bad, especially if people carpool.
qwerty Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 yeah i was about to say if people carpool it shouldn't be so bad and let's face it, that's what fuckin EVERYONE ends up doing whether they want to or not
TaoFTW Posted June 23, 2010 Author Posted June 23, 2010 Well, you can certainly do cheaper: http://www.union.sjsu.edu/SU/SU_Event_Services/SU_Room_Layout/Umunhum/umunhum.html IIRC, the parking is $5 for all day until midnight if it's on a weekend. Which isn't bad, especially if people carpool. Oh wow. $230 is DEFINITELY doable. I would have to go inside the building to check it out, but that looks like our best alternative. So for the NorCal Minor, we would have to do a $10 entrant fee - $3 towards the venue, $1 for streaming, and $6 for the pot. Whatever is leftover will be applied towards the streaming fee/pot. This means I need some people from the SJSU crew to step up their game and ask what are the rules n' what-not to reserve this room. If you need help asking the questions, then I'll come by with you to ask. You're willing to pay almost 600 dollars a venue? And thats "cheap" ??? Holy shyt D: $600 for a ballroom, that's twice the size of Domain Hotel, is better than renting out Marriott Hotel conference rooms that's $130 per HOUR.
STenSatsu Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Uh, I don't know if we would pay the 230 or the 400. It says 230 for SJSU department which sounds like it'd have to be a club thing or some such.

Riotblade and I have been trying to start up a FG club, since the beginning of the school year, so we could host events like this.
Tsubasa Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 We should probably be talking about the minor planning. We have anything cemented yet? Is there anything you want us to do, John?
TaoFTW Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 We should probably be talking about the minor planning. We have anything cemented yet? Is there anything you want us to do, John? Find a venue before we can talk about the way the tournament is going to be run.
RinHara5aki Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I'm at Eudemonia right now. This can definitely do 40. I'm not giving them a date for the venue yet since it should go through you first~ A couple of things here- -There isn't any wireless, BUT they have LAN lines possibly for us to use. So streaming is a maybe. -Parking is bat-shit TERRIBLE. Its expensive, hard to get around, and hard to find. -The front consists of computers/moniters, the middle consists of 4 tables with plenty of chairs, and there seems to be an unused back room with plenty of space. I'll email info@eudemonia.net if you guys want to reserve a spot. They seemed kinda unsure about pricing, they might charge. But I'm sure it'll be a hellavalot cheaper than this 600 venue thingy you're thinking about D:
Dacidbro Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Expensive parking... eeeeesh that's a big one. With bad pricing on parking, the venue fee can almost double.

You'd have to find people willing to pay for the regular parking but it would sure as hell make it cheaper overall...
RinHara5aki Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 The girl there Judy (She was really friendly :3) said it is pretty tough for parking. I didn't ask about shopping mall parking, which there isn't really here in Berkeley.. She did suggest planning for a SUNDAY event though if we ever do, as its free street parking at that point, and schools are usually less busy (UC Berkeley is right next door). Here are some pics of the place I took to get a feel for size~ Its actually a nice place. Its just very... Magic/Starcraft/WoW friendly ... DAT MMO SHTUFF :3
OrionXElite Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Wow that looks really good in terms of size. If we could reorganize the place a bit, I'm sure we could fit everyone there! And free Sunday parking sounds awesome even thought this may need to be a full weekend event due to the size of it...
Ginseng Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Its actually a nice place. Its just very... Magic/Starcraft/WoW friendly ... DAT MMO SHTUFF :3 It's a LAN cafe, of course it's going to cater to MMOs and pc gaming.
ehuangsan Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Find a venue before we can talk about the way the tournament is going to be run. What's with this FAIL? What happened to the SJ site? Even at 480, that shouldn't be too bad.
Arifureta Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 If people don't mind walking, there's a bunch of residential areas by UC Berkeley. It'll take some creative street navigating to find an empty spot, but it beats parking fees.
TaoFTW Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 What's with this FAIL? What happened to the SJ site? Even at 480, that shouldn't be too bad. The reason why I want to stay away from SJSU is because there's no clubs willing to host our tournament. The price is double for people who want to reserve the space (outside of the SJSU frats). Edit: If you guys want to run the tournament on Sunday at the Berkeley place, then do it. I can't get time off of work to run it - since I have no more vacation days - but you guys should feel empowered to try it out. Edit2: I suggest we hold off on the minor until we get BBCS DLC available.
