Well the first step is the deciding the exact date, and confirmation. Then I need to relay the info to our Club rep.

Just FYI, the EU place in Berkeley has a parking garage. As for date, let's look into either the 8/28 or 5/4. Depending on the pricing, space and availability, we may choose to go to Euph. I still, however, would like you to reserve the classroom accordingly. In the event that something happens, and we decide to change our mind, I would like to have some venue OPTION SELECTS.

Also, there actually is another parking Garage near the UC BERKELEY campus (it's literally a block in front of it next to Blodie's Pizza)... the walk to Eudemonia is somewhat further, but note that people using cars have a lot of options (hell, people can park at a BART station and then take BART to Berkeley; the thing runs into like midnight).

That said, I sure hope the Eudemonia venue works out for you guys; the place normally closes at like 1AM on Saturdays, so y'all won't be rushing around to get things done.

So, yes, good luck!

I'm rooting for all of you.

(my stake in it is that if you guys pull it off, it's gonna help maybe solidify our position as a go-to place in the Bay Area for fighting game action... and I'm actually surprised that it isn't considering how incredibly accessible the place it; there's so many ways to get down to Eudemonia that it's ridiculous)

The reason why I've been doing research in SJSU is because I've heard from multiple people that Eudemonia Berkeley on a Saturday is hell to pay for parking and arrangements (And I've been to UC Berkeley enough to experience said parking concerns), and SJSU has been a pretty solid setup for Melty and GG in the past. Either way I can cancel SJSU if I have at least 48 hours notice beforehand, just decisions need to hitconfirm into special arrangements.

Truth be told, that might be the case, but I'd assume they weren't talking about the parking garages (but on the other hand: I don't know how full those garages get during Saturdays); someone will likely have to try and investigating said garages (prices, space, when the places close), but I don't ever remember having a hard time finding parking space in the garages whenever I was down there.

(ACTUALLY, there's 3 garages in Berkeley; 2 are near the campus and I just happened to remember it right now... then there's ZELLERBACH hall's parking garage, actually)

But, like I said: needs moar investigation.

That said, yes... there's only like several spaces in front of Eudemonia, ie. no parking... but if people were willing to shell out for a garage to begin with, in front of the shop isn't the place to park at all.

Gonna have to say, trying to finish up a tournament at 5 PM is very unrealistic, especially if we're hoping for a lot of people to come. I don't really know what else we have to work with, but SJSU sounds like a bad idea.

Options might open beyond 5PM if the arrangement is during the normal school schedule (Also known as After August 25th). I'll keep things updated.

I have to set the ground idea that if there was a BBQ at my house, there would be absolutely no alcohol or drugs, everyone would be best behavior and treat my parents and house with respect, etc, etc. Past even that, I'd have to get confirmation.

And Realistically, there wouldn't be many places for setting up games. I can only really imagine one or two. It would be primarily just hanging around.

Also, I would really lobby hard for reserving two days, instead of BBQ then tourney. If we want this to be a minor, with many different games represented, and the place closes at 5, we would need two days IMO

I think even with 2 days where it closes early, odds are we'd be cutting it insanely close. I personally think we'd be better off trekking to Berkeley where Eudomania is open till 1am. We can still do 2 days of stuff but we can space it out much more efficiently. If the owners of Eudomania were cool with it, it MIGHT be possible to do an outdoor BBQ if the premises allow for it. But honestly SJSU sounds like it would be real big rushdown in terms of getting everything done.

Or we could just stop by for some good unorthodox Korean BBQ in Berkeley.

And, no, it is not all you can eat.

I'm talking REAL BBQ dammit!! the Redneck stuff!! Fuck the lettuce and that extra side crap we got in LA, we get burgers and steaks and fish and whatever else and we grill it and we will use condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayo and all that good shit! GOT IT?!

So I finally got that job install, but I'm working weekend nights. I asked for August 7 off in advance for the minor but now it sounds like that isn't happening (or at least corfirmed).

What's going on? Berkeley?

Posted

Well its been a while but I think I can come down from Oregon again for some melty and bring one or two of the local GG/MB players with me, as long as the tournament is the weekend of the 24th or later.

I gotta agree with most of the other guys here, 5 PM sounds like major anti-hype. If delaying the tourney a week or two would let us roll till a normal time of like 8 or 9 PM that would probably be worth it, imo at least.

We can't even get everyone in the same place for the tournament start usually, and that's for 2 games...:(

Don't worry. This time, we're going to be a stickler about time. I'm going to make sure Qwerty Alex will be aware of that. If you don't show up to your appointed match, you'll be sent to losers. If you fail to show up for your match for losers, then you are DQ. :kitty:

We're going to be setting up Pre-Reg and on site registration. If you prereg, then you'll pay a considerably less venue fee. On site registration will probably be double. :kitty:

Of course, I wasn't implying we wouldn't be taking action. I just hope the scene follows through and doesn't get themselves apathetically DQ'd! *LOOKS MEANINGLY AT QWERTY "OPTION SELECT" ALEX*

Wow, so it seems that a thread that originally had nothing to do with BB now has something going on. I COULD read through 75 pages and figure out what I missed, but I'm lazy. What's going on? Venue? When/where?

Alrighty guys. It looks like we'll be heading out towards SJSU. I would suggest having the tournament on the first weekend of September and/or the last weekend of August. The only reason why is because we have to operate our tournament towards the SU hours. If we go an hour over closing time, we will be charged an extra fee. If I recall correctly, the Student Union closes at 5pm. This means that we need to get our tournaments finished no later than 4pm.

The flipside to this is that we can span this event to a 2-day event; Friday - Saturday.

Exactly how much extra are we talking about?
