I any of you know or remember who was used in that tourney, lemme know and I will post them! Besides that thank you everyone for coming. I feel the tourney was a big success and I'm glad everyone had a good time! I should have the date for the March tourney within the next 2 or 3 weeks! Also, being that this was the first tourney that I've hosted, I would really appreciate feedback as to what you liked and didn't like or if there was anything you would like to see happen differently, so I can keep it in mind for future events! Thanks again everyone!
Hellmonkey Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Tourney was great, thanks chris for making it possible! Will try to be at the next one.
Sir Phobos Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 GGs to everyone I played! To all who helped run this tourney, thanks for keeping the SoCal GG scene alive just a little bit longer.
Hellfromabove Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Let's hope the next tourney has far more attendees. Thanks for hosting Chris. -Tha Hindu
TGS Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Good shit at the tourney. Gives me an incentive to actually start practicing Guilty Gear again.
Jo Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Yeaaaaah~ muchos gracias to RaYzYrbYrn, Spidey, XieXie, HFA (for streaming), Sadder (for commentating), Bang (commentating too?) and everyone else for making this run as smoothly as possible. I really hope this becomes a regular monthly thing as planned.
ZONG_one Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I didn't know that was you, TGS. Didn't we play some rounds?
Dr. Stormlocke Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Already posted in the other thread, but thanks to BChris, James, Tushar and everyone else involved in running and streaming the tournament! GGs to everyone I played. As I've said before, I'll never get tired of playing Robo.
ajinkris Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 GGs everyone, and thanks Black Chris for hosting! We should do some fun formats like regionals or teams if we get more attendees. We should also totally do SoCal vs. Hellmonkey. It'll be best of one, Hellmonkey vs. X, where X is the number of other contestants. Sounds about fair if he doesn't use Sol or Potemkin.

Hellfromabove Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Where are them videos at? I was all ready to upload them but it seems the new prog I used to capture with fucked up the quality beyond belief . I'll go ahead and ul them when I get over this stomach flu I contracted yesterday and you can try and make shit out if you can lol. -Tha Hindu
Rayzyrbyrn Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Thanks again ya'll! I really enjoyed running the event, it was lots of fun! Thanks James for showing me the ropes, I really appreciate it! Thanks Tushar for streaming! I dunno why I didn't start doing this shit sooner! We're prolly gonna throw Melty Blood in the mix starting next month to get people ready for Evo! Arlieth already told me the SF4 tourney lineup for next month, so it might be hard to incoporate that one! We'll see how things go, but thatnks again everyone for making the event a big success!
TGS Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Instead of SF4, add Tekken 6, imo. And ditto on MBAA. Oh, and let's do an interesting GG tourney called "reverse main" in addition to the usual regular format for shits and giggles. Basically you have to use your opponent's main character (usually a character they've been using in the majority of past tourneys) instead of your own when you play against them. For example, first round is me vs. TheBiter, where TheBiter has to use I-No and I have to use Order Sol. Winner moves on to 2nd round, where, let's say, Stormlocke is waiting. Stormlocke has to use the winner's character while the winner has to use Robo Ky. Repeat till we have a winner. What do you think?
Spirit Juice Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I say "button swap" tournament is more hype. Every match your opponent sets your contrls (and you do it for your opponent too). Opponents aren't allowed to see what buttons are changed to what so that they have to figure them out on the fly. Arcade lay out only, of course. For example: [K][H] [P][X][D] becomes [D][P] [K][X][H]
MiraclePizza Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Oh, and let's do an interesting GG tourney called "reverse main" in addition to the usual regular format for shits and giggles. I changed my main to Bridget bring it on.

First, I think there's very little cross-over between the two communities. I don't ever see BB players at the Vid94/Super arcade Tekken ranbats, and I don't ever see Tekken players at AI playing BB. Second, Tekken players don't usually go to tournies unless they are majors or a long established ranbat (like the fore-mentioned Super/Vid94 series). I remember one of the best Steve players in socal (Tim from FFA) tried to revive Tekken ranbats at FFA after console came out...first tourney had like 10 ppl, second tourney had none lol. And this was with no venue fee.

Also, the reason why you don't see BB players at Super Arcade is because their machine is trash, and it's also an outdated version (lol CT). And obviously AI doesn't have a Tekken machine. As for Tekken tourneys, we all gotta start somewhere, and with Evo coming up along with a disturbing lack of console Tekken tourneys in a centralized area (FFA is just too damn far from everyone), I'm confident people will turn out for this one since it's held relatively close to Super/Vid94, and is on consoles so pad warriors can get their game on.
Rayzyrbyrn Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 I'm not a big Tekken fan anyways! I'd rather not host a game that I know nothing about and don't really enjoy enough to care to learn anything about!

It was just a suggestion for which game to replace SF4 since I know it can bring in numbers to help you break even on how much it costs to rent out that room, especially when other tourneys already have a stranglehold on the Socal SF4 scene...
ajinkris Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJiPVba9jKo = Wow Jeff posts on here? Welcome to the internet age grandpa!

True that you might not know much about the game but bringing in a scene that has relatively no tourneys will be huge. I believe you're just trying to build the tourney numbers for now. I think throwing one or two test T6 tourneys might help out in the long run. Word gets out about them and people will enjoy. Wow Jeff posts on here? Welcome to the internet age grandpa! Don't scare him, I don't think his old heart can take it. -Tha Hindu
