What exactly do you define as smart play, though? Is it very spacing specific? Is being away of frame data so that you dont get too greedy with offense/defense really key? Do moves just have really balanced risk reward? Does something about it affect the centrality of/rewards for reading your opponent? Is smart play cautious play?

It's combinations of all of this. Do you know that feeling in some of the recent fighting games where you come out thinking that you got punished for doing something smart and your opponent doing something dumb? I didn't feel it at all when I did an extended play session of the game.

I do agree with this.

Even though im not a fan of VF, the series has always been, to me, the fighting game with the most leveled playing field all around. It's one of the most technical games out there and it rewards you immensely for learning the game itself rather than your opponent.

It's sheer boredom on the other hand is a direct result of this, the more balanced a game is, system mechanic wise and character wise, the less fun it is to watch or play.

I'm just the opposite. I usually get sick of dealing with all the stupid stuff in other fighters and don't even enjoy watching them after a while. When I first started getting into VF about 4-5 years ago, it did seem a little boring to watch and play at first. But as I continued to play and learn the game, everything became more exciting to me. Now I consider VF to be the most intense, thrilling game ever and I love watching top players like Homestay and Chibita.

Well that's not true at all. Knowledge doesn't equate interesting.

I know 3S, it's my fav SF title, but on the average it's not fun to watch in any way.

I know SFxT, the game is ass, nor is it fun to watch.

Wow, these really are stupid easy. There losers who buy cheap games with easy achievements though, so maybe this will help sales just a tiny bit? I hope it does...I wish this game was out right now.

Final Showdown is now on the PSN (do a search) BUT there's something Sega didn't tell us. Also available is Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown - COMPLETE Edition- which includes ALL the customization packs.

Normal ver is $15, Complete is $30! Compare that to $5 (x19) for individual packs and $15 (x2) for the 2 big packs and this is a HUGE savings!

but yeah it's actually a bad deal for PS+ members if you want the items, cause that means you have to spend $30 to get them all...and well you could've just bought the complete edition and be able to keep the game even if you aren't a premium member :s

Sorry, commentators have been removed from the console versions. A shame, because they were hilariously awesome.

Anyway, just tried out Jean and Taka. Jean feels awkward because a lot of his moves have delay strings by holding down buttons at certain points. Definitely an expert character. Taka on the other hand is as silly as he was in VF3. His HCF throw does a fuckton of damage and his Hundred Hand Slap strings seem pretty strong.

Finally found a main, and it's someone I never expected to play from the start - Aoi. Not only is her style well-rounded, she's total waifu material. Subbing Brad and Lau until I get back into using Wolf, my old main since VF2.

I wish I had more free time. Game's amazing but I'm getting my ass kicked a lot.

My seimitsu is helping me get used to this, though. I wish more games had such a detailed tutorial to re-learn everything.

Still not sure if I should sub someone. How's Goh or Wolf in this game?

Also stay away from mah Aoi faggots )< she been mai waifu since VF3

Goh is pretty damn strong in this game. IIRC he used to have a lot of complex throw inputs and stances, but not anymore. He's a lot like Aoi but with more of a focus on getting knockdowns and stunning the opponent.

Wolf...is Wolf. He can kill you in two throws.

How is Sarah in this game, for those of you who know?

Pretty amazing, the more I play the more I learn, she's just simply the mixup queen, I just have to get better at using her vast amount of tools. Today I spent time working on a versatile combo that does great damage and pretty much guarantees a ring out at midscreen on all applicable stages. Also I looked at the frame data for alot of the moves I used regularly and found some interesting + on blocks that give me new ideas for how to approach a match (one will even give you +7 at starting range). Also I finally found out what is so great about her final special stance, giving me a good idea of what I want to go for, for all 3!

And knowing that all of this will transfer over when I get DoA5 in Sept makes it that much more rewarding.
