Practice makes perfect. Seriously, just do your time and take your falls. I don't remember the last time someone learned to ride a bike by not riding a bike.

Heh, I played with a stick for the first time a few days ago (only been playing BB for a month and not much else in terms of fighters before). Wasn't too bad of a transition for me ^^;; Though, when I went back to my 360 analog stick, I seemed to have actually lost some of my accuracy :/

Waiting for Lizard Lick to get their JFLs back in stock so I can build my own stick :D

Hi! This question might be posted before but I was wondering is there any trick to do dash and air dash? I just got a stick yesterday and I can't seems to move very well. Thanks in advance.

Just practice. Practice on getting your motions out with just what you need. two forward motions. An up and forward motion.

Fail!

9>6 is Instant air dash.

dont jump then double tap forward. you will drop all your combos and your inputs will suck

no1 told me this so i was a very sad panda when i 1st started.

maybe he doesn't want to do an IAD . maybe he wants to do a delayed air dash. :3 More options but yes 9, 6 for IAD

So i should go 9 to 6 really fast? cause when I try to do it all, my char just up...

*edit* nvm I got it, I was stupid and think that 8 was 9 lol. Thanks for the help! :yaaay:

Remember Rachel's advice: make sure you hit neutral inbetween 9 and 6, so it's really 9>5>6.

If you're still interested in using a dash or air dash just normally (not IAD), try to figure out how far you need to actually push the stick to engage it (as in, how far it actually needs to move before your character starts moving in that direction), and then double tap while only going that far (rather than hitting the gate/when your stick is forced to stop and can't go any further).

Still, you should be able to just hit the gate and still dash properly... you might've just not been doing it fast enough.

I've read through a few of the posts but haven't seen this problem:

I'm in training mode, practicing Tao's distortions and I can't seem to get a consistent 214214C with one grip, but can with another. However, when I display the inputs, I'm doing the exact same motion with both grips :( Any idea what's going on?

You might be hitting C a bit too late. If you can also get the movement consistently with one grip, it will help immensely.

It doesn't appear to be from me entering it too slowly :/ I have less trouble with 236236D going at a slower pace :\

Also, I played around with not riding the gate (as much) and that seems to work, but once again, with the same commands as if I did ride it.

And if it helps, I sometimes end up doing Slashy Slashy(22C), even though 214214C shows on the screen :/ Every other time, it's a Cat Litter Special (236C)

I was alright after a few months. Naturally, varies depending on how much time you spend on it, lol

And keep in mind it's not like body building where it just improves after you do enough reps.

Whenever it doesn't work, try to figure out why. You are the variable factor, not the game (maybe the stick, but if it's new it shouldn't be near breaking down at all yet).

Cant quite do DPs with an Octo gate on the left side consistently, can anyone help me out here, how should I go about practicing this? Should I change my holding technique?

Posted

After about a month I'm probably at the same level I was when I used the pad. I can't go back to the pad now.

The only thing I can't do very well are DPs but after a few days of Street Fighter I'm starting to get it.

I wish I could hurry up with modding my SE. I can't find the right paint. I used Valspar and ended up sanding it all off because it looked awful.

I read and posted in it. Never got any response.

I looked all over for Krylon or Duplicolor but no one carries it. Valspar was the only thing for plastic I could find.

Anyone have some suggestions on adjusting your playstyle when switching your button layout? For example I used to play with:

A B

D C

With my hrap3 (seimitsu-octogate with seimitsu buttons), I am attempting to switch to:

A B C

D X X

I guess the biggest issue I have to work on is avoiding to hit the 1st X like i am used to, and i will be pretty much free on throws for a while, but I am asking more along the lines of hit confirm and combos.

I am starting to get the hang of it, but has anyone else done through this torture and can provide some sage advice?

All you can do is practice practice practice. Let your hand develop the muscle memory for it and you'll be fine

Like with most things its just breaking a habit. I've had to break all my bad habits SFIV gave me with shortcuts(Ex I would always do 63216 for my half circles) just slow yourself down, practice in training mode. focus on getting whatever you are wanting to get rid of in a match out. And it will slowly disappear. It won't happen over night.

Took me a whole-hearted eight months to get used to stick. But once you do that, you can never go back. I lost over $200 in quarters playing in the arcades and splurged over $1k on sticks. You don't have to go to those length, but it'll drastically improve your play.

Im thinking of just telling my friends to throw me 24/7 until I can tech it well :v:

Intresting, I'll have to play around with that, I'm working on MU's Dash 2b combos after her j2c.

But my main question here is how to properly hold my stick, I change between Wineglass, semi wine glass and occasionally monkey paw, what I want to know are the specifics for the movements for the different handle types, when I use the wine glass, I switch between fingers for certain imputs, I feel a lot more comfortable before, but I still feel theres a better way to hold it, or im not utilizing the right finders for the grip i use now.

Are there any good videos that focus on the stick itself? maybe something with a match and a video of the guy using the stick in the vid. Or a good description could do.
