TaoFTW Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I CAN HAZ CHEEZBURGER?! Not just one, but a HUNDRED?! :o! I come for your fight moneh Mr. Dabbit. >:3
CopperDabbit Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 Hey everyone, thanks for all of the support so far! I did want to clarify one point (before anyone asks...) and I'll edit the front post to reflect this as well. I do not have a special arrangement going on with any arcade, so don't go in to this thinking the games are going to be free. You still have to pay for each game, which means out of 2/3, if you win your net profit (at SVGL) will be $3.50.
OrionXElite Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Wouldn't it only be a net gain of $3.50 if it actually took all 3 games for someone to beat you? I mean if someone went 2-0 against you, they would've only paid once which would make the net gain $4.25 right? If I'm wrong, just fix it, I'm still sick so odds are I may be dumb right now...
CopperDabbit Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 Hmm... point james. Your math is accurate.
CakeWasBannedd Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 DON'T PUT DOWN MATH >:C I think the idea is just to play good people like Dabbit and to meet other people who would be traveling to meet/play Dabbit. Of course if someone thinks they're amazing enough to win all of his money, that's another thing entirely. :D
OrionXElite Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Eh I don't care about the money, I was just correcting it for the point of being accurate. I'd be perfectly fine just playing Dabbit for shits and giggles as practice.
wuku Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Are you able to rent the arcade machine for few hours (2-3 hrs)? If so, you may provide incentive on different ways. 1. You vs all other people in the arcade while you rent the machine. While you keep playing no matter you lose or win, your opposite side may have different players on every matches. Somebody may record results of each match. At the end, you and players may decide who the winner is depending on the criteria you made and they agreed. Possible example is, if you have 50 wins first, you win. Otherwise, you lose. Losers pay the rental fees. This way was used by several decent players in Korean GG #reload scene where I was involved. My concern about this way is that the rental fee can be really expensive (or may not be available) unlike my estimate of the rent fee is about $ 40 - 70 / hr. Also ppl may not want to fight solely against you for several hours, but from my experience from #Reload scene, people didn't mind fighting one person for a while as long as he had announced in advance and people regarded this as a type of competition event that they could enjoy. 2. You may pick up a certain player you want to fight, and ask continuous match. You may have a certain rule as well, like someone who wins 10 games first will be the winner. In this case, you may provide $ 30 ~ $ 40 (whatever) to the winner if you lose (and you may get nothing even if you win). This was the way widely used to make ranking for the players in the #reload scene. In this way, you don’t need to rent the machine, but may ask players to borrow 20 – 40 minutes to do this continuous match. Usually people in SparkCoast are cool so they already get enough incentive to play the game competitively. If there is a chance you can come by here, you’ll see. You may not even need to provide any extra stuff to enhance motivation. HFA is the one who can prove this.
CopperDabbit Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 I like your ideas Wuku, the problem that I see is that I'm already cutting into my savings pretty heavily just for the initial CDC, EVO and the SBO qualifier. Add on renting the machine, and we're talking some serious cash which I just don't have. However, I may be able to work something out with Goryus, and borrow his cab, which would probably be the best idea all around. I just have no idea how that would work in the first place. I'm still mulling things over, and when I come to a concrete decision, I'll make a formal announcement (and posters!).

I'm still mulling things over, and when I come to a concrete decision, I'll make a formal announcement (and posters!). You could probably talk to the manager at SVGL and ask about how much that would run you. Or you could always plan it on a wednesday and we could use one or 2 people's AM cards to fund the cab price so then people won't leave just on the prospect that they ran out of credits. That would be the most cost efficient way for everyone to go and enjoy the competition and not fret over the money. Thats my 2 cents. PS: I'm up for practice pretty much anytime you want Dabbit, just let me know.
Dacidbro Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Certainly free-er is better, especially when you're already handing out 5's willy nilly; Hope that could all work with Goryus, but obviously it's inherently more intricate and complicated than "show up at SVGL X day, play play play" Whatever the turn out is, this is a great idea
CakeWasBannedd Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I might just show up to this, was planning on heading to Nor/Socal at some point anyways, this is just a way to play lots of different people. Good idea all around, Dabbit.
render Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 If you talked to Scott from AI and made it into a beat-Dabbit-and-win-money event (like a tournament, but mostly just a really long string of money matches), then I bet he'd be willing to let you "rent" the cab. You could probably just give them $30 or $40 (which is more than they might make off the BB cab on a given Saturday or Sunday anyway - and is guaranteed), and they'd put the machine on freeplay event mode, and you can just sit on the cab all day letting people challenge you. If they win 5 times, they get $5. Bam. I'd go. (But I'm already going to whatever you decide to do anyway.)
CopperDabbit Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 Wow guys, I'm really surprised at the positive responses I've been getting to this. I guess all I need to do is set an actual date for this... I'll check my calendar and see what works for me. What day(s) would be best for everyone? Saturday/Sunday are obviously the easiest choices. How does everyone vote? Also, I'd like to do two things in addition to this; 1) I'd like to update the first page with the names of people who have accepted the CDC. And 2) When this event actually happens, I'd like to keep a running record of who I played, how many times, win/lose record, etc. Are both of those cool with everyone?
render Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Fine by me. I think it'd be awesome to make it an event and record a bunch of the matches. Maybe upload the ones that are the most hype.
OrionXElite Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Well I think biggest turnout for the SVGL crowd would easily be Wednesday but we should talk to Rin and see if when he can come down to record everything. Sign me up, I don't care who sees my W/L record, I'm using Tager, people can already its gonna be 50-3 with me being the 3...
CakeWasBannedd Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I'm not exactly confirmed, but I'll try to make this if it's in LA at some point. Very probably can make it.
Nakkiel Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Sounds like a neat idea. If you worked out something for up here in WA I'd be down to play some.
Dacidbro Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 One thing I intended to ask about; In the hypothetical scenario that you do in fact "get served", and someone takes your 5 dollars, do they then continue occupying the machine as usual (logical to get money's worth/natural procession, takes away from challenge time and other people's chances for money), or do you stay instead, and people eat the difference (they lose their credit, but still get 4 dollars, time wasted from killing the now player-less doll as you get back on the machine, your money wasted as well for having to rebuy credits This is probably the biggest technical problem, from an observers point.
Ginseng Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I have a surprise for you during this week's arcademania. That and I'll be ready with more unblockable setups.
CakeWasBannedd Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Yeah, preferably far in advance, since LA is probably where I'm going to be flying to and I wouldn't want to miss this.
