Mightfo Posted November 26, 2010 Author Posted November 26, 2010 umineko stuff I hear the visual novel > the anime, and is recommended to be watched before the animo. also holy shit i am never playing ssf4 ranked online again. i do a juri vs makoto match. that was nice. i respect that makoto. we both knew how to block, he was pretty sweet, nice match. then i fought 3 kens in a row. one of them mashed dp constantly. then i fought an akuma. i trashed him. i had 60% health, he was almost dead. then he lands random raging demon, i die. next round, same hp situation. i suspect he wants ultra again. i jump around some. i divekick during the superflash. the superflash eats my input, i don't divekick, i lose. i'm not gonna lie, i ragequit that. FAIR DMG, GOOD MECHANIC TOO never playing ranked matches online on SF again. putting up with boring ragnas is nowhere near as bad as that. the netcode seemed a lot better than PC vanilla SF4, tho. and juri is still wonderful.
Cirno Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 umineko anime is a horrible, horrible representation of the visual (sound) novel. if you have the time, please don't watch the anime, and please play the visual novel. ps lol ranked ssf4

You're supposed to mash during super flashes yo. lrn2SF4 n00b. Too bad you're on Xbox otherwise I'd play you some. Maybe sometime we could just throw down at a meetup.

I'm guessing the VN actually explains some of the stuff left hanging in the anime too? (Battler's sin or w/e) If anything, the anime gave me a quick-trip through the characters so I'm content with that. Also, I'm looking at some vids of 3rd Strike from a-cho. Is it any good? Edited November 26, 2010 by RaveSage
RaveSage Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Well, it sort of ends on a cliff hanger and in an episode before that Beato keeps pestering Battler to remember something he did 6 years ago that's relevant to the plot. It seems like they were going to do a season 2 but it just never happened. Someone said the dvd didn't sell even 1000 copies or something so that could be why.
jetblaksuit Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Will do. I'm guessing the VN actually explains some of the stuff left hanging in the anime too? Are you asking if 3rd Strike is any good? Please tell me you're trolling me.
RaveSage Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Are you asking if 3rd Strike is any good? Please tell me you're trolling me. Uh... uh... uhh... :scared: Well, it sure looks for fun than SSF4. I just want to know if it's worth learning. Also, I almost never troll and when/if I do, you'll never notice it.

Mightfo Posted November 27, 2010 Author Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) Uh... uh... uhh... :scared: Well, it sure looks for fun than SSF4. I just want to know if it's worth learning. Also, I almost never troll and when/if I do, you'll never notice it. part of whether it's "worth learning" depends on who else plays it in the area and if you're not satisfied with other games you could work on for some reason my take: sf3 is pretty sweet. it definitely has some flaws, though. tier lists are pretty serious in it. I'm sort of iffy about parries as a concept because it potentially turns something that is normally safe or + frames on block into assrape on existence, but obviously that requires timing and knowing something is coming. Plus, red parries are badass. I just wish parrying required an input and had a whiff animation. Parrying really shits on certain characters, like Remy. Regardless of the flaws and potential flaws, IMO it's the most hype SF. I mean, shit yes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4wAaQug4HQ&feature=related I fucking love the meter system in that game. Choosing different supers gives you different maximum amounts of meter. Plus, the variety of supers is just sort of awesome. I really wish SSF4 had 3s's meter system...like if they took ultras, made them supers, made the original supers as cool, and had you choose between the three. That+upped heat gain+variable meters like SF3 would be pretty great. Though, SF4 ultras are still largely pretty boring compared to a lot in SF3. Example: All of Oro's supers, which are fucking fantastic. it also has highjump, unlike other sfs. tl;dr 3s is flawed but still pretty sweet and more hype than other SFs also!! taunts in that game give you buffs, like more damage on your next combo, or more defense, or stun recovery. i love that. only other fighter which does some sort of taunt buff that I can think of is the Umineko one which is coming out. taunts regen some HP in that. also IMO SF3's characters > all other sf games' characters but if you want an old capcom fighter, play vampire savior :3 Edited November 27, 2010 by Mightfo
Ronin Jinobi Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) oh yeah a good mindset to go on with parries in sf3( and jam's parry in gg which also has no whiff animation) is just to think of them as IB-ing forward. real talk though I don't use parries unless i'm about to die from chip, the opponent is throwing out something obvious(that i can't punish right away), or i just wanna look cool. oh also to add on to mightfo's blurb about taunts in sf3, some taunts actually have priority over certain moves! :O i once did Ibuki's jumping cross over taunt to avoid death (that and it's hella cute, she smiles and waves at the camera :3 ) but if you want an old capcom fighter, play vampire savior :3 ^this x(a million) Edited November 27, 2010 by Ronin Jinobi
jetblaksuit Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Uh... uh... uhh... :scared: Well, it sure looks for fun than SSF4. I just want to know if it's worth learning. Its worth learning. For a number of reasons. 3rd Strike is mostly about footsies. Which is a huge component of all good fighting games IMO. I honestly can't choose whether I like SSF4 more or not though. The characters in SSF4 are much better balanced, the Ultra system is fun and makes for an entertaining stream game, the focus attack system as good and bad parts but, armor cancelling is teh sex yo. As far as tiers go in 3rd Strike, if you put in the time you can learn to defeat the holy trinity of that game, Yun, Chun-Li and Ken, with any character. The parry system is amazing in my opinion. Its really captures what Street Fighter is all about.Yomi. SF is all about training your opponent to do one thing and then punishing him for doing it. Knowing what your opponent wants to do and countering it. Parrying doesn't need a whiff animation IMO because if you fuck it up, you eat the attack. The only thing even marginally scrubby about parrying is SGGK, which is an option select that lets you kara-throw/throw or down parry, counter attack and link super. But its not easy to pull off and still requires skill to do so its not that bad. I both love and hate the meter system in SF3 but I've already gone into TL;DR territory. If you want a run down on 3rd Strike message me on AIM or something I can clue you in a ton. EDIT: Vampire Savior is Capcom's Guilty Gear.
Mightfo Posted November 27, 2010 Author Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) Are johnny and zreb the only people coming? Looks like I'll whip out Banjo 360. the Ultra system is fun Parrying doesn't need a whiff animation IMO because if you fuck it up, you eat the attack. ..unless there was no attack, in which case you threw out a random guess at virtually no cost if you haku or gouken or whatever parry and nothing comes, they see that you were fishing for nothing and they fuck you. pressing forward does not do the same thing. The only thing even marginally scrubby about parrying is SGGK, which is an option select that lets you kara-throw/throw or down parry, counter attack and link super. But its not easy to pull off and still requires skill to do so its not that bad. yeah, the option selects in it don't seem that big of a deal anyway, despite my reservations about recoveryless parries, sf3 is fun and that probably really doesn't matter in mid-level play anyway. it's not garou, lollll Edited November 27, 2010 by Mightfo
