RaveSage Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Far as I'm aware This is the only pre-made PS2 style stick worth getting. You could get an MC Cuthulu and not even need converters with a bit of work. My plans to build a new stick are being thwarted by evil yet again. Gonna be a while till I can get the parts I need unless someone wants to help me out. (I ship em to your place and give them to me.) I'll even give some of my swana buttons, ball/battops ect. as a reward. btw, this saturday is probably a no-go for me too. Trying to slip out for A-Fest for most of that day.
tomato of doom Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Zreb, if you could bring your PS3 that would be awesome. Do you play pad or stick? And also RaveSage, I'll be at Afest for pretty much the whole weekend (other than when I go to Mightfo's for a bit) :3 If there's a BBCS setup (likely will be) we should play each other!

Mightfo Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 Far as I'm aware This is the only pre-made PS2 style stick worth getting. Oooh, only $50.. I've also been hesitant to get a stick since..well, not sure if the one I'd buy would be one I like. IIRC I liked the stick on Brandi's(Or was it bamf's?) and felt I could adjust to it fairly easily but also benefit. But I don't really like the stick on Ronin's, felt too..loose? I dunno. Any comments on that? this. modding/building a stick with the mc cthulu is more effiicient than using a converter. No lags on inputs too :O urghhh i'm terrible with that sort of thing though. really want to avoid that, especially if it requires soldering. also, my ps2->360 converter is lagless, and I just found a pelican converter I could buy for $25.
zreb Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Zreb, if you could bring your PS3 that would be awesome. Do you play pad or stick? I use pad, but I feel kind of hindered by it at times For now I'm just sticking with what I'm able to do since I'm pretty green on BB/fighters in general at the moment, but I'd like to switch to stick sometime... I will go ahead and bring mine, so no worries! Lugging yours around AFest would probably be problematic anyhow :s

Ronin Jinobi Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 if it's like most sticks i've encountered then yeah probably. I'd have to take a look inside of it to give you a definite answer though.

And no joke, I didn't realize how hindered I really was until I got accustomed to playing on stick. It may be frustrating at first but soooo much better than pad once you get used to it. I'll bring both my sticks if you wanna try 'em out :3 (one is modded with sanwas, other has stock Hori parts)

"Loose" stick eh? I would guess it's Swana brand. I prefer the loose feel but if it's not for you, probably try Semitsu or IL sticks if you get one built. That or add springs. To get a PS2 connection, yeah, you'd need to solder and get some extra parts. If just PC/PS3 all you need are some crimping materials and a screwdriver. I'd say I could get one set up for you but I never got a chance to get the one I had finished up. Don't like possibly messing things up. D: Now a 360 stick, I can actually do and I managed to get that all set up before. (the stick I used at your place) I could try setting that up if you're interested.

Only reason I desire a PS2 stick is so that I can easily get good converters for PS3, and so it works with my ps2 -> 360 converter. Don't actually have my PS2 with me :P

Might have a bit of a problem with that, as it's the wireless Hori that came with the Tekken bundle :< So I don't think it'd work unless the converter can support a wireless USB dongle lol. Feel-wise though, it's not too bad. It's a 4-way gate as compared to the Sanwa, which I left as the default 8-way. It's pretty tight and easy to feel which direction you're hitting. Served me pretty well as a practice stick. (the buttons kinda suck though, they feel too... hollow, I guess? Not clicky enough D:) I now prefer the looseness of the Sanwa stick though.

I think I had a similar stick to that one. The problem are the button springs I think. I felt like I had to smash the buttons on mine to make sure I was getting the inputs read. Took it apart though so I have the PCB at least.

Ahh, that's right, the Hori I was looking at is wireless. Not sure if my converter will support wireless or not, let alone without lag. I guess we will find out this weekend.

This bites me int he ass a lot on lambda, I'm significantly worse at her reversal super's input when facing left than right which has cost me several matches :\ it loves to give me spike chaser instead which is agh!!! Being able to fiddle with your sticks would be great! I haven't done much research on the matter at all so a little hands on would be fantastic. soldering soldering soldering @mig: as long as I know what to do, i can easily handle soldering, so don't write off any options or anything just based on that alone.

Mightfo Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 Texted Oso and Boombox. Cheebz, I know ronin can't, but are you up for saturday? Anyone else? So far, it looks like just me/brandi/zreb.
zreb Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 can't be having this hakufest -> no hakus business
Mightfo Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 Got my second converter for ps2/3 -> 360. Woo. You'll probably be playing on your Hori if that works with the converter, Brandi. Worst case though is us using zreb's ps3 and me playing either ps3 pad or a stick..I'll probably go for stick so I don't accidentally jump so fucking much :1

Mightfo Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 Ill be showing up Nice. So we'll have Me, Zreb, Tomato, James, James's brother, and you from 3 to 7ish.
Mr Oso Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 No BoomBox? Was looking foward to the pro Hazama/Makoto
Mightfo Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 No BoomBox? Was looking foward to the pro Hazama/Makoto yeah, no boombox, sadly.
Mightfo Posted September 5, 2010 Author Posted September 5, 2010 Meetup was fairly fun, but messy as fuck. A bit of a lesson for next time, I guess. Long story short: Had a ps3, but the ps3 guy didn't have a copy of blazblue cs. Then we had a ps2 for guilty gear..but the guilty gear owner had no ps2 controllers. he's still a cooldude though So we had 6 people on one setup. Regardless, it was fun. Oso is a good Carl and I want to learn that matchup through him, and we had an hour of unlimited shenanigans. Next time will run much smoother since we have learned how to not fuck up a meetup. Looking forward to a 360 setup with me, oso, and zreb. Next meetup should be next saturday, probably. Liked the feel of the hori stick Brandi had. Didn't work with the converter though. Guess it's just ps2 horis that work with it. Might play on a ps3 setup with it next time brandi is here..Brandi, do you have any idea if http://www.amazon.com/PS2-PS3-PC-Universal-Fighting-Joystick/dp/B0015PHMFU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1283307489&sr=8-2 feels similar? also rofl i just can't play mu because..i fucking don't know what to at neutral situation. just...fairly open. do i poke? play defensive and anti air shit? set up steins assuming the player won't react fast enough to that? really need to solidify combos as well. I have some fancy shit off like 6c CH down, but I havent burned the setups off stuff like 3c into my brain yet. More importantly, just need to play her and get used to "ok, wanna use 5c here" "ok, now for steins" etc. Not like bang..not constantly looking for a way in. Not like lamda, not just zoning. Sorry you had to use a pad instead of stick, Tomato.
