Lies and slander good sir. :y

Seriously, I predict Plat will be a very strong character. Once people learn to deal with whatever item they get instead of tossing them for ones they want it'll be good.

Maybe, but everything I've seen has made me go... well, I think maybe she could do something... Oh no never mind. That said, Shadow gives me faith.

On another note, it's a strange day when you Hazama looks super fun to play, and I actually saw what looked to be a cool Daifunka combo, and it didn't work. What is wrong with the world.

Edit: Also Noel, I love you for doing something other than just shooting the ground.

Frigid, I assume you won't host either day this weekend?

If not, like I said, I'm hosting friday and saturday, 2:30-8:30. Please post if you haven't already regarding if you can attend either.

BE THERE AND BE HYPE.

Ronin, Jet, Cheebz, I'm going to play Chipp instead of Venom. Back to the first character I really played in a fighting game. :v: I just hated venom's normals. Chipp's normals are comfy, and having his rekka and teleport makes me feel right at home.

..question, though. Why can't many(all?) of his normals special cancel into his projectile when they special cancel into other stuff? The only other time I can remember a character having moves that are special cancellable but have an exception for something is tager with certain moves and 360, so that he doesn't just have this huge pointless purple throw window.

Also, I found something strange..so I did a combo, c.s 5.s(far) 2s 5h 236s 236s RC dash c.s 5.s 2s 5h 236s 236s. No idea if it's optimal or anything, but it's certainly flashy and decent and I noticed something strange about it: I training-recorded myself doing the combo and then had the game play the combo back..and often, the last 236s 236s wouldn't connect, especially if I was closer to the corner! So strange...:psyduck: Pushback..variation....???

Also, it seems you didn't see my semi-consistent blocking of Suppa's Litchi mix-up at your place. :y

By "play" I mostly mean I know crap. What's an overhead/low, how to do combos/hit-confirming ect. Sure I can read about it, but I can't learn anything through my own experiences aside from guessing what's going to happen on a match on youtube.

The blocking thing made me think..I want blocking practice. I could tell someone like supaa to prepare a bunch of blockstring ideas ahead of time. He comes to the meetup, after some matches, I sit there and block and let him do all his mixup.

1)Attacker gets to get some good blockstrings in muscle memory instead of going for the same old thing that sometimes lands and is all the person remembers when they get to attack.

2)Defender gets to become familiar with the ways that the enemy's blockstring can very, and improves their defensive reactions.

3)Attacker gets to learn how to hit confirm better.

4)Defender, more comfortable with blocking, becomes more aware and exploitive of options like counterassault, IBing, etc.

Anyone interested in doing some of this at meetups?

Ah, yeah, I definitely fit the "know crap" part about this game. :v:

plat must defeat my shoryuken to stand a chance.

plat must defeat shen long

dad stop!!!

1)it's day..5? now. Hazama took some time for people to get used to him at all, let alone figure out his combos well and have decent abare.

2)I totally disagree. Shadow shows she has great potential. Her corner damage is great, she carries to corner well, and she has a lot more legit tools for mixup etc than Tsubaki and Noel in CS1 did. Almost all of her items look great. The bombs look like they're great if used correctly to get in, cat missiles(especially with that vertical stagger) are fantastic for zoning/pressure/getting in, fan helps her comboability a ton, catstick is just insane speed and reach and mixup even if it doesnt lead into combos, and while I dunno how hammer on ground, the crossup it gives is godlike. It takes two fucking primers! AN AMBIGUOUS CROSSUP THAT TAKES TWO PRIMERS. That is a big deal in CS2. Lastly, bat gives her a sick reversal.

That little thing she can float on to do a quick j.a which will combo into ground stuff, or feint and go for a low, is fast and godlike by itself, and her dashing command grab is legit as fuck, definitely fast enough.

3)Tsubaki didn't have her mixup, strength in neutral situations, approach, flexibility, and tsubaki had to fucking sacrifice pressure to have damage and decent options. Noel is more of a complex specimen to compare to, but yeah.

Anyway, platina will be fine at the very least. Even if she ends up low tier(and it looks like everybody is stronger than CS1 tsubaki/noel, so "low tier" doesn't mean too much..), if Bang does as well, you and I can be low tier heroes and blow everyone the fuck up. Bet on it.

Also, interesting video for those somewhat familiar with Starcraft 2:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9mCj9jFMSU#t=9m40s Starcraft 2 footsies, basically. lasts like 6 minutes.

sometimes corner combos have to be changed slightly to work for some characters i.e. I have to neutral jump for baiken's j.PSD link to land on almost everyone in the corner meaning i have to make the gatling chain shorter. I'm not too sure on venom since i never felt right with using him/don't feel i'm qualified to answer in depth questions like that/nigga i don't play no homosex kid. but yeah some characters are weird like that, depends on which projectile you're talking about in the first part :psyduck: also look forward to playing another chipp for the first time in like a year, my buddy whose in japan now mained chipp, that guy had some crazy as fuck combos and setups :CH: and like he actually named his combos too "David's reverse alpha blade combo 2" shit was hella hype.

I wouldn't mind it, kinda sounds like light sparring before practice we did in kendo so i'm definitely down for some of that bsns.

Should have mentioned this a few days ago, haha... but now that I'm at home and not held back by my college's dumb internet restrictions, I can connect to player matches now! :3 Anyone with PSN want to play a few tonight? I'll be on for a while.

oh god!!!!! add me

Dreamhack was so good, I love me some Day[9]

As far as a good corner game... Rachel did have a 6k combo in the corner that wasn't hard to pull off and she was the worst character in the game >.> Just saying.

(also let me have my fun =( I honestly hope she is the best character in the game, but it's hard for me to accept I might actually play a good character for once)

ooh now that's a different story...i dunno if there's a certain optimal range for gamma blade to not work in the corner...hmm...i'll look into it after work.

it is don't worry XD, she likes micro manage alot, but she also liked playing pokemon platinum etc. etc. i dunno if she'd be able to learn dem fightan gamez though :O, awesome sauce, yeah playing anji last saturday kinda made me think "I should learn a bit more about him."

Update on recording matches! I got my hands on my friends Playstation Eye. I need to test it on my roommates PC and see what kind of footage I can get. Not sure when I'll be able to do that. I tried to get it working on a laptop at work using this and couldn't figure it out. :psyduck: If anyone has any ideas or has a laptop and wants to come over in the next few weeks and help me figure it out that'd be awesome. Once its sorted out we could potentially record matches and upload them to u2b or whatever.

Update on the Playstation Eye cam. I got it working but I might still need a capture card and all that jazz in order to actually save the video.

Edit: Did a test stream on ustream. Might be able to stream stuff to there and save it. I'm pretty much a complete n00b with this sort of thing so if anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate it. Also could possibly do some video editing on the PS3 itself since it has a video editor application

EDIT: I have a small digital camera. If I can get my hands on a bigger memory stick I could probably get fair quality footage of stuff.

Just an update on the stick. I finally got my cuthulu in today so I'll be working on that. If all goes well it should be done by friday~

she likes micro manage alot

make her play mu/carl or several reminiscient characters in gg ;p

what FG would you start her off with..?

I actually started with GG some...a friend of mine mentioned blazblue and i was like "I don't care about 2d fighters." I didn't really care about astrals which he showed me, but when I watched an actual match, I got excited and looked at a bunch of BB, GG, and MB footage and decided to check out #Reload. Played Chipp and Bridget. Had quite a bit of fun, but some stuff didn't feel as natural so I stuck with BB more when I played that. BB's tech roll system has always felt weird though..I feel like recoveries shouldn't be delayable if you have multiple directions, and should just be you hold the direction that matches the way you want to tech, no button mashing. No fake combos then either, rofl. I should figure out the best way to punish back rolls as bang(if any) without losing much..maybe I could just react and dash? Hm...

The way you tech in BB is probably my biggest issue with the game. Its the thing I have the hardest time wrapping my head around when I'm playing.

I have a pretty good grasp of when I should do what versus what, I just like..completely forget about it when I actually get knocked down and usually end up mashing back tech, which gets me hurt by mu/haku/tager/lamda/hazama.

Backwards tech is very risky against certain characters but useful if they're commiting too much to just 2a'ing you right there. Many characters seem to have a hard time punishing it, but it does move you away from corner and they can probably run up and have a nice dashing attack if they're doing stuff on reaction.

Neutral tech for the win. You can just stick with that and be fine if they're not mixup heavy.

Forward tech is mostly useful if they're blindly running at your body to be close for both neutral and backwards teching, and if they're not landing something meaty enough to hurt that hits around their body, since the roll goes past them. Useful in the corner, too. Vulnerable to lots of things, but beats what will be good against both neutral and back techs.

Quick tech is if you're some sort of fucking hero and you're like "NICE PERFECTLY TIME'D MEATY! IM 360ing/AUTOGUARDING IT!"

Late techs are for when you're a dick and want to make them react to how you tech, but if you take too long(17 frames?) hits stop counting as part of the last combo and you eat shit. Very useful for beating some tech traps(and really, necessary so that some aren't broken) and very useful for stopping muscle memory meaties, but it gives them more setup time and is risky.

It's really matchup/positioning based. I should pay more attention to it in matches.

jesus christ these games have so much shit to be good at, i love it

more than likely i'd probably start her with gg, i mean that's one of the fg's that i've actually gone real deep into(7 years strong yo!) but I'd probably teach her someone easy to use before any crazy bsns, gotta get her to understand the idea behind fg's before we get into the different types of fighters in fgs

i.e. I used to be baller status with ky, finally picked up baiken a few years ago, never looked back since :O

also neutral teching like a boss ftw. although i sometimes get back roll because i over shoot my guarding >_>

ahah, yeah, i figured. i'd probably start someone with bb even though an sf would be easier to learn because..honestly, you can take any fighter a step at a time, and I actually understand what's going on in BB a lot better soo lmao

haha I dunno man, gg is just one of those fighters i actually feel confident about teaching other peoplez. I mean i know a good deal about bb, but I don't think i'd be able to teach someone anything other than hakumen shiz. but sf would probably be the best starting point for just about anyone, i mean..shit that was my first fg, i gave up playing 3s so i could learn gg though XD(back in 02-ish time period)
