i never post in this thread or any other thread non gameplay related..but it seems that i checked on this thread at the right moment. Myself and brandon(tager player) came to xanadu's several times many times evvery wednesday or eery other wedensday for blazblue.

However....it was just me and brandon and one weekend i invited a carl player who did make it out one sunday. Thats it within the last few months since that tournament took place. 3 true bb players. Those that claim omg get offline arent showing up to help improve the usual 2 players that show up. So i asked myself why come pay 5 dollars, and sit here and play this same tager for 4 to 5hours straight? When we can just play offline at my or his house and have internet access to have halo reach as an alternate option. So i stopped coming. It so funny how streetfighter iv players can make it out. But every single blazblue player claims to be soooooo busyyyy all the time and can never clear one night out there week to enjoy a game without lag interference.(may have spelled that wrong for the grammar and spell check whores online, i apologize).

Infact, im available yet again me and brandon both but once again i rather play at home then come and play against the same player and pay a fee. Not have internet access for halo or other online co-op games, and then have to drive him home from there. I mean honestly what could every blazblue online player being doing this late wednesday evenings?

Now if only you guys would like... continue to keep running it locally. Most people would kill for a venue to run games at. I mean, if they're keeping it casual, cool... but it kind of defeats the point of talking about serious strategy if you're just eating TV Dinner.

I'm not sure I'd call an hour drive locally, but I guess that's splitting hairs.

Honestly, I don't even have a problem with the MD Dustloop BB community being nonexistent on here. One of the problems I have, is people "hating" (i'm using that loosely) on the BB scene and calling "us" out for staying at home / playing online, yet what the hell is the GG scene doing? This is supposed to be Dustloop, and GG is supposed to be hot shit by comparison, yet I'm pretty sure I saw GG pull single digits for that tournament. So I guess the MD GG scene is worst than BB players by the logic everyone is using around here. And i'm not even hating on GG itself.

And i'll bring SF up again, the Xanadu thing is posted on SRK which is bigger than DL, and SF is way more popular than BB, and BB is never even listed for the list of games people might be playing, yet that ONE time we did do something SF was barely bigger than it. It's easy to pull players when the name of the game is Street Fighter.

So how can you even say anything about the BB scene not showing up, when in the instance there was a notice of something BB related happening it was one of the more popular games and pulled more people than the game that everyone seems to praise and whole basis of shitting on BB is from (GG).

If I lived in Baltimore and was more local to Xanadu and could show up on a regular basis then I wouldn't have a problem trying to make a BB scene myself and get people interested. But I don't have that opportunity.

Not live right in Baltimore, have to get up for work at 5am.

Right zeth and I was there for that tournament, I just wasn't early enough to participate due to my work schedule that overlapped the start. Seems like the times I show up there's no one but the same few people like Alex said. At that point you start considering just going to a friends place and discussing and working out strategy with them. Or just playing something else that no one plays anyway. Hell I can thank Alex for telling me to come to Xanadu in the first place, although I already knew about it, he force me too.

Personally, I was too busy, BS in Electrical engineering and working to pay bills in off time, but I'm done with school. If anything once this holiday season passes we can try to get as many fuckers out the house as possible. This net play warrior nonsense is getting a bit old tbh and I know for sure I can drag at least 3 more people with me if I give them enough time. Hell they have one of my tv's now (that i need to bring the remote for)

Well let's bring the Guilty out, still low numbers in that department...you have to force me to play fucking SSFIV =|

I'll come to whatever thing in January, December is poverty month. Not having a car doesn't really help, either. zeth's post I entirely agree with, tho

It looks like CS2 has a more interesting set of strong characters, but Arakune still looks to be a bastard. Console release/training mode will be the real test. And combos look not boring, or at least less loopy. Combos are pretty single player, but not boring combos are always a plus for people watching or getting hit by them.

MD GG tournaments have become pretty stale. They've essentially become Steve H donation drives/can predict top5. (Might have to try a different format.) Our tournaments are sometimes non-existent, but we still do come out and play. MD GG has been doing a good job of holding sessions for the past 7, 8-some years. We don't fill up an entire house like we use to, but we have been managing to keep sessions going every week or two. We just don't post up every session we have since the scene has become super-close knit and are very spur of the moment. Which by the way, if anyone wants in, speak up. We up in that Xanadu, if you need a ride we might be able to work something out. (but wholly shit, three dollars a gallon) And I'm still pretty generous with my time and teaching people GG.

btw, good games today. Ian, I will work on more ways to hit you with 6H.

weather.com says it's going to snow sunday monday. what are people's christmas like? super family lock down? is it impossible for me to get any buttons in during my 3-day day off?

Posted

Yeah the weather is shaping up to be some shit...I'm heading to see family on Xmas day, but I'm outta there by 5pm or earlier to be locked in my own place. Looks like a wack week coming up

Hungry Man has high levels of sodium.

You should seriously look at the calories on that shit. Ridiculous.

As far as the continuous BB troll goes (which it is), having an offline tournament once a month probably wouldn't hurt. Put something on the line, bring folks out, give incentive... pretty non-committal and it just works to give people a goal to shoot for. All someone has to do is run it, as has been shown in the past. It's not rocket science, the request is literally "Play offline for something serious realz." Run your own shit, lol.

If only BB was a good game ;_;.

just because your not good in a particular game doesnt mean its not good. Just because a few dumbass in the scene may have said it's not a good game doesnt mean " oh well he said it wasnt good, now i think it too although i dont even play the game myself ", and just because blazblue is not boring simple and basic like streetfighter iv doesnt mean its a bad game either. Because truth be told streetfighter iv sucks ass on many levels and stills has a bunch of players playing that. heck bout 85% of the players truely suck at it but still play it because its much more simple then other games....

PAT, yup 3 dollars a gallon its pretty fuckin fail. i wonder how in the last two weeks did gas go up 15 cent =/.

Cs2 is looking mighty good,

Tarnish: i do set-up and ask people to go. but like i said it seems that all bb players are way to busy to show up. there been times where i have sat there and played in training mode while there because no one comes out.

Im more then happy to help any persons who live a bit out of the way of baltimore get to xanadu for blazblue like other players in the scene have done.

Zeth: coming at xanadu's about say 7 or 8 then leaving at 11 or 11 30 to get home at 12 30, then get at 5am on some weeks isnt too bad. I get at 5 45am for work every morning.

I don't know about BBCS being a good game, Alex. Didn't your character get paradigm-shifted to the kingdom of crap tiers? They made too many changes that I consider relatively major for the game to have tweaked balance. It seems more like they just ran a raffle of characters to see who would get changed greatly, and then flipped a coin to see if it would be for better or worse. BBCS2, from what I hear, might actually be a tweak to make things less bad. I think BBCS2 might be something I can actually play, if Noel isn't a bottom barrel bitch like in CS. I'd wouldn't mind playing a newer game.

the thing is should it matter if one character is horrible? Does one character being horrible determine the entire game? Noel wasnt even the worst character in cs1. She did damage, and now that cs2 is here they claim better pokes are making her overpowered when she is greatly unchanged compared to her cs1 self. And to be completely fair and honest with you, from when we played in ct, you could use a bit more practice in actual blazblue match-ups. Sometimes i feel as though players say oh well i lost because my character is crap and then blame the character or the top tier character who beat them. Sometimes its the player too. I still win a whole shit load of my matches against evey character going against alot of players i faced online and offline. The only time it matter if your character sucks or not is when you actually run into a player of even or greater skill level and game understanding then you do. Even then i manage to pull out a win here and there against players using better characters( essentially every character was better then rachel).

When playing against lord knight i did well, and he even told me so. And lord knight wins a large majority of blazblue tournaments held on the east coast. Heck i play bridget who is listed bottom 2 worst characters. Sometimes(if not alot of the time) i lost because i had poor understanding of the game and match-ups. But, just because bridget sucks doesnt make guilty gear suck as a game. There many great things to be said about blazblue that out way that things that people may try and say to make it seem like a bad game. I really really cannot say the same for streetfighteriv. Its simplicity, and lack of options for most of the cast is what makes it way more user friendly and popular amongist many of its free to beat players.

Well, if you want an honest opinion of my views. I thought the game would be an escape from sf4 since i was getting extremely burnt out at the time. Played the game since may-june ish? when we all went to power GAMES to play till last year NEC where i decided i would fully quit CT. and hey, i got 9th.

Started playing BBCS right as i went back to Taiwan following NEC, got a feel for the game, ecstatic that ragna got buffs. Came back, played at CTF from jan to feb about 3-4 times? and then back to taiwan for me. I played at the arcade almost every day, at least 4-5 times a week. Then around that time before EVO, it occurred to me the same problem that i had with CT. I hated every single matchup. Every single one. There were no fun matchups for me to play in the game. The game just simply felt like work. And it felt dull, lifeless, drawn out. When I was watching match vids of the game, i would simply scroll past through the combos since they took forever or i knew that they were simply going to die either from the damage of the combo or the oki that would come next. Just fast forwarding through everything. So i dropped it and picked up Gundam vs gundam next and a tiny bit of arcana heart. EVO rolled around and I played a tiny bit at evo, entered the evo tourney. Beat some poor sap that remembered me beating him at NEC and then lost my 2nd match since the good old nerves kicked in (eric you should know this well). I then just dropped out and decided to chill at vegas.

welp thats my story.

I just don't like how the way thinking works in this game, there isn't really any. You run in or space out and hit your good buttons which then go into a combo. It's always the same combo. BB made me appreciate GG alot more since you're always not going for the huge combo which you always can get in BB. I sound like eric when i say this, but I try to space and punish in this game. That's all I did. I didn't like rushing down because the frames just didn't feel right at all. If you look at the frame data, moves are what? 8 frames? 13 frames? etc etc, and they're ALL negative.

"BUT THEY CHAIN INTO EACH OTHER YOU SEE"

zzzzzzzz

Pressure in that game was dial a pressure string and hope they get hit by it.

It's just rare to see some clutch stuff in that game

i thought about it, everybody that played at power gamer back when CT came out quit the game. Tarnish, robert 'plafustubo' rufus, jon, pat, matt, i guess xiggurat, and myself. Many more, but to sum it up, everybody dropped it.

Indeed, Noel isn't half as bad, she's a risky character...I play her, no when to gamble and know when you need to improve. Last time I played Alex I fell for his block-strings too much.

In any case what you said is true, like with anything we need to actually have a committed initial host. Making a bracket isn't half as difficult as some people make it out to be with the amount of software out there. (Hell I have one that functions great) I don't mind assisting where necessary, just know that I'm not available until after MagFest. Honestly I don't think much is going to get solved this time of year with all the holidays and new years and what not. And with Xanadu's next monthly coinciding with another hectic date, well...meh. How about we just organize something for January on one of the Wednesdays before some folks head back for college.

@Alex ...I need to renew my damn live subscription =| , only play BB on there occasionally since my Hori needs new parts.

I haven't even read those walls of text between here and my previous post, but I will. It's good to see that MD is off of life support. I was about to check up to see whether the Make A Wish foundation would be willing to make a wish for this thread...

Ok, I read the text. Alex, you can't play as Rachel in CT and believe Noel has any good chance against your hurricane katrina abilities if you know what you're doing. I'll grant you that you know what you're doing with CT rachel, but if you're honest to yourself you'll understand the bullshit in thinking CT Noel has anywhere near the capabilities of CT Rachel. At least with GG, the tier spread is more narrow, and hopefully BBCS2 will adopt that strategy instead of the "broken == fun" philosophies of mori. The horribleness of BBCS is that some things were changed completely that didn't need to be changed. Noel turned into nearly a whole new character, when in CT she was mid-tier at best. Granted, CT was a crazy broken game in terms of balance, but the fact that her 5A's brokeness only made her mid-tier should mean something. Why not just change that and reduce her damage and be done with it? Less testing necessary, and less of a chance to royally fuck up.

just because your not good in a particular game doesnt mean its not good.

YO, UHHHHHH! He said you some hot garbage wraped in dookie, Avion. Aaaaaaaaaahahahahaha Alex flamin it up!

Months come and go, like, the venue isn't going anywhere. And what I've been saying doesn't really apply to you Alex. We have folks talking about being busy/not getting support. The busy is on them, the "not getting support" is kind of bullshit considering the venue and how they shouldn't be expecting shit to just be done for them. It's not about going somewhere to play casually, it's about having a tournament that actually means something rather than pretending that the virtual world of Hungry Man means anything lol.
