Ultra huh, now all of a sudden I want everyone to have 3 Ultra choices a la 3 Super Art choices in SF3!

Make it happen Capcom.

I feel insulted by that trailer. No explanation of the new modes or features, terrible showing of the "new" 5 (well, 4, because they are trying to drum up hype before revealing they just ported Haggar), no ultras shown for any of the "new" characters...

Honestly, after that absolutely, utterly pitiful trailer, I DEMAND Ultra III for everyone.

Yes, because revealing everything about your game on the debut announcement, when the release is months away, is excellent PR :V

Don't even give me that. The trailer looks like a 5-10 minute Windows Movie Maker job, taking some tourney clips in there, flashing up something showing ~5 balance changes, only saying "we got new modes and features" without revealing what they are (given the laziness of just porting the SFXT extra characters, it's probably just Vanilla's survival and time attack modes back), a demonstration of the character that showed maybe 1 special (not super, not ultra, just 1 special) per character and then a bunch of random normals (with character models looking like they literally superimposed them in USF4 with no changes whatsoever), and no showing of this "mystery" 5th character (which, again, the quality reeks of cash-in, so I can only see this mystery character being whatever takes little to no effort, like porting Haggar) made that a trailer that was both dull and infuriating.

I won't really hold my hopes for it, since it seems like Capcom is doing whatever just to get more money for 0 effort (since they are literally ripping stages and characters from one game to this one), but I want Rolento's hanging wire back. Rolento's always been fun, but it was bittersweet using him in SFXT because they went ultra-lazy on his super and cross art and didn't give him the wire. Ultra 3 would be nice, but that requires actual effort, and we can't have that.

It's called an announcement trailer for a reason. Just be happy that the game exists, and they'll get to the reveals later.

In other news, Xian won Evo with Gen.

So basically, the only characters SFxT had that SF4 didn't ...are now in Ultra Street Fighter 4.

I get the feeling Capcom finally gave up on Street Fighter x Tekken.

Now, I'm glad I skipped on Arcade Edition.

Not sure why I should be happy that the game exists. I felt AE 2012 was fine and didn't need a fix, because the minimal issues that exist can be worked around easily, meanwhile this "fix" has the potential to break things (so, we're buffing Cammy while giving Fei Long only nerfs? Great "balancing", Capcom.)

They are copy-and-pasting 6 stages from SFXT, but, those stages (and the stage music for them) sucked. Why can we not get either completely new stages, or updated versions of stages people have been wanting to see, like the SFA2 Australia stage or something?

They have 5 new characters, but they are also copy-pasted from SFXT to USF4. I like the 4 characters, but it's silly to only add them and your "mystery character" (that will just end up being Haggar ported from MVC3 most likely) when you have so many fan requested characters you could have chosen from, and simply ignored to save yourself some work. Why should I praise laziness? I didn't need a new version for this, because it's been possible with PC modding for a bit, so it really just feels like they took a PC mod and legitimized it (kind of like SFXMM being taken and given their official brand as their own product). And then the trailer for the pre-existing 4 they are porting don't even show their super, ultra, or anything, just 1 special and a bunch of random normals.

Also, basically just saying "we have new modes and features" without demonstrating even a single one of them, isn't hype, it's the opposite of that. It's lame as hell. Yeah, whatever, they can't show all their cards, but absolutely nothing? For all we know, we could be waiting until like a month from launch, and it's like "here's your new modes and features!" and it's just the cut Vanilla modes back, and the features as just being able to change the menu pictures. You need to show SOMETHING when you announce that you have new modes and features.

This whole package didn't need to exist, and it just feels like someone at Capcom made some console/PC discs/downloads of AE where they used PC mods to port the SFXT characters and stages. You don't need a whole new version for balance changes, that could have been a patch like 2012 was, so the reason Ultra has to exist is to provide new content, but it's just purely recycling a recent game instead of putting even a modicum of effort.

I remember back when dlc was meant to be free updates to the game.

We've had more cash in sequels than ever before despite having a system which was designed specifically to fix the problem.

I remember when gamers weren't so whiny and entitled

First off, you don't have to buy a whole new disc, you haven't had to do that since SUPER STREET FIGHTER 4 a 3 year old game, if you so choose you could be using that disc for AE, ver 2012, AND NOW Ultra, all of which boast MORE characters AND features. I still remember people flipping their shit that CSE had to be a full (discounted outside of Japan) game and only added 1 character and story. And if nothing else, the price for characters alone isn't that bad either with both AE and Ultra costing $14.99 for the download versions adding 4 and 5 characters respectively at $3.75 and $3 a piece (again using BB; $8/character (only 3) then "forcing" you to buy a $40 game). Then there's the roster, it might seem "lazy" to you but here's the thing...THOSE CHARACTERS ARE ACTUALLY REALLY POPULAR! And as awesome a game as SFxT is (and stop hating, it's played very healthily and especially now no one hates on it but people who are stuck in their 1st impressions) it's a different game from SF4 and tons of people would love to play them in that environment. Everyone clamors for more SF3 characters (Hugo, Elena) and Rolento hasn't had a SF game since Alpha, and before SFxT he wasn't seen since CvS2, and everyone loves to fap off to Poison. Also they're making new animations and HAVE to completely retool them to work in a different engine, and aside from that, what sense would it make for them to create 5 new assets from the ground up at the tail end of a generation? And yeah, you're getting a BRAND NEW character, one that hasn't been in SF period and who has been confirmed NOT to be either Asura or Mega "Bad Boxart" Man (and even if it is Haggar, so? Again, another widely requested character, and who would be even MORE work to port since not only are the SF and Marvel gameplay engines wildly different, but so too are their graphics engines). And we haven't even gotten into the fact that EVERYONE is receiving balance changes (some of which have already been previewed at their panel at EVO, but for obvious time restraints couldn't be shown on the main stage) and new modes which could include the much wanted online training mode. Oh and if you buy the boxed version, you get $40 worth of FREE DLC, something that WAS NOT offered for the boxed ver of AE and one of the most enticing incentives for me

as I have not and will not buy those costumes lol

and they're still offering it at the discount of $39.99 as opposed to a full $59.99

Any way you slice it, Ultra is a perfectly fine and possibly great update. From the sounds of it on here, most people skipped AE anyways, so none of those can say shit about it, and more of those people blindly hate on (and most likely passed on) SFxT too, so again shhhhhh!

Question: Was the fighting engine and/or fighting game mchanics of the game said to be reworked or improved in any way? Or is it the same combat, with just more characters, more stages, new modes and a rebalancing?

Posted
The latter

So Capcom are releasing more of the same game? Don't people get tired of SF4's engine? Heck when BBCSEX was released a lot of BB players were getting sick of the CS engine. Aren't there things in SF4's engine that Capcom can improve upon?

It would be amazing if everyone got a second super or a third Ultra (hence the name)...but we all know that's not gonna happen.

There is some ennui with SF4, but not for the reasons you might think, for example most people are tired of the fact unblockable setups have become such a HUGE part of high level play, and when your name is Cammy and you can set them up like no tomorrow.

SF4 has been an interesting beast with each iterations, finding a relatively good balance with each ginormous roster, I mean, top 8s are still wildly diverse (Makoto in Top 8, at EVO, WUT!? And Infiltration even used Hakan, freaking Hakan!).

If nothing else the Capcom community is good at keeping the longevity in their franchises, I mean, look at the 2 (STILL play to the day, not counting HDR), Alpha, and 3 series.
