Koopa_Klawz Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 For those of you who've been using OD a lot: what are the best places to use it during a regular combo? I just want to stop Nu's from bursting the instant I hit them. So far it seems like: 3C CH, 5C (OD) 6B CH, 5C (OD) ^might work but then there's stuff like Enma and Renka combos. I've been trying out some combos that give me raw OD like CH 3C/6B > 2C > Hotaru > AD > OD in training mode. Has really good corner carry, hotaru goes through bursts, and of course, raw OD. I've also been doing Something > Kishuu > Enma > OD in actual matches and I usually have enough magatama to do Zan after OD. I can try to find more if you want me to.
Moblin Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) Usually everyone I fight bursts the moment I hit them with a CH 3c or 6B, before the move is even finished. They know that Hakumen can get huge damage off of it, and unless I hit them with it twice in one round (not likely against skilled opponents) you're never going to get a good OD combo off of it. My usual OD route is through is Enma. Poke them down, hit them with a Bnb for 2k or so, and they're in crippling range by an OD combo as long as it doesn't start with 2a. 2b ---> enma, OD ---> Zantetsu combo gives you about 5k unburstable, and is much harder to see coming because of its speed. More than 5k in the corner. The other starter I am having a lot of success with is Hotaru - get them into the corner, wait for them to jump or airdash out, Hotaru and instantly overdrive out of the airdash. These take a bit of hit comfirming to use, but they are by far the more reliable OD starters for me. (These are all assuming you're at less than 50% HP) If their burst is gone, I usually go the noob route and link anything to 5c --> OD. It's so easy after that to just link moves together and end with super for like 3k more damage than normal. Edited December 14, 2013 by Moblin
OmnixTSC Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 The other good thing about 2B > Enma > OD is that most of the time, your opponent will know that you're capable of confirming into OD from a 2B starter and attempt to burst it. The Kishuu will more often than not go through the burst, allowing you to get a better combo with like 5C > Enma > OD or something. If they don't know or don't think about it...well, you get the 5k+ damage, right? :P
Schneider-X Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 You can do something like starter, Renka (1), kishuu 5C OD if they burst the second you touch them. The kishuu will go through the burst if they burst during the renka hit. Keep in mind that if the opponent waits to burst as enma or hotaru hits we'll get blown back regardless.
Raziul Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Had an interesting moment last night where I activated Hakumen's Astral as Tsubaki was doing wake up DP. It ignored the initial hits and then caught her as she reached the top of the animation. This lead to getting the black and white freeze frame with Tsubaki being like 10 feet above Hakumen while she still gets destroyed by the astral. I imagine it had something to do with her DP having projectile properties I guess. Was cool to see though.
dioxideUniversa Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 hakumen's astral works on projectiles, though. it's throws it doesn't beat
mAc Chaos Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 It's the other way around. Yukikaze is the one that works on projectiles.
Raziul Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 hakumen's astral works on projectiles, though. it's throws it doesn't beat That's Yukikaze. Yuki activates on projectiles but loses to grabs Astral activates on grabs, but won't on projectiles.
Raziul Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Will Astral work on Hazama's Drive? Tried to get it off in a match and see, but the snake went over it.
mAc Chaos Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Hazama's chains have a physical property so they aren't purely projectiles. Yukikaze also freezes them.
dioxideUniversa Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 ah yeah, it was the hazama thing i was thinking of. confuseddd

Isuna Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Still sad about them making Nirvana/Ignis not activate Akumetsu. The other day I played Hakumen for the first time in six months or so versus my friend. Doing OD in neutral just to get magatama enough for Akumetsu and then proceding to actually astral felt satisfying to say the least.

You haven't lived until you've whiffed astral, activated OD, and activated a 2nd astral to have it hit.
Raziul Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) Timing. It's important. Most of my friends and I play at mid tier skill levels, so I haven't made a habit of busting out OD combos in every fight. It tends to get used for bursts or Mugen > Shippu spam. I don't know about any of you all, but OD Yukikaze feels like the hardest thing ever to pull off. Most people get insanely defensive once you pop that OD. EDIT: Just realized I could have 2C'd the nails for a really funny void finish. Oh well. Additionally, since it happened last night, a great place to stick your Astral when fighting Kagura is anywhere between his drive moves. They love that 6DC, so just low block and charge. As soon as they cancel into their next move, announce their imminent doom by activating the astral. Edited December 16, 2013 by Raziul
Moblin Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 The only time I've landed OD yukikaze was in losers finals of a tournament we had after CP was out for like 2 weeks. No one falls for that one anymore
BladeOfJustice7 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Lol. I think Hakumen could use a new Astral, one that is a command grab. His Astral, which was already almost useless, has become even more useless since it can't counter Puppets. Maybe the new Astral could be the technique he used to kill Terumi and Hazama in story mode. Those are my recent thoughts.

Those are my recent thoughts. I always felt his Astral should remove their corpses from the screen, since he's pretty much cleaving through time and space, and they're in the way. The puppets BS is a real downer, especially when it happens and Relius is standing there all up in your face. The should add a certain range to that if the doll hits it and the controller is close enough, it'd work. I don't see why not, since I've been told Noel's new counter Astral works against projectiles.
Kriegdrache Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 The best thing about OD Yuki is getting the kill with the very last hit. I love doing that
BlackYakuzu94 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 If Hakumen did get a new Astral that was similar to how he killed Terumi, the superflash would freeze the screen.
Moblin Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) Wait a minute. Hakumen killed terumi? In the CP story or EX? edit: oh, it seems like he used a "time killer" technique. Who says that his astral hasn't been this move all along? Edited December 16, 2013 by Moblin
BlackYakuzu94 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Because they have completely different names.
Moblin Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Oh. Today I looked up hakumen's astral's name. Also apparently the literal translation of his drive is Slaying God. That explains a lot.
