Changing the date to Friday, April 24th for the swiss bracket. Partially b/c I forgot to put the sign-up sheep live for everyone and partially b/c there isn't too much anime going on on Friday for NWM7. Sorry about that, guys. Sign-Up Format will be based on the number of players that sign-up. If there are 8 players or less, the tournament will be best of 5 sets. Otherwise, it'll be best of 3.

Persona 4 Ultimax FT10s (04/19/15 @ 3PM EST)
OmnixTSC replied to MastaToken's topic in P4A Online Play
I can probably help with commentary as well, though I won't be playing. -
Margaret's 5A is good in this matchup, but I feel like you're overselling it just a bit. Yukari can place her orbs at a height where Margaret's 5A will only hit the persona (Unless she does her 214/j.214 series orbs, where you'll just miss them completely). Here, she'll be safe from all of your cancel options even if you do manage to hit the persona. If you try to 5B under the orb, you'll get CH. You can still run under the orb like normal and try to 2A Yukari to force her to block, but that would mean you would've had to commit already to just running by the orb: it's not something you can just react to. Also, Yukari's 2C outspaces Margaret's 5A by a bit, so you could get whiff punished (though you're more likely to just get put into block stun) and microdash sweep will beat Margaret's 5A clean just inside of max range. Now for the arrows: 5A does not stop charged arrows at all, nor does it stop her 236 series. I don't know why you glossed over that, but I'm just going to assume you forgot about these two things. 5A also has a lot of issues with catching redirected arrows. Margaret's mixup on a knockdown (especially in the corner) is definitely better and her oki is somewhat safer, but Yukari's mixup/oki isn't terrible either. Her reward from just hitting you with j.A/5A is really good, so even the standard high/low/throw mixup that she gets safely the majority of the time can be threatening. She also gets similar positioning from midscreen hits if she doesn't reach the corner + an ailment. It's straighforward, but you will still get hit by it often enough for it to be relevant. As for the focus on throws...throws are definitely a big part of her stagger game (as it is for stagger pressure in general), but Yukari isn't too bothered by the fuzzy meta. Her pressure naturally deals with people fuzzy jumping and using fuzzy DP, so she doesn't have to go out of her way to bait either. If you guess wrong on a fuzzy attempt and she hits you...well, you're probably taking 4-5k and getting put in the corner with an ailment on you for absolutely no resources. I'm pretty sure Tahichi plays Margaret more b/c she's more fun for him, btw. I've never seen anything that would suggest otherwise. Hmm, I don't think I missed anything. Let me know if there's anything else you guys want to talk about in the matchup. I enjoy discussing this type of thing and hearing what people think!

I haven't done anything in a while, so it's about time to fix that. I'll be holding a swiss bracket tourney next Thursday, April 23rd if anyone is interested in joining. Normally I'd run this on the weekend, but I don't want to stop some people from watching NWM7 (and I'd prefer to watch that over streaming, too). I'll open up sign-ups Saturday night. Also, I might stream some stuff this weekend along the lines of 'first come, first serve' FT5s. Not entirely sure yet, but I'll check back in here later if I end up doing something.

I just realized that I forgot to clear and open this back up on Monday...ugh, sorry. Sign-Up Here Anyways, we're doing this again on this coming Sunday (4/5). If you'd like to enter, be sure to sign-up before 5:30PM CST as I'll be cutting off sign-ups this time around. The stream will start at 5PM CST as long as there aren't any delays.
-
Okay, we're doing Ft3s and Ft5s tomorrow. This'll be the first time I attempt this, so you guys will have to bare with me if there are any technical difficulties or anything. I'm not going to be doing a sign-up sheet this time around, so as long as you post here or in the stream chat during the session, I'll add you to the list. Remember, these are moreso for getting feedback and critiques than anything else, so join with that in mind. This will start around 4PM CST, but it might me a bit delayed depending on whether or not I can pull commentators orz Edit: Okay, a sign-up sheet would still be a good idea, haha. You can sign-up here and see who all is confirmed atm.

I don't remember what the OS is, but you actually kind of benefit from him using it. You can add another layer to your RPS game if an Aki is doing this by tossing in Maragidynes when he breaks your persona or setting up awakening B Maziodyne (since Thanatos will relocate to where you are). Make sure you're sitting near-fullscreen, though. Other than that, just doing 5C > OMC > 5C as a frame trap will beat this.
-
Don't worry about it! There will be more than one of these, so I'm sure you'll get a chance to play. I think we'll have some west coast players or mid-west ones that will be up for playing. Just be sure to check-in here to see if anyone is willing to test the connection with you. Oh, do you at least have a twitch account? It'd be easier to find someone for you if you could chat with us during the stream.
-
Do you mean if it hits you while you're in the air or when you're forced to block it on the ground? If it's the former, you can burst to avoid getting grabbed. Otherwise, you have to just take the hit. If it's the latter, you just crouch under the lightning.

Just trying to get more people interested in this game and help people prepare a bit more. If I have fun doing it, it's even better :D I'd definitely save and upload the archives to youtube so that players could review their matches. Like you said, the players won't be able to listen while they're playing. Having the feedback available to them afterwards is important.

Poison is really strong in this matchup. You rarely have to take risks against Kanji at neutral or while pressuring, so if you condition him to block for a while and then outspace his normals, you should try to stick in some 2Ds.

I'm going to try to set something up for this Sunday. This one will be rather short notice, but I plan to schedule the others in advance (I want to have a somewhat consistent schedule that everyone can see to know when things are happening). Please vote for the type of stream session you'd prefer to see via this straw poll: http://strawpoll.me/3961811 I'll cut off voting Saturday night, so be sure to get those votes in.

I've seen people complaining on twitter and in skype chats primarily. The thing about the NA lobby is also that a lot of people just sit in there without actually playing, so you can't really take them into consideration. Maybe not everyone is having trouble finding opponents, but I've seen enough complaints to want to try something different.
-
For both, the focus will just be on the players if they specifically asked for critiques. Otherwise, it'll just be commentary that analyzes decision making and explains why choices are made or why they should/shouldn't be made. If people want to try their hand at commentating one of the lobbies, I'm up for that as well. The intent will have to be to give feedback, though, so I'm probably going to stick to people that have a decent understanding of the game at the bare minimum.

Hello, folks. I noticed that a lot of players have been having issues with consistent matchmaking lately and wanted to see if this would be a good idea to work with. The plan is to host stream lobbies whenever I can with a maximum of 4 or 5 slots (one for myself so I can stream it) where we rotate in players regularly. The lobby size will be this small in order to allow whoever is currently in the lobby to get a good amount of games in before we allow the next set of players to join. If there are commentators available, I will add additional slots to the lobby for them. Stream: twitch.tv/omnix_tsc With this idea in mind, I need to find a format for rotating in players if there are others waiting to join. I'm open to suggestions on this, but the ideas I have so far are as follows: 1) Normal Casuals - The lobby size will still be limited, but the lobby will be open for anyone to play for however long they wish to play. 2) 20 or 25 Game Limit - This limit is by no means set in stone. For whatever group of players is on deck, there would be a cap on the total number of games allowed between all players. We could then either have the person with the most wins (3-man rotation) or the two players with the most wins (4-man rotation) remain while the others are rotated out for other players at the end. Depending on the nature of the stream (whether specific players are looking for feedback or not), we could also do the opposite and have the players with the least wins stay on. It just depends on what we're going for at that particular moment. 3) Lives/Stock System - This one is kinda funny and I don't think it's been done before for this type of game (if it has, I haven't seen it). There would be a player order based on when a player shows up and each player would be given a set number of 'lives'. If you haven't already guessed what this means, you'd be allowed to play in the lobby if your turn was up until you are out of lives. When you do run out, you'd be sent to the back of the line and be required to go through the rotation again. This would sort of give players an incentive to beat the opponents that are doing really well to knock them out of the lobby. I'd have to make a waiting list for this based on when people show up, but it'd be something that everyone could see in order to know when it's their turn to play. You're welcome to pass as well, all the while maintaining your position in the order for up to 2-3 rotations (not sure what the limit should be, yet). 4) FT3 or FT5 Sets - Now this one is something everyone should be familiar with. If you have a specific player that you want to play against and the lobby is pretty vacant, we can go ahead and setup a FT3 or a FT5 and have it streamed. I'm not opposed to having FT10s, but these usually take up a lot of time. Personally, I'd rather have different players on stream quite regularly. That's all I have for now as far as normal rotations are concerned. I could also maybe schedule some swiss leagues for weekends if I'm not doing anything as long as people are interested. Be sure to let me know what you guys think about all of this! This could be a good way to help people get more experience and exposure. Edit: For any of these, connection tests will be a possibility. It's more important for the sets, but if everyone in a lobby is complaining about a specific connection, I'll allow the participants to vote on whether or not a particular player will stay or make my own decision based on what I observe. I feel like the fairest way to do it would be to just test connections in advance and keep things region-based, but I might just have to dedicate stream time to different regions.

[PSN] NA P4AU Tournament - April 5th @ 3PM EST
OmnixTSC replied to Spring_Raid's topic in P4A Online Play
He threw the match b/c he wasn't happy about what was happening in general for that tournament, Arc Divide was on, and he needed to go eat (he's also scum). Connections were super suspect for everyone when it's usually only a few connections that are odd. It's netplay, though...so what can you really do? -
It was way too easy for characters to just bully Liz with 5A/2As so that they could react to her reversal. I even do it when I fight other Liz players and they basically can't stop it. Even other normals would recover in-time for the opponent to at the very least tech the DP, which put Liz back at neutral against everyone which was only a marginally better situation than them still pressuring her...compared to everyone else who got to at least press an advantage b/c of a CH knockdown or a large untechable window since their DPs are physical hits. It doesn't matter that it's slower and has less invul. It's usable now. How did that invul or speed help up us when we basically could never use it outside of our wake-up? Liz is so slow and her other options were so poor that it's not like the opponent is worse off waiting for it on wake-up or that Liz could even capitalize off of it most of the time. This risk far outweighed the reward before, but now we can at least use it in other situations to enforce a threat on our defense. It was okay sometimes, but it was far from reliable. It's not just the resource usage that was bad on it, the risk/reward was terribly skewed on it compared to other reversals to the point where you were better off blocking most of the time unless you knew for sure Wail would punish something. Other supers would at least enforce some kind of neutral threat and be comparatively safe if blocked with extra resources on deck. Wail didn't give us such luxuries so I'd honestly say it wasn't very useful at all lol
-
We'll still be able to use Ghastly Wail in 2.0, it'll probably just be stacked with Mahamudoon to maximize damage in combos. This shouldn't be too hard to setup if we have more meterless routes to work with like I'm expecting (or at least they'll require less meter overall). That aside, I'm more worried about her neutral and pressure game. It looks like she has general neutral buffs, but it'll be awhile before we see how much they affect matchups. Her pressure game looks a bit better, but it still seems to have the same general weaknesses unless she got frame data buffs that we don't know about.
-
No, no it wasn't. I don't even know why you would think that ;-; Also, considering our DP is now faster and Debilitate is actually usable now that it's a pseudo-flash kick...our reversals are definitely better in this version compared to the last two lol

It depends on how many hits of SB Garu you land on the opponent.
