I thought a rep/badge system is put into place so you can tell a good/experienced poster from a bad/'noob' one? It's not like you actually GET anything from it. If you're really against having a rep system, AT LEAST have some sort of 'tournament placing' icon... SOMETHING. Give someone a badge when they get top 3 or 8 at a major or something along those lines. If you're so worried about a rep system being abused, why not try something that CAN'T be abused or discredited? Well, unless you're Doren... he gets 9th place even if he 'wins'.

Maybe we can discuss it in a new thread once the admins get a chance to look through most of the suggestions.

Its a public acknowledgment from the mod team demonstrating that you're worth listening to. Yes, winning a major tournament is good grounds for getting a badge.

It's just that there's some crack in the current system, or we wouldn't be having this conversation. Maybe it relies too much on user integrity or moderator control, I don't know. For one: an expert player can just issue a challenge over the internet and give a beat-down to any n00b who thinks he's the shit. Theorycrafting is discouraged and "stupid shit" is only tolerated if you have the battle-logs to prove your strategy. Dustloop doesn't have any of that, because expert play cannot be done online. Back in the old days, people bought plane tickets.

But a mother claps for her kids when they do well at school, win in sports, etc. etc. The moderation team's job is to foster a helpful community. And unfortunately, that means the moderation team needs to play the role of the parent. Any moderator who gives out infractions should be aware of this phenomenon. They're probably used to parenting us. (Isn't that right papa juice?)

The current problem is half the user database coupled with moderations where people get banned because of "trolling that goes too far" rather then because they make shit up and pollute the community. I guess the impression is that posts that do split the regulations don't have anything worthwhile in them. I know that not to be true, but I've got to say that it's not exactly untrue either.
