FerrellJ Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) She's not a stripper, that's the Barbarian Class :< Also Boss Ma-Ryan is NOTHING like I thought she'd be when she was announced, overall she's kinda worst than regular Ma-Ryan, her Kick is better but has ALOT less range and she lost her ability to control space due to the loss of Fireworks. Trap Hole is ok but it's blockable while standing and can obviously be jumped over, also doesn't seem to be possible to combo with (still require further testing). Personally I prefer Serika's Shadow Bind over it because Shadow Bind stays on the ground for a period of time and leave the opponent in a standing state, Trap Hole does the opposite and is only active for a few frames and on hit puts them in a special low state, and upon exit the opponent is considered to be in a jumping state. Glad that she's viable for standard play, but she just seems like a weaker Partner overall :< (but at least she has that awesome cape!) I noticed that Boss Ma-Ryan's kick is an overhead. Not sure if any other partners have lows or overheads- I know I've seen some that seem like they should be overhead but can be blocked crouching. Not sure how "legal" that makes her for tournament play because I could easily see some unblockable setups with that. Corrected: it is not an overhead- training mode fail on my part. That said, I somehow managed to find a setup that's the opposite of an unblockable- I forget what assist I had but it was with Chizuru. I did her 214X attack on wakeup along with the partner attack. I set the dummy up with the setup and was able to block the assist attack in either direction (Chizuru's attack whiffs as is only there for the actual crossup). I really wish I had written the setup down but I neglected to... Since my copy STILL isnt here i cant ask anything but cosmetic questions about the game; But can you select Boss Ma-Ryan's level in VS (the "Everything's" burning" level) ? and also, is she unlocked from the get go, or do you have to finish storymode or something? Also from what i've got out of the japanese sites, Oboro seems to have different attacks while dashing, so can someone test if you can run in and preform a throw or will it just go the his Dash Special? Thanks in advance. Ugh...next time im gonna shell out some more cash and go with FedEx. This wait is killing me. Yes, you can select the "boss" stage. It's available from the start. Boss Ma-Ryan is unlocked for use once you beat her once in story mode. Obouro will always do his alternate dash attack after the run unless you come to a complete stop then press 6(or 4)+C again. Even the KOF trick of pressing back before the attack button results in him performing the special attack. It's actually pretty "forgiving" when it comes to that attack- you can let the stick fall back to neutral and press the button and still get the attack- basically, if he's still in the dash animation or its recovery and you press a button, you'll get the dash's attack. RagnellBlue Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Just ran a check on Oboro, and you have to come to a stop in order to do a grab. The pause is quite brief though, but enough to make it so you can't grab instantly out of a dash. Also, a small bonus.
SolxBaiken Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) I noticed that Boss Ma-Ryan's kick is an overhead. FREAKING LIAR! D: I thought it was too good to be true, but no it is not an overhead :< you can use any block on Partner attacks, no doubt to prevent unblockable setups And I kinda take it back, Boss Ma-Ryan's Kick is kinda worst...unlike the regular ver it doesn't cause knockback but instead ground bounce which is cool because you can further extend your combo, however like I said earlier it has ALOT less range AND it has NO tracking unlike the regular version (if your back is against the corner there's a decently big spot where B.Ma-Ryan will completely whiff the opponent...). ...kind of a cruddy trade off because you have to be that much more spacing dependent. You can combo Trap Hole, but due to the state it starts (and leaves) the opponent in, it may be tricky to make it truly rewarding. Not 100% sure how to place her with other Partners yet, but compared to her normal version she's pretty garbage IMO (but that cape is enough for me to still use her~) but yeah she's definitely ok for regular play, she doesn't have anything special that makes her any more powerful than other Partners lol EDIT: Oh yeah and F Super Chizuru Omega X' if someone says they beat her, you better be ready to show some proof, now I know why they only require you to encounter rather than beat her for that trophy... toanenadiz Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Why doesn't the OP have a link to the japanese wiki? It is a pretty good resource (except for the fact that it is in japanese...) and I haven't found anything like it yet in English (though Mizuumi's AP wiki looks like it is going to be good).
FerrellJ Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 FREAKING LIAR! D: I could have sworn I had the dummy set to block- I even remember testing it... Original post corrected though. Thanks for catching that (thought I suppose it wasn't too hard to catch). Also, I would like to amend my previous statement about Sasara's Splash Art being the best- Chizuru's is up there too.
SolxBaiken Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Haha, yeah I usually manually record myself block, just to be on the safe side (and the AI seems to have this weird habit of standing to block moves if set to crouch lol). Eh nothing flashy but here's what I came up with Sasara/B.Ma-Ryan: - 5A > 5B > 623+B (4/6+D) > 623+C > BC = 7020, 1 bar, requires corner - 5B (D) > 5C > 5B > 236236+AB = 6720, 2 bars, requires corner - 5A (D) > 5B > 5B > 236236+AB = 6120, 2 bars - 5B (D) > 5C > 214+B = 4760, 1 bar - 5B (4/6+D) > 5B > 623+B = 4420, 1 bar - 5A (D) > 5B > 22+X = 2480, 1 bar Bottom one is my favorite, cause it allows Sasara to use a buff spell or heal uninterrupted, making Trap Hole better than Serika's Shadow Bind by just a tiny bit, since Bind is slow to activate and you can't preform any Special cancel moves without dropping the combo and having Bind blocked.
FerrellJ Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I think boss-Ryan definitely has potential, at least in combos. I was playing around with her a bit while practicing with Karulau and came up with this: 623X, walk forward, 5B (input as 6B) > 6D > 214B, 623A (7040 damage, 1 meter) 623X, walk forward, 5B > 6D > 214B, 66A > 2141236 A+B (8320 damage, 2 meters) I'm not sure if the damage is all that great for a 623X starter, but it's about on par with stuff I was able to figure out with other partners. I'm thinking that the ground bounce on Ma-Ryan's dive kick might be really useful for some situations. One other thing I noticed (that may be obvious already) is that the inputs for the assists seem to be handled independently from the rest of the inputs as far as the order in the input buffer- the "5B > 6D > 214B" sequence above can also be done with "5B > 214B > 4D" so long as the 4D is pressed before the animation for 214B begins (or maybe just during the active frames of 5B. It's hard to say).
TheTZA Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) Been relaxing too much this weekend (and getting blown up in SFXT -__-), Ill be grinding it out tomorrow! This is all I found today.. Uhrawn/Camyu 7,614 dmg, 1 meter, corner only (for throw) Edit: seems like the dmg goes up +1,000 if I take out the first hit and start with 2B. Not bad. Edited September 3, 2012 by TheTZA
toanenadiz Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I like Sasara. She has been the only person so far where I was able to pull off a mid-combo 623C with Chizuru and continue to combo after it (outside of her slaughter mode). Hopefully I find some universal combo against the entire cast that let's me do 623C in the middle of the combo with Chizuru.
SolxBaiken Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Hopefully I'll have my capture equipment next week or so = A= and you guys should really lock yourself and the CPU to Emotion Neutral, it's good to have the base Offense and Defense values (that's what I did for all my chombos, and yay for War Cry stacking on top of Emotion High!)
toanenadiz Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Is there any detailed information about how the emotion system works yet? Is it based on the amount of time you are being on the offensive or is there some kind of hidden meter and each move gives a different meter (or whatever unit that you want to call it) for emotion? I have a few combos that seem to always guarantee that I will end up in emotion high after they end but I haven't tested it out in an actual match yet. I lock myself to emotion neutral, reset and then remove the emotion neutral lock and then test it and I always end up in emotion high after it. It would be nice to know if that is something I could consistently rely on or not.
SolxBaiken Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) Your activity is what alters the Emotions: - Walking back/back dashing will result in Low (this includes any special movements like Sasara's Back Air Dash and Touka's A ver of Hayate) - Complete inactivity will result in Low (this is actually based on the last taken action, if 1P back dashes and both players remain inactive, only 1P will receive the penalty and vice-versa, however if the same action is taken at the same time-like both of you back dashing-, nothing occurs as the game is still at "neutral") - Blocking will result in Low (you can prevent this by performing Impact Guards and Resist Smashes, however they only result in preventing further loss and will lock you at your current status, so for multi-hitting attacks/block strings you need to IG each strike. On that matter I never really bothered with IBing in other games cause it felt like a more advance tactic for getting the upper edge, but in AP it's pretty fundamental since resulting in Emotion Low makes you more susceptible to Guard Crushes, but IG feels very lenient, there's a pretty big window and you can "mash" it while in block stun) - Attacking (including calling your Partner) will result in High - Walking forward/front dash will result in High I think that's pretty much it, simple but effective, also the values at which various actions increase/decrease is kind of sporadic, so it would be troublesome to properly chart it, although even if you find a setup that results in High, realize that there are many different variables that can affect in actual play (like how far down you were before initiating the combo, where were you on screen, etc). That's why it's best to know the base damage both on both players having Neutral that way if in the heat of battle you see yourself in High during the combo you know it will net you more, and if the opponent is in Low while getting hit, you know it's gonna be even more devastating) Edited September 3, 2012 by SolxBaiken
toanenadiz Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 So it's sporadic. Thanks. The other variables aren't that important since it is something I would account for when knowing if this combo would result in high. Labrys's axe gauge is reminiscent of this emotion system so it wouldn't be that tough to calculate how close you are to high/low emotion if the values were consistent.
SolxBaiken Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Oh also keep in mind Guts kicks in immediately at less than 10k HP (1/2 life, when the health bar is yellow) somebody come fight me :<
TheTZA Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 I tried it in versus mode vs CPU and it seems that my 222a+b super with Arawn makes me horny (high emotion) immediately.
SolxBaiken Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 It's apart of the power up's affect ; -; Battle Demon + Devilish Charm is what makes Arawn such an offensive monster D:

toanenadiz Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 All of these other assists let me get into Slaughter mode easily with Chizuru but I still can't find a safe way to do it from my main assist. Maybe I am over thinking this...it can't be this tough.
Keo-bas Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 IG feels very lenient, there's a pretty big window and you can "mash" it while in block stun) Oh I can get into this. Seem I will be able to utilize my Instant block/ just defend techniques after all.
RagnellBlue Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Lolnetplay. Decided to record a match, though it's rather sloppy. I've come to realize that I hate this match up with a passion.
SolxBaiken Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 Ragnel, why you P.Slot room so I can't join :<
RagnellBlue Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I honestly didn't expect anyone else to be online at the time. I'll be sure to leave some space open next time. :D I may play some more in a little bit, actually.
SolxBaiken Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 I'll probably shower then stay on until I drop = A= I just want to play some real games, I've spent over 8hrs in training mode today...and I just don't want to look at it anymore, lol
RagnellBlue Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I need to spend more time in the lab myself, but more matches can never hurt. I'll be playing some more matches in 15 minutes~
