Ugh, wtf did I just read...my head...

Though I am interested in what possible projects they have under wraps. And yeah, ARC did just kinda dominate the fighting scene. If only there were an indie platform, needs more MariBato~

- To celebrate the release of arcade version they would want to have a guest character from Skullgirls. They would like to draw the sprites by themselves to show "What moƩ truly is!"

Well... that got a bit less nifty...

- They say it's frustrating that is kind a seems like Arc System Works is the only company creating fighting games.

ArcSys #1, Capcom dead.

To be honest, any deal French Bread makes with Lab Zero should be mutual; if French Bread can put a Skullgirls character in UNI then Lab Zero should get to put Sion/Eltnum into Skullgirls. It's only fair.

You know what would be rad? If everyone put every character into every game ever.

I honestly couldn't picture a Skullgirls character in this game. I have a feeling that if French Bread actually would go through with that they would probably pick someone like Filia or Valentine. I would like to see Double in UNIB though.

On the flipside I can't picture Sion in Skullgirls either.

Pre-Exe:Late Yuzuriha in Skullgirls would make sense right...?

I'm joking, I'm joking

Thanks for posting the tidbits from the article Sourenga, saved me the trouble of completely reading it through google translate. Though, 2 other things I remember noticing from the article are

- To talk a bit about Guard Thurst. The way Guard Thrust/Guard Cancel is designed is different from other games. In other games, it's mostly useful for people at a disadvantage. Because Guard Thrust has the alternative resource cost of consuming the GRD Vorpal state in this game, it also rewards people who are playing well overall.

- Think they mention looking into Steam release after console release near the end of the article. Steam release was already known but it's good to know when to expect news on it time wise, even though I personally am not interested in the Steam release. More interested in a localization and possibly a full fledged story mode.

Pretty good article. The shift to emphasis on grounded battle is probably the most interesting change for me as well as adding incentive to do different combos from weak or strong attack starters. An SG character sounds interesting. I'm particularly interesting in seeing this "What moe really is" art style direction. The only problem I see with this is we currently have 9 great characters in SG but only 1 would be able to take the spot :P

I don't necessarily agree with them that a kickstarter wouldn't be helpful to them. The game itself has the art to catch people's eye and Exe: Late fixes a lot of the gameplay issues that turned people off. It really comes down to the angle they would take. I think if they follow Yatagarsu's approach and have a kickstarter to fund speeding up console release, steam release and localization and add some stretch goals for GGPO, story mode and a variety of other online and offline features, then it would be pretty successful so long as they market/advertise it well here in the west. The tidbits on the Japanese view on kickstarters was interesting though.

Define fair. Allowing French Bread to put a SG character in their game might be desirable to get more exposure in Japan, especially if they do it around the time of the SG arcade release like the article mentions. But to put a UNI character might not be desirable because 1) Currently, Lab Zero doesn't have funds to do anything but the IGG stuff and 2) They have the 28 other characters who didn't get voted to be the 3rd and 4th DLC character in the IGG Campaign to make. Other than that though, I think it would've been a good idea and I doubt French Bread would have mind seeing one of their characters in SG.

I think Exe:Late has ended up somewhere between King of Fighters (shorthopping), BBCP (low damage combos, at least at the start of the game's life), and Marvel (using meter/chain-shift to make shit safe). Initially I was pretty miffed about chain shift still being kinda retarded in that you can just cancel into it on whiff after a projectile, do it after some unsafe special to make it safe, or just during a hole in a blockstring, all the while gaining meter. Then I realized that some if not all characters really need it because they'd be garbage otherwise and eventually someone who's blocking for a long time can reap the reward via the GRD bar, resulting in an exciting change in momentum without being overpowered (even with meter, the damage you get isn't all that high, for now).

I was really pleased about that Melty Blood HD answer though. I'd love to see an HD sprite of new-style Arcueid. Hopefully whenever they get around to making that game, they can preserve the fluidity of the animation and gameplay that they've perfected in current code.

MB HD cannot have the new designs. I don't want to think about playing Akiha in that horrible new outfit. I will be one sad man. ;_;

Article on 4Gamer says that:

ć‚¢ć‚«ćƒ„ć‚ćÆļ¼Œć¾ćšCPUå°‚ē”Øć‚ćƒ£ćƒ©ćØ恗恦ē™»å “怂ēØ¼åƒå¾Œć—ć°ć‚‰ćć™ć‚‹ćØļ¼Œć‚·ćƒ³ć‚°ćƒ«ćƒ—ćƒ¬ć‚¤ę™‚ć«ä¹±å…„ć—ć¦ćć‚‹ć‚ˆć†ć«ćŖć‚‹ćØć„ć†ć€‚ć‚‚ć”ć‚ć‚“ļ¼Œćƒ—ćƒ¬ć‚¤ć‚¢ćƒ–ćƒ«ć‚ćƒ£ćƒ©ć‚Æć‚æćƒ¼ćØć—ć¦ć‚‚č§£ē¦ć•ć‚Œć‚‹äŗˆå®šćØ恮恓ćØć ćŒā€¦ā€¦
"First, Akatsuki will appear as CPU-only character. After the game has been operating for a while, it is made so that he'll interrupt your single playing. Of course, he'll also planned to appear as playable but..."

Meaning it's pretty much the same as how Eltnum worked when she appeared in UNI. Someday we get a lot of Twitter posts from Japan and video in NicoNico how that one day a character has appeared into the game. But yeah, pretty much means it takes at least a month before see Akatsuki in action...

Guess I might be one of the few that though UNIB was like a Japanese-ish version of SG in a way.

I like what I'm hearing though in that article. I'm glad with the direction UNIB is going regarding gameplay. It being less combo-based and more footsie based with crazy moves was something I preferred. Gives it a bit more variety since there are a lot of combo-heavy games for me to play at the moment.

En-Eins colors for Akatsuki? Neat-o. Haven't gone through all of them yet so I'm not sure if there's any more reference alt colors...

Somehow, I feel like that's gonna get patched just because it runs the clock too much/is too boring to watch.

The damage is actually reasonable.

Neither, I think. He's setting a gem every time, and for some reason, it auto-explodes -- at least, that's what it looks like based on Vatista's sprite.

Posted

i believe since 1.03 there's a limit of how many explosion orbs vatista can use in a combo (5, the next one's don't explode). So i'm guessing this is a bug...no idea how easy/hard it's to trigger. Even if it don't take long to end (10 in-game units of time?) and don't do too much damange (3k, 4k if you use meter)...i still hope it's fixed.

I should feel happy that there's a new character by but I still can't get over my massive confusion, lol.

So apparently if they end up doing another guest character after Akatsuki, they hope for it to be a Skullgirls character.

This is actually interesting. I wonder who they want?

It's worth noticing that all those screenshots on 4Gamer have version 2.01 listed at the bottom...

- There wasn't really a classic protagonist-like character, so Akatsuki was a perfect guy for them.

- Subtle Style, themselves drew all the HD sprites for Akatsuki perfectly without any instructions from Narita. It saved apparently a lot of time from the production of game...

? Hyde? -_-

And that's really cool of Subtle Style to do that.

Posted

I think the main thing for Hyde is the fact that he's just sort of "that one guy". Insulator has a lot of relevance, Hyde not so much. In terms of characters, i'd say in terms of playable characters, importance goes like this (from most to least): Hilda, Gordeau, Vatista, Linne, Orie, Waldstein, Hyde, Seth, Carmine, Merkava, Yuzuriha, Eltnum

I don't know Chaos's story so I can't place him.
