SilentFate Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 I went to Foonzo a couple of weeks ago and I was very surprised at what they had done to the establishment; all the stand up arcade cabinets are pretty much non existant and replaced with sit down cabinets that are frankly unplayable. It's quite unfortunate this is the decision they decided to make as I firmly believe that it was the regular's and each respective scene that kept Foonzo going when they were in financial difficulties or just could not attract new customers.  They are starting to move on from the fighting game bar stigma they had to a more actual 'Bar' where there are tables in the middle of the room and a few couches for groups of people and no real cabinets to speak of. It is my belief that both these demographics (the hardcore fighting game enthusiasts as well as the casual's who would not necessarily play on the cabinet) make up Foonzo the brand / establishment. I started going to Foonzo around a year ago and found a place that i absolutely adored, pretty much video games + alcohol is a pretty damn good combination; along with people who just absolutely love fighting games. to see it very suddenly shift like this, with far less emphasis on the hardcore fighting game crowd is definitely a tough blow to take. Also knowing a lot of the staff I knew and met at Foonzo have moved on seems like Foonzo is going an entirely new direction (Kirbster)  UMAD 2014 was absolutely amazing at Foonzo and I will never forget it; I can still see myself going to Foonzo once in a while but its clear they have chosen the demographic they want to cater to: with their menu being constantly changed to be more "Bar" like (removing dumplings and bubble tea and etc) as well as the complete remodel of the cabinets and infrastructure itself. It seems like a good time to finally be more apart of the scene as UMAD 2014 was my first ever tournament and i absolutely adored it.  If you guys eventually do find a new HQ or what not ill definitely see if I can come by for some casuals or something. I wish all the best for Foonzo regardless of the choices they have made. Hype for GGXRD and P4A Ultramax!!Â
Brice Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I am raising this thread from it's slumber (ok it's just 5 days...) Â So who's going to Otakuthon this weekend? Â I'll be there rather early on friday so I can get a good first place on the dealer's room line (ok I know staff have 30 minutes before everyone else in the room but whatev... yo Air you got me right? *top player dance*) Â All I'm looking for is a doujin/pr0n seller. Everythign else will probably not be on my to-buy list. Â Also crossing my fingers so that the gaming room stop it's tendancy to get shittier every year.

Im going to try and get my badge Thursday and go straight to the dealers line. Save a spot for us if I get there before you.
ReynTime180 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I am also getting my badge in Thursday. Are we (by we i mean air) setting up a UNIB tourney for whatever day? And when is the BB tourney?
AirMaster Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 yo Air you got me right? *top player dance* No, I'm afraid I don't. Â UNIEL and BB are on friday 7pm. Registration starts as soon as the venue opens, I guess.
oDHAOSo Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 What's the dealer's line? I don't remember seeing lines into the merchant's area
Bibiquadium Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 What time and where, never went to Otakuthon before. We could provably regroup there
Brice Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Well getting your badge on a thursday is what I usually do to not get screwed on friday. Â Usually there's 2 lines friday just before it opens. The line to get to the actual con aka panels, gaming room, activities and whatever and another line (it's been on a wall on one side of the registration room (the big concrete one) for the past two? years now) that leads directly to the dealer's room. I try to get there early but not too much since i'm not THAT eager to run inside. Just want to have enough space to power walk everywhere and spot the good stuff.
DerQ Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I think last year I had to wait an hour to get my badge last year. Woop woop  I don't know if I'll come and chill at the hotel, since you guys are most likely gonna get out of the venue pretty late. Not super interested in coming and hanging around until 4 am or leave early.
oDHAOSo Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 What kind of things sell out if you're not one of the first into the dealer's area?
raiyan Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 the most popular manga, popular figures, and popular anime. so if you have not guessed, its mostly the "omg attack on titan so good, give me that sword art online." so we are safe, even if a little late.Â
ReynTime180 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 And even at that, the dealers are still going to have lots of the popular stuff cause it sells well
ReynTime180 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Hey guys, what was that (I think it was a pho place) we went to during beerfest?
DerQ Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Hey guys, what was that (I think it was a pho place) we went to during beerfest? Â pho cali? w/e we're next to china town
