Middle Tennessee Needs Gaming! Monthly Versus Tourneys - Antioch, TN

This weekend was fantastic! I'm back home now, so it's time for full shout outs:

- Phil, Kyle, Tad, Klein, and all the Guilty Gear oldheads and newbloods that showed up. The Guilty Gear tourney was easily my favorite part of the event; both the casuals and tournaments were crazy hype. May 6P > combo > stun > IK and Phil doing basically unblockable oki with Millia were just two of the many highlights, and I was really happy with how I played and placing 4th in the tourney! I feel I've still got a ways to go on the journey to A.B.A. enlightenment, but this weekend I hiked a few more steps up that mountain. Thanks for the matchup experience and general advice, and watch out for those burst throws ;P Being able to once again play with a few of the top Guilty Gear players who I look up to and respect, and feeling as though I've made them proud, is truly great. Once the game releases, I'm going to strive to ensure my A.B.A. upholds the tradition of handing out dirty south ass whoopings! PARACELSUS HUNGERS FOR BLOOD, ON OCT. 24TH IT SHALL BE SATED! LET'S GO!

- Nashville Blake and Travis for letting Derrell, Huntsville Blake, and I crash at their place. Awesome games in SF4AE2012 and P4A were had, and Limitless is an excellent movie. Reminiscing and cracking FFXI-related jokes with Blake while watching Sword Art Online was too good, and also thanks to Travis for the quality coffee and intellectual late night conversation as well as Alex for the projector-displayed SF4 matches and fine tobacco discussion. Just chilling with you guys was as fun as the tournament, we definitely need to road trip up there and hang more! Maybe then Blake will be old enough to drink, hahaha.

- Derrell and Blake for splitting gas costs and for the great carpool discussions on Guilty Gear, the FGC, rules to live by, and a bunch of other stuff. Bad games to shady Deliverance-style gas station bathrooms and Chevron/Texaco for not existing north of Huntsville, lol.

- Shout outs to my Huntsville bros and broette, glad y'all could make it! Thanks Sara for teaching me the history of Game Galaxy!

- GGs to the P4A crowd! Being an Alabama spy for the 5v5 was fun, and the casuals I had with Star (Mitsuru/Labrys chess matches were so tense!), Boomcube (fucking Caesar!), Tad, and others were great too. You guys made me realize P4A matches CAN be fun and have inspired me to take the game more seriously. Shout outs to Urichinan for having a ridiculous Shadow Labrys and Ivysaur for being a T-1000.

- Milln for organizing the spontaneous GGAC tourney. Without your help, we would have been limited to casuals; thanks for running the brackets!

- Whoever brought the stream/recording equipment. Not sure whose gear it was, but thanks for helping the southeast share our scene! Also, thanks to the stream commentators! Sorry for not letting you in on the Labrys/Shadow Labrys joke beforehand, we thought it would be funnier if we put you on the spot, lol.

- Lastly, many thanks and much respect to Jason and Game Galaxy Arcade for hosting. The entire event was better than I had anticipated, even though I went in with high expectations to begin with! Your collection is godly, thanks for keeping the arcade dream alive for us enthusiasts! I look forward to supporting your future events!

I'll be uploading pics later tonight or tomorrow. GGs everyone! Next stop: Birmingham's monthly!

I had a great time this weekend, so I suppose I should make some shout outs as well:

Milln - Thanks for organizing the tourney, being an awesome Yosuke, and letting me pass out in your room. Also thanks for pushing me to shell out that $10. Money well spent. I had a blast, and the tourney made me realize that I wasn't absolutely terrible at P4A. Stay awesome, man. P.S.: If you happen to find a blue flip-phone somewhere, please tell me.

Jackie - It was great meeting you. Thanks for the ride to and from. You're an awesome person to hang out with, and I had a lot of fun playing around on the arcade games with you. You never did show me the power of your Yu, though. We really need to get the Cookeville people together sometime. Seriously. I forgot that I lost my phone over the weekend when I said "I'll text you," so yeah...

Wesley - You may not have played in the tournament, but I hope you had some fun with our casuals. Constant persona breaking due to giant baseball bats must get frustrating, I'm sure. Watching you mess around with Faust was also pretty entertaining.

Papstr - You manage to be even more of a scumbag with Teddie than I am, and you don't even know my unblockable resets or corner combos. You would be an unbearable opponent, but you've bearly even clawed the surface of scumbear tech. Also I went back to the stream just to watch you instant kill BoomBox. I can't believe I missed that. Hilarious.

ZomB - Thanks for the casuals. You showed me just how stupid a high-level Chie is. We may have not gotten our soku matches, but I figured P4A was better for that night. Stay amazing at these things.

Boombox - Thank you very much for the casuals. They made me realize I definitely need to work on my pressure. Freaking 2A pokes... :P

Astaroth - Thanks for bodying me in the tournament, superman grabbing as soon as I forget that's a thing you can do. I'm proud to say I wasn't completely free to you, which gave me a huge confidence boost during the tourney. I'll try to come up with even more enraging Teddie tech so that you have a reason to stay mad at the character.

That one Abel player - Thanks for teaching me how to play SF4AE a bit, and for teaching me how to cheat the shoryuken motion on a stick.

Klein - Thanks for beating up on Papstr for me in SF and for inadvertently teaching me a bit about GG.

And thanks to anyone I may have forgotten to mention. KoB was great, and I'm glad to have gotten a chance to meet all of you.

Shout Outs (never done this before, lol >_>):

Bane: Real Teddie nightmare. You are one of those players that remind me how bad my yomi and defensive game is. :P Hope you can continue to kick my teeth in so I can finally get some of this fundamental stuff down.

Papstr: *insert bear pun here* Akatsuke needs to be a thing. that game is too much fun.

Jackie: Yu gotta get that Chie matchup down. DP usa represent!

Klein: Thanks for teaching me the basic stuff on GG. Faust mirrors are insane. I was only lukewarm interested about the upcoming GG release, but at this point I absolutely want the game. Next tournament expect a crappy Faust player coming in with a paper bag on his head ready for action(and/or trollin)

Milln: I'm sure you weren't playing your best in the casuals we played, but I'm glad I've improved at least enough to get in one or two victories. Be sure to body me in the next P4A tournament (I'll sign up next time, I promise!). @KOF if I realized the scene was dying I would have definitely signed up. I'm still very much interested in the game, but I took a break from it to learn P4A and was totally expecting to go 0-4 if I entered it in KoB. I'm going to continue playing it, even if it melts down to a bunch of casuals (which we should play sometime), and I sincerely hope that you give it one more shot for the roster.

Totalninja (not sure if you are even on dustloop): Strange coincidence on the player names, surprised to learn there were 2 ninjas here. Glad we could meet up again, and actually got a chance to play, I have my work set out on the labyrs matchup. :P

The other Labyrs player I fought (sorry I don't remember your name!): GG's man. It was a nice break playing against something other then Bane's teddie. Despite the snowbally nature of the Slab v Lab matchup, I still enjoyed it, and hope we get the opportunity to fight again next time.

To the list of players I didn't get a chance to play because my social skills suck/ or not enough time/ whatever: Even if I didn't get the variety of matches I would have like, I feel like I learned much just by watching this tournament. There are still of slew of players I'd like to try my hand against (Astaroth, Star, Volpe, Woz and a few others I can't think to name), but I'm sure I'll get the opportunity to eventually. It's always satisfying to be able to come to these things to find that there is an actually a scene for fighting games in Tennessee. If anyone wanted some Slab matchup experience (not as good as Woz, but I try :P), feel free to ask!

They said I would hate fighting Jackie. I didn't believe them. I wanted to play him. They said, "No you idiot!" I didn't listen to them.

I was wrong ;-;

DP too strong

Man, King of Bling absolutely consumed all of my energy.

Since Monday I've been coming home and just crashing. I feel better, today, so I'll finally get results and a semi-reliable bracket image up. Jason cut the power Saturday night and it fudged up the auto-save, so results of first/second/third matches may be incorrect, but those who placed will be accurate so no worries there.

For those that don't already know, my 360 broke(it freezes constantly) so now I'm out a 360, unfortunately.

However, some sweet games released on PSN recently: Odin Sphere with fixed slowdown, Virtua On, Tokyo Jungle and a bunch more. King of Fighters is also free right now for Playstation Plus members.

I'll post up results tonight, until then keep jammin', and let's set up our first gathering, yeah? I've got some news that I'm talking over with Jason, Jackie already knows about it, that I'll post another day, too.

GGs to all at KotB. I had a blast, and it's always good seeing/playing you guys. I was like Milln. It took me 3 days to feel rested from it.

Also, I have Milln's real first and last name. The bidding will start at $50.

OKAY GUYS.

So, something has happened that i've texted a few of you about and that forces my hand on the news that I spoke of ("So, you made an announcement of announcement, Milln?") earlier. There's a pretty sweet new venue in Murfreesboro called Kaos Theory that offers By-The-Hour gaming and is a venue for nightly/weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly/anytimely tournaments. They have twenty (20) HD setups, a 25 foot projector screen that displays whatever is on setup 1, a stream, 2 pool tables, and an Air Hockey/Ping Pong table. They also have an MvC1 cabinet and a Tekken Tag Tournament 1 cabinet. For refreshments, they have a legitimate cafe that offers lots and lots of things, meal deals, cheesecake, and drinks such as Vitamin Water, orange soda, and other beverages. The staff here is very chill, and you already met one of the guys, he was on Tennessee Team 2, his name is Anne Frank. I took thirty or so pictures and a video.

THE POINT IS: This is an option for a new venue. BEFORE ANYONE JUMPS ON ME:

NO.

I AM NOT DROPPING JASON SIMPLY BECAUSE THIS IS A SHINY NEW PLACE.

I HAVE NO REASON TO.

JASON IS A BALLER.

From the talks that i've had, we're actually doing a sort of trifecta of Game Galaxy, Kaos Theory, and Game Trader of Murfreesboro. Hopefully that actually comes to fruition.

Which lets me segue into this: ============== Guilty Gear Launch Party on Wednesday at Kaos Theory ===============

Ten bucks per head nets us unlimited play of all Arc sys/Aksys games such as BlazBlue, Persona, and most importantly: Guilty Gear Until 3am. With Food and 25 foot projector screens. And streams. And comfy chairs. And pool. and.

Oh.

They also serve alcohol.

Jus' sayin'. *looks straight at Tad and Phil*

So do yourself a favor, show up on Wednesday sometime, play games, hang out with me and the gang, and let the people of Kaos Theory know about us. They've already talked to me, i've already talked to them. They're interested in our community. They want us to grow and I want to help them grow. We'll probably be using their venue more than a few times.

Hey Milln, if you want a new 360 I can get you one for about 70ish with my discount at work. Just let me know. I totally ran into jackie through random on XBL tonight.

Looks like a pretty cool venue. I wonder if the t.v.'s are suited for fighting games though.

I think having multiple venues is great for getting more people to come out to events. Hosting a tourney in murfreesboro might bring out people who live in the area but don't know about Game Galaxy, and it might bring people from neighboring cities who were less likely to make the drive to nashville.

I tested them myself with Street Fighter training mode, Persona 4 training mode, and a 30+ versus set in Persona 4. I can't detect any lag. I can falling j.D even closer to the ground than I can on my plasma in my room. They seem fine.

DRINKING DIET MOUNTAIN DEW. WHY IS THAT EVEN A THING. DID YOU SWISH THAT, TOO? HAVE I CALLED YOU OUT ON THAT BEFORE? I swear I have. Why do you swish soda. Seriously.

Stop drinking Diet Mountain Dew. There's no point in drinking "diet" soda.

wait they are getting a +R cab?

No, sir. They are getting it on console.

Live Baste Burt on stream + SKD calling me a god in the comments = I can die happy.

But I <3 Diet Mountain Dew. :< It's the source of all my gimmicks.

I think he was more referring to the fact that you said people would be playing AC+R there on Wednesday, when the GG releasing next week is just AC+ with the R patch coming at a later date.

GG is delayed until November 1st for PSN.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOxN

I need the head start anyway. Lololololol. Sorry to hear that though, all you PS3 peeps. STAY VIGILANT IN YOUR WAITS.

Also, finally getting around to uploading these Guilty Gear matches. Sorry as always for the wait.

Kyle, do you think you can get me the names of your players who showed up for Guilty Gear and their mains? I don't have brackets to cross-reference for names yet, and just want to make sure I label them correctly in the videos.

And let me know what you want to be called in videos if what's displayed in the description isn't what you want, Klein/Tad/Phil/Kyle/everyone else.

Brackets

1. Ivysaur (Chie)

2. ZomB (Chie)

3. DAI | Urichinan (S.labs)

4. Star (Misturu)

5. 99Olives (Naoto)

12. FLESHPOUNDER (Aigis)

As Kyle has written. This is actually the best I have. I don't have accurate brackets so I can't have accurate results. Skeletal Minion either tied for 12th or tied for 7th. Every other placing I don't have the accuracy for, and i'm not just going to write anybody in without knowing for sure.

Edit: F Shoutouts this time. Everyone got personal shoutouts in person and everyone knows I respect and love them. You guys are my family. <3 A million thank you's to Kyle, Fleshpounder, Yeti Ghetto Slang, Kirk, ZomB, Ivysaur, Skeletal Minion, Zega, Sara, Some Brown Kid, Roach King, and every other out of stater that I spoke with. You all are the best.

Awesome. Perfect timing. I'll cross-reference this and see if I can't figure out who's who. Let me know if you notice a mistake, guys.

F Shoutouts this time.

Yeah, same here. I don't mean to be rude- I always want to show my appreciation to everyone who came out, and whenever I make shoutouts, I try to include everyone who made it. But there were just way too many people to single out this time for shoutouts.

So I just want to say a cumulative "Thank you!" to everyone who competed and otherwise participated. KoB was the most fun I've had with fighting games in a long time. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in a competitive setting again once Guilty Gear comes out for XBL/PSN!
