Tophatmoffet Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I'm going to try my best to make it to this one. Even though my classes start on the 14th.
LastStarSaviour Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Found this video that shows Hazama comboing after SMP:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaH9zBurFp8&t=12m48s Yeah the opponent may not have attempted to tech...but I doubt it since almost every hazama player ever drops a jayoku combo randomly no matter how many times they practice it so bullet was probably mashing tech hoping the hazama would drop it. If it is true then I guess Overdrive doesn't affect SMP, and maybe SMP isn't the same in this game as in other arcsys games. Or maybe supers have a different type of SMP? Maybe the Bullet player wasn't holding the button to tech (maybe to avoid possible tech traps, resets, etc...like how you would in P4U) and maybe there is a specific frame window you need in order to tech SMP combos (one that you wouldn't normally miss as you'd be holding the button). Also, the reason they may not have been able to tech later in the combo is due to the fact that the Hazama player ended his combo with Hungry Coils (seeing as it's a command grab that can't go purple like say, Bang's). Thus he was able to squeeze out that last, huge chunk of damage to confirm the kill. I know in Extend there are plenty of times where Hazama can end his combos with Hungry Coils in situations where your opponent would've been able to tech had you have imputted another normal or special.
Jackie Chandler Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I'm sorry, Jackie, but I think Papstr has been the true Chandler from the shadows now No joke, I'm always impressed with Papstr's gimmicky bullshit in Guilty Gear. I'm gonna have to step up my game to win Chandler status in that game over him. :[ Found this video that shows Hazama comboing after SMP:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaH9zBurFp8&t=12m48s Good find, that just about confirms things for me. Maybe the Bullet player wasn't holding the button to tech (maybe to avoid possible tech traps, resets, etc...like how you would in P4U) and maybe there is a specific frame window you need in order to tech SMP combos (one that you wouldn't normally miss as you'd be holding the button). Thus he was able to squeeze out that last, huge chunk of damage to confirm the kill. I know in Extend there are plenty of times where Hazama can end his combos with Hungry Coils in situations where your opponent would've been able to tech had you have imputted another normal or special. I sincerely doubt it. The Bullet player had no reason not to be holding tech, especially when it meant losing the round otherwise. He also had plenty of time to start holding/mashing because of the second Jayoku's Super Flash, so I'd find it hard to believe he couldn't react to it by pressing a single button (assuming the tech window might be arbitrarily tight). We've established that the reason the combo counter stays red after SMP is because any combo after it factors in proration/techable time as normal. The only thing we've ever had left to question is if combos that invoke SMP are techable the moment it's triggered- and if I might say so, I think the video Naimat provided is crucial evidence that it isn't. That Bullet player had a million years to tech in the air and save himself, and he had to know the next hit from whatever the Hazama chose would kill him. If he could have teched, I don't see any logical reason why he wouldn't have.
LastStarSaviour Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 If he could have teched, I don't see any logical reason why he wouldn't have. Could've just been free, lol. Jk
Jackie Chandler Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 He won the first set, so he can't be THAT free. :P Also, guys, I'm scared. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtHKDsqUzqQ SAFE JUMP INFERNO DIVIDER PUNISHING? WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIT. Oh well, maybe it doesn't work against wake up Carnage Scissor or something. :3
LastStarSaviour Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Jackie, i've been safe-jumping your IDs since 2010 ma nig, where you been at? Isn't that Bullet's DP that she's using to punish the IDs? If so, it seems pretty risky if your opponent just wakes up and blocks and you're without meter. It looks really effective against Tsubaki's DP though. Really swag, nonetheless.
Jackie Chandler Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 The difference is, Bullet's safe jump makes the reversals whiff. That means no Rapid Canceling to make it safe. And I think it's a DP in the same sense as Kanji's D command grab. It has invulnerability on startup, then after that, she grabs the opponent if they're in range. I'm not sure if it's blockable or not, though. If it is, it would definitely be risky to throw it out after a jC like that. If not, I'd hope that the jC connecting (be it on block or hit) would cause the throw to be techable. But this is Bullet we're talking about, so the move may work like Noel's command grab mid-combo. I have no idea.
LastStarSaviour Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) I'm almost certain you can block it. I want to say that almost every command grab in her arsenal is blockable from what i've seen. However, I don't know her entire moveset so I can't really say for sure. I wish Noel had a legit command grab that wasn't combo-fodder, that'd be sweet Edit: Why hasn't my calling Bullet's fire ring "The Red Ring of Death" caught on yet? It's so fitting. Edited January 4, 2013 by LastStarSaviour
Seiki Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) Hungry Coils isn't a command grab. It's a hit grab and thus can be blocked and it's also burstable. No one bursts when they get hit by it because Hazama is too far away to get hit by a burst. I'm thinking maybe Distortions have a different SMP system versus specials and normals since they also have a different combo proration formula than specials and normals since CS1. The formula and the combo proration value of distortions in previous BB games made it so that no matter how prorated a combo was a distortion would do a fixed minimum damage regardless. @Bullet safe jump: Could you neutral tech and grab her? She must have at least a few frames of landing recovery from doing that kick attack. Is this safe jump set up only available in max heat up state? cause in all of the examples he had max heat. And maybe her command grab is like Tager's so it can be thrown lol. Edited January 4, 2013 by Seiki
Urichinan Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I brought up the SMP discussion in the mod chat on Skype not too long ago and the only answer anyone could come up with for why the SMP system has been acting like it has is because it still follows untechable time based on the attack being used. Here are a few examples of why this might be the case: Litchi: Staff 1 > 5B > 3C > Haku > Staff 2 > 5B > 4B > ItsuuA > 6Kote > Haku is immediately techable upon hit (Possibly because it's a regular attack) Bullet: 623C (Wallsplat) > 623C is not teachable (Possibly because it's a grab) Hazama: Houtenjin > Houtenjin is not techable (Possibly because it's a Distortion) It would make sense that certain moves don't allow for the combo to be techable, due to unscaled hitstun. (Like on throws and DD's) Just something to think about, up until now all of the information given to us from players in Japan have stated that SMP attacks are immediately techable upon hit. (The second time, of course) But now it's starting to become questionable. I wish we had the game so all of this could be tested. >_<
Grimstar Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 But gaiz I dont wanna put time into Gear. There's no "mash random specials for teh mix ups" character like Yosuke >:|
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I think most of us still play Persona, too.
Papstr Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I swear, I can never tell whether you guys are praising me or insulting me Regarding Persona, sure, I'll still play it now and again. It's not my main game, but it sure is still fun kinda.
Astaroth136 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Fatal Counter J2C>5C>6C>J2C>5B>6A>6B>J2C>5B>6A>A sledge>5C>6A>Atomic Collider>Spark diagonal>OD>Wheel>Terra Break>Gadget 7452 damage Fucking magnets. Why do they hurt?
Urichinan Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I talked to my parents and I'm officially going to Winter Brawl! Everyone that can should come, it'd be awesome to give TN some rep.
Jackie Chandler Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Gawd, too many things I want to post about at once. I brought up the SMP discussion in the mod chat on Skype not too long ago and the only answer anyone could come up with for why the SMP system has been acting like it has is because it still follows untechable time based on the attack being used. Just something to think about, up until now all of the information given to us from players in Japan have stated that SMP attacks are immediately techable upon hit. (The second time, of course) But now it's starting to become questionable. I wish we had the game so all of this could be tested. >_< Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. It's a confusing subject, so I can understand why the Japanese might be confused about it, too. And I just wish we had the game, period. I want to figure this SMP thing out, but I want to play the effin' game even moar. ;_; I swear, I can never tell whether you guys are praising me or insulting me If anything regarding successful gimmicky bullshit leaves my mouth, it's most definitely praise. :3 I talked to my parents and I'm officially going to Winter Brawl! Everyone that can should come, it'd be awesome to give TN some rep. Congrats! I wish I could go, but gawd damn. There are way too many tournaments for me to afford on a babysitting budget. I've made it my goal to go to both Final Round and Powerup this year, and Kumite is a given since it's replacing MTN this month. I'm pretty sure you guys will have to rep TN at Winter Brawl on your own, but I'll be with you guys in spirit, giving you the urge to do all sorts of impractical shit in the hopes certainty that it'll work! As for EVO, if Blazblue or Persona isn't being played, I honestly won't give a shit about it. There aren't any other games I'd be willing to subject myself to something Mr. Wizard-related for. One more thing, though. There's a student in Chattanooga hosting a P4A tournament on February 2nd. Entry is $5, and those earnings will go towards Child's Play. I'm doubtful that I'll be able to swing both Kumite AND this tournament, especially since they're adjacent weekends. But if you guys can go, you should consider it. Thread's located here. And hopefully we'll see a post or two from the new MTN'r soon. :]
Klein Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Jacki,e I promise to do a double dash cross-up into DoT in honor of you if I go to WB
Seiki Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Klein your beard will grow another inch if you land raw pilebunker, RC, pilebunker, RC, pilebunker for the kill.
Milln Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 @Kumite: Since it's a given that most of you are coming, INVITE PEOPLE! We won't grow as a community, nor will we meet new people if we don't do the footwork of spreading the word. My first "legitimate" tournament was a Kumite and it's how I met both KO and Tad, people I don't know what i'd do without. Great experiences for new people to the scene and those already established. @Winter Brawl: I won't be going unless 3 or more people want to go with me. It's a long drive and I really don't want to make that trip without a full car. @Chattanooga: Oh my god it's DeathNapalm! I love that guy! I think he's one of Grimstar's friends and is recently returning from the same dimension Kain goes whenever he leaves us. I'm not sure if I can swing two Saturdays in a row with my work, though. I'll look into it. @BlazBlue Child's Play: Someone bring it over when it comes out. I'm cool with pressing buttons. @Persona: Persona is awesome. @Fighting Games: IT'S A NEW YEAR. I guess that means i'm supposed to go back to practicing or something... Maaaannn... @AirMech: AirMech is a great game. @Jackie: I'll install your screen protector at Kumite. @ @ symbols: You're useful. @Same Move Proration: I never want to see a combo that focuses on using the same move
ZomB Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 aaaaaaaaaa i hope some of you guys can make the chattanooga tourney. I may not be attending the kumite because there's a local I want to support + that means no one would ride with me. always <3
Klein Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Klein your beard will grow another inch if you land raw pilebunker, RC, pilebunker, RC, pilebunker for the kill. This is happening in a tournament.
Jackie Chandler Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Jacki,e I promise to do a double dash cross-up into DoT in honor of you if I go to WB I hope you'll do it whether you go or not~. :3 Klein your beard will grow another yard if you land raw pilebunker, RC, pilebunker, RC, pilebunker for the kill. Fix'd @Jackie: I'll install your screen protector at Kumite. Wait, you mean it's not already on? I was like "dang, this screen protector's awesome. I can't even tell it's there!" At least now I know why. XD
Astaroth136 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Hey guys. I actually do still exist. I've been jobbing it up as a helpdesk rep, and when I get home, I've been playing Soul Calibur 5. Final Round practice for that game is already underway for me. I'll be playing Marvel too in the coming week for the GG and Kumite tournaments. Hope to see you all at these tournaments!
DeathNapalmx Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Well, kurapu. Just realized I can't go to Kumite. Oh well, guess I'll just watch the archive later. Lol
