Ginseng Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Discuss the Tsubaki vs Bang matchup here. Things to watch out for: 5A 5C overhead Drives Command throw, especially the air version. His cross up kick and use of bumpers. Things you can use: 22D unblockable will beat drives. You can duck under Bang's 6C and do stuff. Throwing will beat out drives.
Eshi Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Bang got nerfed big time but this match-up still feels pretty tough. His 5B and 5A both have longer range than Tsubaki's, and Tsubaki's 5B extends her hittable box pretty far, so it's hard to win a poking war. D nails can be a free pass in and he's still scary once he's close, especially in the corner. Bang Install is still LOLUDIE mode against her, she just doesn't have good tools to deal with it. Overall I'd say it's either even or minor advantage in Bang's favor because Tsubaki's gross now. :D
BatousaiJ Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Bang still has most of the things going for him that still makes him incredibly annoying to deal with. If you knew the match up in CS 1, it hasn't changed that much except for the fact that he isn't as... retarded as he used to be and messing up here and there will not spell immediate doom. A special mention to his double air dash makes picking him off the air quite the hassle and try not to get take his j.236D nails on the ground as that'll open you up for pressure. I haven't had enough matches against good bangs in CS 2 and while he's definitely still very good and scary in the right hands, he's not as silly as he used to be.
Shruikon Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Okay so uh... I'm so, so free to this matchup. I just can't deal with Bang pressure at all. On my end, it just looks like they're mashing out random shit and I don't have an opportunity to punish anything at all or can't catch him 'cause of his superior air movement. So does anyone have any tips at all? Anything we can abuse or moves of his which aren't safe or whatever? Anything is appreciated D:
Fallacy Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Bang is matchup that you kind of have to grind and find your own style for. Thing I do vs bang more than other characters: air throw, 3c, mash 2a. If Bang is going random you can get away with things you normally wouldn't be able to. If he isn't going random then you can play a little more traditionally but you want to still have good movement. You can't let Bang get in for free, but if you can make him waste nails then the matchup gets a lot easier.
Airk Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 As far as I can tell from the way I die in this match, this match is probably about having good air movement, to keep Ban from pinning you down with nails and being able to play stupid crossup games with you. It's rare that Bang is goign to do an 'honest' jump in, so plan your 2Cs accordingly. J.236D>j.214D might be good in this match.
Kiba Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Abuse unblockables on his wakeup when he doesn't have meter. A meaty one renders him useless. His 2D can beat your DP options, so if he gets predictable, throw him into the corner. He can 5A our 6A.
Cooldudenotu Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I'd love to have more insight on this matchup from experienced players. This is one of the matchups I find extremely hard to deal with. Problems I'm having: - It seems he can outpoke me in every situation - Seems like he can get in for free whenever he wants, I try not to attempt a 2c anti air until his nails are gone but a good bang doesn't use them up quickly to keep the threat there - The pressure! - His "super powered up" state (don't know the name) seems like a free round for him whenever he activates this. Maybe I just don't know enough about how the state operates - His wakeup seems really good? Looks like he can do his counter move or his distortion on wakeupe if he has meter. I really don't understand why he would have a counter attack, that attacks itself and is safe on block, seems like the most broken thing about him.

Airk Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I'd love to have more insight on this matchup from experienced players. This is one of the matchups I find extremely hard to deal with. Problems I'm having: - It seems he can outpoke me in every situation He really can't - if you're losing a poking war, it's because your opponent knows his spacing better than you. Bang's 5B is pretty much the same as yours (Aside: I find it lame that Tsubaki's hurtbox extends out to include the wing.) in terms of both how it extends his hitbox and how it comes out. His 5A has a bit better range than your 5A, but pretty similar range to your 2A (which is faster and longer ranged than his 2A, though his hits low). Bang has solid normals, but they're no better than Tsubaki's. - Seems like he can get in for free whenever he wants, I try not to attempt a 2c anti air until his nails are gone but a good bang doesn't use them up quickly to keep the threat there It helps if you don't stay on the ground all the time, but nails have really very, VERY little hitstop or blockstun, which means that a lot of the time if you just mash a 5A/2A, you'll CH Bang as he comes in behind them. You can also DP in this situation. - The pressure! Bang's pressure is definitely mean, and takes some time to get used to. Beating it is as much about figuring out how your opponent plays as anything else, but it's generally recommended to try to CA out. There are also places where you can generally DP him, but I'm not familiar enough with his strings to know when those are. Edit: Here's a good writeup detailing a lot of Bang's capabilities. It gives you a pretty good idea of what he can do when. - His "super powered up" state (don't know the name) seems like a free round for him whenever he activates this. Maybe I just don't know enough about how the state operates Fu-rin-ka-ZAN!!! Uhm. Yeah. Odds are, if Bang is doing this to you and he's not already nearly dead, you're pretty much toast. His mixup is insane in this mode and his damage is very high, and the very fact that he's gotten the 4 seals he needs to activate it means he's already given you a pretty good beatdown. Your best bet here is to try to go offensive - you're not going to block his mixup, so that's pretty much a dead end street, but in this mode he can only barrier block (which means you can run down his barrier) and his dashes have no invulnerability, so it's not completely impossible to get a hit in. - His wakeup seems really good? Looks like he can do his counter move or his distortion on wakeupe if he has meter. His wakeup is good when he has meter, but it's complete garbage otherwise - most of his drives don't have frame 1 guardpoint, and the one that does (6D) is pretty darn slow, so as long as you aren't mindlessly mashing, you're not going to get hit by it if you do a meaty. Also, all guard points are defeated by 22D unblockable, so like Kiba says, abuse this on his wakeup. I really don't understand why he would have a counter attack, that attacks itself and is safe on block, seems like the most broken thing about him. Well, the thing about his drives is that they have funny windows of guard point, and different high/low properties in terms of what they guard point, so they require a fair bit of skill to use effectively.
FACE CLAIMER Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) i decided to learn a little tsubaki today....then for the rest of the night, my pathetic 0 psr tsubaki has only fought a 230 psr bang. NOTHING GAINED i am officially 1 psr after 2 fights now. i know her combos, but once they're done ive only dealt a max of 4500 and i have no strategy for Noel and bang, and sadly, im somehow not finding ANY other characters online....HELP? Cooldudenotu Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 lots of info Thanks a lot ! Sounds like the key to beating bang is to get a knockdown before he has meter and abuse his wakeup. Matchup doesn't seem as hopeless as it did to me before.
Airk Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Huey did a great writeup on Bang in the Ragna forums, and most of the info in it is relevant to us too: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?11660-Ragna-vs-Bang-%28Continuum-Shift-II%29&p=1178881&viewfull=1#post1178881
