Ikagi-chan Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) ;1081651']Episode 6 = Moroha Episode http://j1n.org/GG/GuiltyPodcastEpisode6.mp3 Thanks as usual j1n! Damn, Moroha is a godlike guest and his A.B.A. is just as godlike. I also just want to give you guys super compliments on just how diverse your discussions become. I know this is a Guilty Gear centered podcast, but I really appreciate that you guys go into news and discussions about other games. It really is awesome to hear GG player's takes on the rest of the scene. Keep up the good work gentlemen! I can't wait till the post EVO show when Aaron comes back. EDIT: I don't want to double post, so I'll append a set of questions I want to ask for the show here since I don't know if I'll be able to make the show next Tuesday live. Hopefully you guys can answer some of these, if not the next post-EVO episode, in future episodes. Keep up the good work guys! Anyways, the recent Relius Clover character reveal for BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II Plus has gotten me really thinking about the notion of "clone characters." Some people don't mind them, others really lash out against them, but I just want to know what you guys think about them from two aspects. 1) Historically, we have seen that clone characters have been put in games, particularly in older games, to really help pad the roster. Capcom's done this notably during the Street Fighter Alpha series with their large number of Ryu and Ken clones such as Dan, Evil Ryu, and Sakura. However, even in recent fighting games such as Tekken 6 and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, we see these clone characters return despite the fact that these games don't necessarily need them due to the diverse cast they already have. These clone characters nowadays tend to play in different manner from their originals and offer up unique ways of playing even with the same basic movesets they all share. Do you all think it is a good or bad thing that these sorts of characters are included as part of the rosters in this modern era of fighting games where character diversity is becoming more and more in demand? 2) On a similar note, at what point do you all think that two (or more) characters become different enough that they can be considered unique? In Guilty Gear for example we have two sets of characters who players at first glance would think are clones (Sol Badguy/Order-Sol and Ky Kiske/Robo-Ky), but it's pretty much universally agreed that despite some similarities between movesets, these characters play so significantly differently from one another that they aren't clones. However, look at another set of clone characters in another game, say Yun and Yang in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike or SSFIV:AE (pick your poison). Despite the fact that (in my opinion) these characters are about as different in movesets, combos, and gameplay style as ever seen in a Capcom fighter, many people, even people who are very intimate with the game would say these are clone characters. What does Guilty Gear do with their "clones" that make them so special and unique? 3) This question isn't related to clone characters, but it's still related to characters in a Guilty Gear vs. BlazBlue sense. One of the things I've heard you lot say at least once is that compared to Guilty Gear, BlazBlue characters feel extremely limited and unlike Guilty Gear characters, you can really only play a BlazBlue character in one manner with fairly little variance between players using the same character. This more or less is true depending on how you look at it, but something that I feel is that the BlazBlue cast as a whole is on a character-by-character basis, far more unique in terms of gameplay mechanics and playstyle variety (certainly not aesthetically though) than Guilty Gear on a character-by-character basis, particularly if you look at some of the more veteran members of the Guilty Gear cast. So, I guess what I want to ask is, do you all think that character linearity is proportional to how different the developers intentionally create characters? Or is the linearity of BlazBlue characters compared to the Guilty Gear cast due to some hidden reason deep within the game engine? Gosh, this turned out to be a long post. Sorry guys! j1n[kr] Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 http://j1n.org/GG/GuiltyPodcastEpisode7.mp3 enjoy!
replicantTAPPA Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Just wanted to say thanks for the show and uploading the mp3's, as a new Guilty Gear player it's great to go back and listen as I learn the game, actually understand some of the things you guys are talking about now. Really enjoy the character talk, again being new to the game I spend all my time learning the mechanics and Zappa, I have no idea what other characters do. Seth's explanation of A.B.A last week was great.
zaex Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) Thanks Jin! Really loving the podcast! Also, if it's not too much trouble, anyone with lots of background noise, mute your mic when you're not talking, pretty please. (We do the same thing with Skype meetings here at work) Edited August 3, 2011 by zaex
Klaige Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Thanks Jin! Really loving the podcast! Also, if it's not too much trouble, anyone with lots of background noise, mute your mic when you're not talking, pretty please. (We do the same thing with Skype meetings here at work) We definitely apologize for the tech issues last night. Both AKA and Bozac were not at their homes last night so we had to work with some untested equipment and situations. We'll continue to try and improve the quality each week. Sometimes skype just doesn't like to get along and those nights will happen, but we'll hopefully clean up some of the things we can prevent like background noise. Glad you are digging the podcast! We all really enjoy doing it.
zaex Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) Also, fucking give Slash or Accent Core on PSN/Live already, Arc. This podcast is making me feel so nostalgic, but here in NL there is noone who plays GG any more. Being able to play online would be so cool. Better yet, put a version on PSN/Live that has BOTH Slash AND Accent Core! Edited August 3, 2011 by zaex
Amadeus46Art Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Try out the NullDC zaex: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?9940-GGXX-Accent-Core-now-%28actually%29-playable-online! Note, it might not run on all computers, I know some friends have issues with their processor or their computer just can't run it well. Still, if you can, there's some online for you.
Ikagi-chan Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Thanks a million for taking my questions guys! Your thoughts were really cool and exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for. I'll just throw out that despite all technical difficulties, the show still went on surprisingly well. You guys just get better every week when stuff goes wrong, doing things impromptu. Man, every week you guys just talk about more and more great people who I would absolutely love to see on the show. I personally think it'd be absolutely great to see Latif back on the show to talk about his EVO performance. This may be a GG centered podcast, but even though he won it for BlazBlue, Spark would be a great guest to have on in my opinion. I hope you guys have success in bringing Ky-Sama and Sol-Bumguy in the future. I personally think that some of the best and most insightful guests on these kinds of podcasts are tournament organizers and their experiences with running tournaments and dealing with the community. Man, I used to be like M.Bison in the Street Fighter movie where Tuesdays were always pretty damn normal, but this podcast makes me realize every week that Tuesday can't come soon enough. Keep up the good work gentlemen!
zaex Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) Most vids I find date back to 2010. Could you guys address where to find videos and stuff? I kind of dropped GG when AC came out, but I want to get back into it, but all my characters changed loads (Baiken, Millia and Bridget), but it's hard to find downloadable combo vids (although Legend of Kyoto was awesome!). Did find some good Baiken vids on youtube, but the rest is kind of hard to get a hold of. Did see that they had a bunch of games at A-Cho recently. Also saw some Evo vids on youtube, but those were mostly RF's Faust curbstomping everyone :< Are there more vids from Evo maybe? My point being: It seems like the community is not really interested in profiling itself any more. It's seems like it's not aimed at prickling new players to enter into the scene (except for this podcast maybe). There are a few tutorial videos, which I liked a lot, but there is no clean cut wiki set up or anything. Sometimes it's hard to find a nice compilation of combo's and videos to learn from. Or am I missing something? Edited August 8, 2011 by zaex
