this is an IRL only event. we're using online lobbies since there is no LAN, but we want to keep the shuffle room closed, with either 4p or 8p depending on how many setups we actually get. including online randoms will lead to room player imbalance. also, this event is primarily a big learning session. we're going to be streaming these matches, commentating, reviewing replays, and trying to help point out areas to improve in, so having online participants would be a bit weird.

anyone else who is interested, again just send me a PM. we ran some 4p gundam on stream today, and it went really well. zero problems for like 8 hours straight of casuals, and only 2-3 random temp d/c's for a few hours after that.

I really wish I'd read this thread earlier! I definitely would have joined and I still want to learn how to play this game.

thanks for everyone who showed up yesterday, it was a blast!

first of all, someone left their cellphone at my place! Please let me know ASAP because I'm going back to japan Sunday morning. I'll leave it with someone when I leave. It's a sony ericson with a haruhi strap and a redjuice vocaloid keychain.

I won't be able to host anymore events till the next time I'm in the states, and I don't know when that is. Maybe golden week. Until then, I'll probably start organizing some official 8p shufle / freeteam rooms on a scheduled basis for fun, since japan to westcoast seems to be universally yellowbar, which is pretty damn playable.

here are the results from yesterday:

1. Undefeated Of The Moon (Master Gundam, Gunner Zaku) (Tenkai/Nathan)

2. efz is a good game (Crossbone X1, Sinanju/Unicorn) (Lark/Roy)

3. iduncare (Tallgeese III, Heavyarms/Strike) (qwerty/laughing_raven)

4. idunno (Wing-Zero, RX-78) (Ginseng/YAT)

7. Operation Meteor (Tallgeese III, Heavyarms) (magz/dakanya)

7. story of fruit tea (Blue Frame, Cherudim) (tsubasa/Tari)

7. UBW (Strike Freedom, Random) (Brett/CPU)

Someone mentioned to me that there was a tourney where someone was playing EZ8 and started winning hard and the crowd was chanting "EZ8! EZ8!"

Help me find a vid :)

Ok I can't resist anymore, I'm importing this.

Question, does it matter if it's the Japan or Asia version of the game if I want it to work on my US PS3? Sorry if this already been answered and I missed it.

PS3 games are not region locked, so far as I know.

PS3 Games no, Bluray movies yes. Japan and NA share the same Bluray movie region code anyway so all good. :3

It does not matter. Asia version can also use the JPN PSN store's DLC, so there're no problems on that end, either.

This game was on the NCI stream after CSEX. Goddamn, why isnt this being localized? Looked like crazy fun.

Because the Gundam series are licensed out to way too many companies in the states, as opposed to everything being owned by Bandai Namco in Japan.

Ya i've been watching vids for this game and it looks insane, and then finally that stream last night made it look amazing lol.

I'm still surprised people wanted to watch trolling for 3 hours, lol.

NCI event was very exciting to watch - just some things I noticed:

1 . This game is going to be very hard to cover unless there is a spectator mode or we have someone good at watching multiple perspectives. I recommend two casters, one for each team.

2. Dude commentating was knowledgeable but long-winded. Coopa really tried to stay hype through lack of knowledge and stood out for it. He had it right. While the guy presented the game to newcomers very well, he seemed to miss a lot while going on. Completely forgivable but should be an opportunity for improvement once the setup improves.

3. This game is crazy at a high level. Clearing the missions at S rank is crazy, and lot of the missions have it stacked against you bad. I can only imagine how awesome Japan is at this game.

I never seen what the spectator mode is like in it. I know if you set the offline versus mode to all CPU players it has a crazy nice spectating mode with multiple selectable camera views including a overhead field cam. :3

1. This would make the commentary really confusing, unless you have two streams, one for each team. The alternative would be to just have the commentators watching multiple screens, while keeping the majority of their commentary on the main screen. If you watch Japanese commentary, it seems to tend to be focused on one player in each match only. They do have the option to rotate to other players if action is happening elsewhere, though.

2. There're a lot of people in Norcal who could have commentated alongside Bobby or Coopa for the EXVS finals, but they were all either busy (ala Myung) or playing in the finals and unable to commentate. We've actually recorded a number of EXVS sessions with commentary before.

3. Ridiculously so? :P

To the best of my knowledge, you can't spectate player matches in the PS3 version of the game.

So far, it has been 500 yen per suit (will be 2000 total so far after the new DLC is out).

Edit: New suits are up.

Edit 2: We're getting the Zeong and Freedom suits on the 26th, confirmed here. http://www.famitsu.com/news/201201/11008202.html

Additionally, the Hi-Nu will be available for free to download, if you don't already have it.

Myung and I have been talking about this for a while trying to figure out how we can make the game more accessible to spectators. Even if we have two stream setups, that can end up diluting the experience because the commentary becomes two people shouting over each other and you still don't see very much. What we want is a centralized video feed, which can switch between the two video feeds as necessary, but the technology to do this quickly and easily on one box might be beyond the budget we have. It would be perfect for the commentators, perfect for the stream, but very difficult to do.

That said... I really really want to have this available by next NCI.

In theory, programs like Wirecast and xsplit should be able to swap between multiple camera feeds (even more so now, seeing as how xsplit can finally recognize both the Hauppauge HDPVR and BMI Shuttle as camera sources). Not sure how smooth the transition between sources actually is, though, as I've never tried.

The bigger problem is how you'd set up the wiring for the two video feeds, since they'd both end up hooking up to one computer, and the stream setup was notably far away from the other team's setups. I assume you could also do all of this with some sort of media server or VLC or something, but I don't know how those work, so eh.
