I'll start with this: I spent a lot of money this semester that I shouldn't have.

I began with a Happauge! HD PVR which cost me $217. I've always loved shoutcasting, and while I haven't had much success elsewhere, I was really driven to do better in fighting games. So far, I've gotten positive responses, and I'm working hard to always do better. I managed to secure PS3, partially paying in so I can have it for X-mas, got this game, just to play CSE and CS2 while it lasts. The PS3 and CS2 cost me about 80 bucks after all deals were made. I needed more cabling, which I dumped about 40 more bucks into.

Long story short: I'm invested. I like this game in many respects, and I think it deserves it.

This game deserves more credit and more coverage and more respect, and I'm going to provide my share, and I want every community member that has an account on this board to do the same.

I'm only one man, though. I'm also rather new and don't have a lot of cred yet, and I may never have enough. This is where you come in.

We have a new game with a lot of value-added coming in 2 months. It deserves respect and hype. You should help.

What I see us in is a rut, though. Going to arcades is difficult, setting up and running events is difficult, and let's be honest, the reputation BlazBlue has is not the best (already discussed elsewhere). We understand why it's happened and what's holding us back, and we should do something about it.

In 2012, I'm ready to do this.

Every match.

Every tourney.

Every stream.

Will be well-represented by the community and SHOW others this game makes the cut and deserves respect and is very enjoyable and competitive - that this game is hype. It's going to take a good attitude, a lot of guts, and determination. I think I can manage it.

This is what I'm going to strive for. I'm going to do this. I think you should, too.

2012.

Get hype.

TWO THINGS everyone should do:

NUMBER ONE:

Represent our game and our community positively, no matter where you are, what you're doing, or who you're with. Stop shitting on each other, on the game, on other games, on anything. Just stop.

NUMBER TWO:

Find ways - figure out ways - implement ways, to get everyone's butts into a venue and play games with others. What is in the way of everyone doing that? What is the way around it? Do that shiz, right now.

If everyone did these two things, put forward some brain power and some resources to it, then we will be godlike.

PS: Even Hype the low level stuff:

I just have to find a way to do number two in Philly lol.

Well, I'll tell you what - Being King of Casuals is sometimes good enough - Present the game positively, encourage people to try and be friendly when presenting the game to them, and they play. I got 5 people to try BlazBlue in fall 2011. I probably got three of them to play, even if they are just scrubbing it up on platinum or just learning.

Hell, I got someone who plays a legit potemkin - hates the game - to play Tager. The guy said nothing but how the game is stupid the whole time, and he was making most people free, but guess what? I GOT HIM TO PLAY. HE WAS PLAYING.

There was a scene by a college that played fighters, I tried to convince them to play BB but they all ignored it for the sake of Mahvel 3. I didn't mock it either. The only time I've had any success convincing people to try a new game, was when I brought MK9 once.

I should find new friends who play fighters in this city. :vbang:

Easier said than done. The community here in Indianapolis, IN usually post in SRK and you can guess what games they prefer over BB. The few people (I'm talking about 2-3 people) that did play BB for a minute are now playing GG, nothing wrong with that but I wish they would go back to playing BB a little bit more. I have to practically beg people to play BB and this game is rarely, if ever featured as even a side game in local tournaments.

I guess I can try to bring BB hype once I fix my ride and can go back to locals. It's like this though, I can try and convince the people that used to play BB to play BB again but there's no fucking way in hell I can convince those who didn't and get them to play it, they might play a few matches for the lulz but that's about it. In the same way, I just can't play and enjoy SF or Marvel. Different people, different tastes.

PS: Even Hype the low level stuff:

The stuff in that link is not THAT bad, so I could hype that lol.

Call me an asshole but I just can't hype really low-level stuff or stuff that I don't enjoy watching. I'll hype mid to high-level matches depending on how close the matches are and/or if something really hype happens during the match but that's about it.

Maybe not hype low-level stuff, but support in a way to help those get better (Which I think most people do anyways). Trashing straight up turns most people away from even trying to get better leaving them with a feeling embarrassment. That's the feeling I get from the area I live in atleast.

I don't really trash it, I just don't enjoy watching people doing stupidly retarded stuff. As a beginner, there was not a single time I used random Ice Car or random Sekkajins in CT (CT was the first fighting game I took seriously too). The moment I saw that these could be punished is the moment I thought "why do people keep on doing that if they know they're going to be punished?"

I think the problem lies more so with how other people perceive the actual game than our own community. There are problems within the BB community, but other people who don't play BB refuse to give it a chance because:

-It's not a capcom game

-It's not GGAC

-"it looks dumb"/It's a lolzy anime fighter

I think the real question is, how can we change people's perception of the game? How can we get them to see what we see? This is going to be particularly difficult, especially in America. Land of the free and home of Capcom.

I wonder if Japan's marvel community has the same problem we have. It's pretty much the only game capcom makes that they tend to shy away from.

I'm giving up(well, almost) on my side:

1- Our Blazblue community only cares for a new version. Otherwise, they won't play until it comes out. Been 1 month since anyone played with anyone. Also, the online ranbats were complete failures.

2- Lack of overall interest, we have guides but it's pointless since no one is going to make use of them. Besides, there's dustloop anyway :L

3- Treats BB as a sub-sub-game. The guys who play BB have bigger priorites, play something else like SF, Marvel, Call of Duty.

4- Feeeeew and always same people. A new player plays once and is then never seen again.

5- Our forum has no highlight, and remains hidden in the depths of the Internet... This too "kills" players interested in the game.

6- The biggest fighting game community (Versus) is dominated by SF4 and Mvc3. There's a Blazblue section but it's useless (Think of BB in SRK).

The problem is, our community is not even 1% of what DL is. So... yeah.

And 7- The old Guilty Gear players (90%) don't like BB and still stuck in the past. Thing would be VERY different if they played it.

I didn't totally give up yet because I want to try one more thing, a radical measure...

Your intentions are noble. I like it. Seeing Blazblue get cut from Evo should put a fire under everyone's ass. Our game is unbelievably hype and well balanced and fun and yet it's been CUT! We've been getting quite a bit more exposure than usual recently but it's still not enough, we have to hype this game into the stratosphere.

This will be a "go home or die-trying" situation to get BB out to the fighting game community. I'm in a school that we are hyped so much on BB, that the school threaten us to not to have tournaments on school grounds, this is how much we love BB. Now, the biggest problem now is EVO, not giving BB another chance to shine, unless a petition shows how much fan support of the game is still here, instead of the blind eyes of Shoryuken.

whos gonna start the petition and how many signs have we got to get to make some people notice?

ahhaha I lold coz this is pretty much the opposite here

pre 2009:very small comunity, playing mostly 3s in Rome and some kof 2k2/XI in Milan and later focused on 3s

after sf4 and bb came out the comunity grew a lot, everyone who played the old 2d fighting games focused just on sf4(except for some 3s hardcore fan)plus a lot of new players and very few ppl from SSBM started playing bb

after almost 2 years(lol)played at mid and high level(our best player placed 2nd@svb2009 and 5@WGC2010 only losing to the japanese, daigo and fuudo)I stopped playing s(s)f4 since I relaized the game was dumb enough and I didnt explore other fighters except 3s,I started playing marvel for few months and then blazblue when cs2 came out

few months later even some of the better players quit ssf4AE in favor of bb and now the other players start bashing bb and the players who quit the game even if sf4 is still the most played 2d fighters over bb(second) in a 4:1 ratio

some epic quotes from our comunity

"You play a game where you can block in the air because you cant play footsies"

"You dropped sf4 because now the whole comunity leveled up so the usual guys cant dominate the scene anymore,Blazblue the game of the losers"

"the shitty game of the flying cat and the cursed pudding...and you compare this to the king:sf4?"(word for word quote)

"OOO and is this your amazing offensive game with the camper penality system?" (after hazama timed out tager in a Tournament grand final)

You know what would REALLY piss them off?

Be the better man (you and your pals), just ignore them and play the game you like. Be polite, don't retaliate, just show them how petty they are by being indifferent about them and their insults. After all, you're playing BB, a good game which you love to play, and with what I assume is a good amount of people, judging by your story. So why bother? Just hype up your game as much as you can without shitting on their game. I say 'shitting' as in just plainly insulting their game the way they do it to you. Should they try to win over a newcomer to the fighting game community at the arcades (assuming that's where your scene hangs out and plays), stroll up to them and say "Hey, want to try out our game? You might like it" as politely as you can. And if the other guys try to diss your game in front of the newbie, just politely refute him (with examples from tourneys, hell even visual examples) Don't try to diss his game back. BB is actually legit, while SF has stupid design flaws, it's pretty easy, really.

It's important you do this politely, because again, it shows quite obviously how much of a difference the BB players and the SF4 players there is in terms of behaviour and attitude, which would win the interest of new players, seeing how BB players are all cool cats while the SF players are just haters.

Also never, never, NEVER dissuade the newbies from trying out SF4. Let them try it out. The only time you should voice out why SF4 is such a dumb game is when they ask you why YOU don't play it.

I swear you do this, and they can do absolutely JACK SHIT about you and the BB players there. They'll try to 'break' you (you know, troll you, get a reaction from you), but if you do this right, they'll just break themselves. You'll become an Iron Wall.

Also, if you haven't already, play GG. :eng101:
