wow this place is amazing. I also got some news, but read the info first.

Q. So what the hell is Game Over? A. Game Over is a night by gamers, for gamers. It was started by me over a year ago and after a short time off it is making its triumphant return. Game Over seeks to fill the gap in the gaming community left by the onset of "social" gaming and the internet, too few gamers socialize anymore instead preferring to simply play from their couch with people they've never met. We want to offer a new environment to everyone in order to make gaming a community again.

Here is a sample of some of the board games/video games we will have at the event. We have many more not pictured as the week has been a haze of driving all over new england acquiring new stuff.

The big additions/announcements are as follows:

This week we will be adding the beginnings of a mame setup on the 15 foot screen, games will include gauntlet legends, the simpsons, turtles in time, and other favorites. We will be testing the stability of the setup and as such want to keep it fairly minimal for the first week to work out the kinks.

We have a full menu from this week on, last week the bar stuff was working hard to try to put it together in its entirety before the event but simply ran out of time. We apologize for the rather lackluster menu last week but this week we introduce a full menu, party platters, and custom themed drinks.

We will have a full DDR setup with Afterburner metal pads, it will run on ps2 with the full library of ddr titles.

Magic the gathering draft has returned, entry will be $10 prize structure will be 6 packs first place, 4 packs second place, 2 packs third place. We will always be drafting current set and have cases of theros already pre ordered.

Boston8Bit artists will be performing throughout the night we will also be hosting the 3 year anniversary party of Geekbeat Radio from 5-6pm so feel free to come by early for some drinks and cake.

Our longtime friends at The Indie Game Collective will also be joining us and beta testing their games at Game Over in the future!

We will have 8 setups for Fighting games: UMVC3, Street fighter 4, Injustice, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Dead or Alive, and possibly more, every setup is being run on an ASUS lagless monitor and an xbox360 (3 of which are brand new slims we just bought). Fighting games have their own floor, there will be a free to play B league for beginners and a prize pool A league, entry will be $10 and ALL entry money will go into the prize pool.

We will finally have a custom drink menu with themed drinks from The Drunken Moogle! we are still building the final menu but we will have some samplers on tuesday, I' personally partial to the T-virus. We will also have custom platters and group orders available very soon.

We will also have a handheld gaming community, our friends at Streetpass Boston will be coming by to fulfill all your DS or Vita needs. Come by and meet some new friends, or challenge them.

We are nowhere near done yet, we will be adding a MAME (multi arcade machine emulator) machine to the lineup and putting it on the 15 foot screen. Imagine playing gauntlet legends, or X-men, ninja turtles etc again only on a 15 foot screen with your friends. We will also be sporadically putting esports events/streams on the tvs we are not using, we may even have some people come in and stream on location for us.

As always we are listening, and always open to suggestions so give us your feedback, talk to us and we will do our best to add what you want.

I just got in contact with the head (or who ever leads their fb page) and it is possible to run side tournies for Blazblue and Guilty gear. Of course, these can be added to the main line of games IF and ONLY IF there is a big enough of a turnout (at leat 10-15 people who enter)

For those who don't know where Tommy Doyle's is located here is the address: 96 Winthrop St Cambridge, MA 02138

it is a pretty short walk (3-5 minutes) from Harvard Square (the T stop) you're going to want to head towards JFK street. You will know you're going in the right direction if you see the curious george store and the staples. It is the walkway that is right before the staples/small mall.

Unfortunately I won't be there until Winter break (December) but hopefully you guys can start something there to cater to BB, GG, and P4 players since all of these games are getting updated. Also, there are sponsors in the Mass area and P4 will probably be at evo again so this would be a great start for people looking to become pro!

Great venue, great location, awesome people

I highly doubt this will fail any time soon :eng101:

Well, _I_ have no excuse to not show up for this, but I dunno if there're enough of us to put together a 10-15 person tournament. =/

I know its kinda cheap not to lie but amNe in general >~< his gameplay looks so exciting!!!! His design voice eerything appeals to me

So yeah, I don't think three of us makes for enough to have a tournament. :P

>_< No dammit

I want that DL trophy icon under my name and I don't want to wait for GUTS 3!!

It'll just be the Boston's finest Tsubaki & Carl for the finals <_<. Then again if I lost, this plan would fail miserably

I guess I have my work cut out for me. :P

When _IS_ Guts 3 anyway? I kinda accidentally missed the last one entirely because I didn't even know it was going on. x.x

I don't foresee any American tournaments featuring BBCP until it gets its US release; the turnout would be near nonexistent.

Hey guys the guys in the NE thread told me to drop by here. I used to come by PWA in Pelham back in the CS2 days. I go to GU every now and then, but they don't seem to really play that many anime games. My friends and I got hype about BBCP and couldn't wait so we imported it (or one of my friends did more accurately). Are there any other venues hosting games around here or does anyone host casuals?

It seems pretty thin on the ground with the demise of Brain Box, leaving Gaming Underground about the only game in town, and they're not even IN town.

The "Game Over" event in Harvard Square sounds promising, but I don't know if there's anything approaching enough of us to encourage them to...encourage us, as it were.

How many of you are there (since you mention your friends) and where are you located?

Game Over at Tommy Doyle's on Tuesdays in Boston supposedly have at least one setup with people playing BBCP, I haven't been there since the console release but I'll be there this Tuesday with a setup.

Okay; In that case, I'll come by as well.

I believe there are some players who frequent Game Underground who would be willing to play. I brought a BBCP setup to their tournament on Saturday, and there seemed to be a fair amount of people who were interested in picking up the game. Even a few Capcom players were interested, since right now they are in the rut that we just got out of waiting for Ultra to be released.

Well, things were pretty lively at Game Over last night; Had half a dozen or so people, anyway. Thanks to 8088 for bringing CP.

It takes me about 15 minutes to get to Harvard, so it's easy enough for me to do a couple of hours every week; I won't ever be able to stay especially late or anything though.

There's 4 of us. There's 3 of us in Burlington (Mass, not Vermont) and there's another in Middleton.

I'm pretty busy at the moment with classes and work. It might be too insane for me to get out there any time before winter break (outside Fridays at GU), but maybe I'll catch a break some where. One friend might travel to play. He does for Marvel, but I'm not sure how committed he is to anime. The rest probably wouldn't go any where by themselves.

do the names CP or asian tom sound familiar at all? they live closer than you think and mash every so often. however their interest in anime games not named the king of fighters xiii is generally low

mass is hella cliquey. i dunno who you are and i don't want to just freely distribute others' personal information but if you go to GU regularly you'll run into these guys sooner than later! since you've been to GU, you must also be acquainted with luckyd. he should happily answer any inquiries. big tournament at GU on the 23rd also; someone will likely bring blazblue

there's also a facebook group you can try asking around in ("MFC") although the noise to signal ratio is, in mathematical terms, undefined

good luck i guess

Well, like I said, we had pretty non-terrible turnout at Game Over considering no organizing happened at all. Hopefully folks will be there every week.

I'll be there during winter break (december 16th) and probably frequent until I come back to Amherst

I have CP too so bringing a copy won't be an issue though

i'll be at game over with cp tonight~

you know i'm telling the truth because of the tilde

Someone's going to need to bring a PS3 - the venue only provides 360s. (Er, and Gamecubes.)

Posted

I'll be there with a copy/PS3 if needed, I have Terumi/Sasuke/Kokonoe and pretty colors. Hopefully we'll be able to have some additional PS3 sticks/controllers there.

I am in Woburn which is close to Burlington.

Trying to gauge interest for a BBCP tournament at GU on the 23rd(5$/10$). Anyone know how long typical 2/3 and 3/5 tournament matches last in BB?
