InWithTheAshes Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) Compile Heart is shit. While I've never played any of their games (I don't own a PS3.), Neptunia, at least, from the footage I've seen of it, while indeed pretty heavy on the fanservice, seems within to be more of a niche, love - it - or - hate - it kind of thing, and one that isn't intended to be taken entirely seriously. Also, while, as mentioned before, almost everybody here has probably played it, when I said I rarely ever play games for story. what I meant was "pretty much everything aside from Persona 3". Errol, if you've never played it, I'd definitely recommend it. One of the better parts was how they integrated the story themes with the gameplay. How do you create a game about mortality and the limited time life has? Simple: You make everything, from grinding to buying to fusing to the links, have a finite time limit. Excellent. Also, despite the fact that the party members would occasionally screw things up, the "A.I. with tactics" system incorporated for them was both the best ally automation I've seen in an RPG and actually gave you the notion that you were fighting alongside these people, rather than just simply being some sort of overlord over your small group of companions. It works because they're programmed to always err on the side of caution. They NEVER take any risks especially when it comes to healing lol. Tales of Vesperia allies were like that too. Errol Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I played some of P4, in japanese when it first came out. Good stuff but I ended up doing something else with my time. Never touched any of the others before that. I'm sure I'd be interested in P3 too. At this point, I'd like to play P4 golden rather than pick up the PS2 game again. But I don't really want to get a Vita either. Maybe when they figure out how to fit a VIDEO OUT PORT on the damn thing... Slightly different but I did love some planescape torment.
Kujikawa Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) God I could sit here all day and reply to everyone. @InWithTheAshes It has a pathetic put together story where it tries to be comical and ends up just being weeaboo rubbish. The music is GOD awful and the battle system, although improved, still is easy and boring. The fanservice sells the game and if those new, looking for a recent JRPG pick-up this game, they will be extremely disappointed. It makes me sad =( SO is one of my favorite series. All of the are good, SO4 being the worst of the 4, but I still enjoyed it. I am playing Hexy Force atm actually, pretty average. Anyone got Enchanted Arms lol, I was playing the online with a mate like last month, first turn op. EDIT: SMT has the best universe! Everyone play SMT games that arn't Persona! Although Persona 3 and 4 are amazing games, they do not stay true to the SMT series, imo (Especially P4). Go play Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga, The original 2 Personas, Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, etc. Edited February 25, 2013 by Kujikawa
InWithTheAshes Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) Would any - body care to play BB? It's rather barren out here. Symm: Well, like I said, it does seem to be some - thing that would be divisive. In that respect, does any - body here have a positive view on it? I'd like to hear both opinions. Also, I wouldn't say that the Persona games feel completely seperate from the main titles aside from the obvious (Ability names, items, ). They still have the main themes of the series (Thinking for your - self, important choices, the conciousness, ect.). It's just placed within a mostly far more modern setting. It's actually rather fitting, really: The main games were partly made of old legends, tales and mytological creatures, whereas the Persona portions of the name take largely from a relatively recent interpreter of them (Jung.). With an average score of 5/10 (Some critics giving 2s and 3s) its difficult. If I was to say something good about Hyperdimension Neptunia is that if your into anime and want a relaxed light hearted tale, then go ahead. Most people don't want seriousness in there face all day with thoughtful stories and themes, they just want to have a fun nice RPG. If your into all the ecchi, loli and moe stuff too, then you should enjoy it. I mean I put in around 20-30 hours into it and had 100% events, 100% dungeons and 99% bestiary which got me mad cuz it gave me 99% trophies lol. Edited February 25, 2013 by Kujikawa
Milln Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Hexyz Force is indeed average. I have that on my psp wasn't thrilled by it. Another average game but is on the pretty good side of average is Jeanne D'Arc for the psp. Little Strategy game thinger and about Joan of Arc, from a jrpg side.

IMO Hexyz force is below average with it's mediocre plot, cookie cutter dungeon crawler gameplay, very grindy stat and "upgrade" menu, near useless monster allies who are also btw also need to be caputured >_> edit: i forgot to mention the characters themselves are either not interesting or downright annoying like the arrogant dragon protagonist or that phoenix girl in majority of the game. I'm not sure we're talking about the same game. Plot isn't necessarily mediocre, it does have its interesting moments. I agree, the dungeons and areas are pretty boring, but I don't agree that the stat and upgrades using Force Points were grindy. You could treat it just like leveling up in any other game and weren't obligated to sit around farming points. Also, there are no monster allies, so i'm not sure what you're speaking of. Characters on Cici's side are boring, but the characters on Levant's side at least have some personality. I'm not sure where you're getting dragon and phoenix, though. If you're going for archetypes, Levant's not really arrogant, and Cecilia is a lazy dump, not really a phoenix.
COAL_TRAIN_ Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Im playing Etrian Odyssey 3 at the moment. The first 2 were good, but I reckon this is the best yet. I believe Etrian 4 has just come out in the US, but the 3DS is region locked so Im not gonna get that for some time Some of my all time faves are Star Ocean (3 in particular), Disgaea, Tales of series, Valkyrie Profile, Resonance of Fate.. and also the Last Remnant, even though that had its flaws. The best Final Fantasy was X! I also completed Dragon Quarter a few times, but it took a few restarts. I even beat the whole game without changing in to dragon mode, as I thought I could change the ending... but it didnt work! >_>

Remove Star Ocean and you have my list. Last Remnant on PC was waaaaay better, one of the better JRPG's to be honest. The best Final Fantasy was X! Finally someone who gets it ;p
COAL_TRAIN_ Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Last Remnant on PC was waaaaay better, one of the better JRPG's to be honest. Yeah, Ill have to pick up the PC version at some point.... its bound to be pretty cheap by now! Finally someone who gets it ;p Great battle system, great battle theme, Auron, and Blitzball; all the ingredients for success!
Fistmaster049 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Personally I thought the blitzball was just plain annoying in my opinion FF10 was an ok game, in some places I can't see why it gets so much hate....however....I still have nightmares about that laugh ....seriously he is the worst protangist in the series, bar none

Oops wrong game :o, instead of hexyx force i had unchained blade in mind XD I now remember hexyz force, eventhough i don't seem to remember that much of it due to how generic that was.

HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! I'll concede that old Tidus was a bit annoying at times. Plus, Dissidia taught me that I'd been pronouncing his name wrong all along; apparently its TEE-DUS, and not TIDE-US... did you forget that 12 exists? inb4 ashe/basch is the mc not vaan Tidus was memorably bad, and Vaan was forgettably bad! Fistmaster049 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 did you forget that 12 exists? inb4 ashe/basch is the mc not vaan yeah they did kinda forget about him about half way didn't they? he just kinda..tagged along just cuz...ah well, not a fan of him either but... HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! I'll concede that old Tidus was a bit annoying at times. Plus, Dissidia taught me that I'd been pronouncing his name wrong all along; apparently its TEE-DUS, and not TIDE-US... Tidus was memorably bad, and Vaan was forgettably bad! Which is worse? ....Tidus is worse, you also have to weigh whining in unskippable against whining in skippable cutscenes and of course the game forgetting about him halfway rather than the whiner being the focus ..yeah while I'm not a fan of Vaan I'd take him over Tidus anyday :3

You didn't like Unchained Blades? I was considering picking that up on PSN for my Vita! Could you describe a little more about what put you off? I PLAYED FINAL FANTASY TEN FOR BLITZBALL. AND ONLY BLITZBALL.
Fistmaster049 Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 GGs to Seo and Ash today god my Ragna is so rusty ._. ah well, at least those Mu matches were kinda fun for a character I barely use
-Seo Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 ggs guys, I can't hirentotsu loop online for shit ;_;
gamester Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Did someone mention FF12 "I'm Captain Basch Von Ronsenburg of Dalmasca" About all I can remember of playing that game apart from that tower near the end of the game iirc. Also that place where the map was a giant crystal I think... That place was a pain in the neck to navigate. Couldn't be asked to explore that area.
