Slash and Burn Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 GGXX: The Midnight Carnival, GGXX: #Reload, or GGXX:Slash?
Zoogstin Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Slash. Zappa is better, Faust is top tier, and ABA is in it.
Aea Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Slash. Order-Sol is fun. But I like X2, cuz Bent over and crawling around-Robo-Ky was cool.
CrimsonDisaster Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Slash because XX is broken and #R is Eddie.
muffa Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 kinda pointless thread, I pick AC cos it isn't available yet
DandyStepper Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 kinda pointless thread, I pick AC cos it isn't available yet Best reason so far.
Teyah Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Slash because XX is broken and #R is Eddie. Yeah because SBO2/3 were just full of Eddies all over the place like with SBO4 and Sol/Ky oh wait
CrimsonDisaster Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Yeah and there were actually good Eddie players IN THE WORLD at SBO2, and Ogawa totally lost a single game at SBO3, and Eddie totally isn't a weird-technical character that few people wanted to put effort into, and there was a total absence of Ky and Sol at SBO4. Oh wait. #R Eddie wasn't very popular but that doesn't mean he wasn't far and away the best character in #R. Let's not forget Eddie-lution, aka mediocre Eddie-fest.
Teyah Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 If Eddie was SSS Tier as you seem to think, there wouldn't have been just Ogawa, but other Eddies with significant wins as well (See: HnK / Toki). It's not like Ogawa was the only Eddie out there. Eddie's playstyle didn't change a whole lot from XX to #R, so those existing Eddie players should've had a cakewalk upon #R's early years, yeah? No. Let's not forget Eddie-lution, aka mediocre Eddie-fest. Well that's just America and their general tendency to hop on the top tier for competitive play, not much else to be said there.
Hideki Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Slash. Because I HATE dust loop, ABA is really cute, Baiken is more funny, and I discovered jam with this version.
reaVer Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 / OS, nuff said. And it's faster then #Reload:P
xenophobian Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 slash...jam feels more complete now and i love what they did to her 2HS for combos...and #R jam was too broken >_<
TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Slash. Because it has a fun-as-fuck version of Sol that I can use to further smash whiny players who didn't like Dust Loop in #R (proving that single combos do not make broken characters) and it has Order-Sol, meaning that I don't have to waste my time on other characters because I can always pick Sol even when I'm sandbagging. =P
Vyre Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Slash. Sol's Dustloop was boring. Now there's actually a trick to loops and they aren't as effective as well. This makes for more varied gameplay, which is a big plus in my opinion. Kind of a stupid reason, but I also like Slash best because of the OS boss. Considering Maniac CPU is the best opponent I get, it's refreshing to play against something better than I-No boss.
Koozebanian Fazoob Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 If Eddie was SSS Tier as you seem to think, there wouldn't have been just Ogawa, but other Eddies with significant wins as well (See: HnK / Toki). Toki is better balanced than #R Eddie, Toki isn't even the only top tier character in HnK. Rei is pretty much on the same level as him, Juda and Raoh frankly are not far enough behind to matter anymore either. / OS, nuff said. And it's faster then #Reload:P No, it isn't. Slash is the same speed as #R. People make this shit up ever iteration and it has never been true. Also, this thread is
poon Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 If Eddie was SSS Tier as you seem to think, there wouldn't have been just Ogawa, but other Eddies with significant wins as well (See: HnK / Toki). It's not like Ogawa was the only Eddie out there. Eddie's playstyle didn't change a whole lot from XX to #R, so those existing Eddie players should've had a cakewalk upon #R's early years, yeah? No. no because ogawa beat them all
722 Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Am I the only one who actually misses Sol's dust loop? That shit looked awesome. People can talk all they want about #R Eddie, he was the best character in the game for the majority of its lifespan (all but like the first month or two?) but we had basically a single tournament where Eddie ruined everybody's shit and it happened to be a tournament with several Japanese players where Eddie didn't even end up winning it. Ogawa is an extremely inventive player and I think he would have been unbeatable with any number of #R characters, fact of the matter is the Slash top and second tier is much simpler than #R and doesn't play into what he does best. Kani just went apeshit at SBO to almost the same degree as Ogawa last year, is Slash Jam unbeatable now? And in this country for #R didn't we have AKA go on like a six-tourney streak with Millia in the Midwest, Alex G was killing people with Dizzy, I think Flash won a major with May? My favorite GG is X because the voice acting (except for May) and backgrounds are best
CrimsonDisaster Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 shrug Eddie has been talked to death but oh well. Also to put things into perspective, KA2 beat everybody he played (except for that one Faust) at SBO and more or less won the thing for his team. Ogawa was on like an 80+ game winstreak or something before sweeping SBO. Not to take anything away from either of them, but there's a difference between almost sweeping SBO and sweeping SBO and 80-ish games before that to talk about if we're talking character dominance. And talking about US tournaments is nice to talk about character variety in the states, but when we're just dealing with stuff in particular regions or where only certain people show up, that isn't a complete picture. Sadly we don't really have a complete picture for #R since there wasn't really a tournament where players from every region turned out. Also GGX was tight, X Millia was fun >.>
TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 LOL, GGX is classic. FCD was wonderfully sad.
722 Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 And talking about US tournaments is nice to talk about character variety in the states, but when we're just dealing with stuff in particular regions or where only certain people show up, that isn't a complete picture. Sadly we don't really have a complete picture for #R since there wasn't really a tournament where players from every region turned out.The thing is, if we're going to ignore what the established top players of other regions accomplished because we never had a true national tournament, why even bother discussing character rankings at all? For any GG ever for that matter, since you're never going to have a tournament where seriously everybody shows up? By that logic is there any reason I can't just turn around and point at any tournament Eddie won and say it doesn't count because random guy X didn't show up? I'm not really arguing that Eddie wasn't the best character but again, whenever people talk about Eddie being completely gamebreaking they talk about Ogawa, and Eddie was the best character before Ogawa ruled over #R. Chibita pulls 99%-win-ratio crap like Ogawa with Lion and Lion is not, from what I understand, the best VF character. This kind of crap makes me roll my eyes because I really feel like it held a lot of people back during #R. There really were answers to Eddie that went undiscussed on here, on romancancel and on SRK because threads about him always turned into people throwing out baseless, unhelpful "lol jumpign kick" bullcrap, and we don't see as much of that with Ky in this game -- thanks to the old "worst in the game" hype in my opinion -- but I don't think the community is over it. I don't mean to put words in your mouth because I realize you didn't say any of that, but the whole "#R was not worth playing because of Eddie" thing always makes me roll my eyes because it sounds like the community making excuses for Marn and Ruin.
