To tell the truth, I don't mind the lack of dash cancels or the overall length of the moves: as long as they stay within the same frame, I just consider them to be the game's feature and get over it. The thing I do hate about ASB so far is the extremely long taunts, especially stuff like Joseph's counter-taunt. And it wouldn't be that bad if they weren't practical, but as the things stand right now, you can expect to see the same goddamn taunt about 5-10 times per round, especially if the opponent has a good reason of denying you the meter (Pucci, Giorno, the pillar men). That thing is more dangerous for the game in the long run than the dash cancels or useless normals, I believe.

yeah the overly long animations are definitely a problem. i guess the game isn't supposed to be played "for real", or if it was, they did a very poor job of balancing the actual mechanics vs. the flashy style.

the oki game is pretty much do a jump attack so they cant instantly jump out on hard knockdown

i think this game has very few moves that are actually advantageous on block, everything DIO has is negative asides from jump ins and alot of stuff is negative on hit also

Really? I guess you'd notice it more since you play Pucci, but I've never really felt the need to taunt, I've always preferred continuing the pressure. Joseph's counter taunt could do with a bit of speeding up, though.

Well, we've discussed the taunts with the best local HttF player I know, and his stance goes something like "As long as people depend on easy beat combos, taunting them on every occasion is a valid way of decreasing their damage potential". He also plays Polnareff, but wants to try out Cars and Hol Horse, and those two guys have much more oki options (like charging the gun or KATEBAYOKAROOONANODA). I suppose it's the same thing as with any other fighting game: the most obvious options get abused a lot at the beginning and get overshadowed by other more technical options over time.

Well, they did say that it's more of a JoJo game than a fighting game, so I suppose that's just how their priorities go.

Finally got my copy in today. What is everyone's layout on your arcade sticks?

I was guessing something like old JoJo?

The link saying Fugo will be free and the recharge timer being reduced also mentions that a balance patch will be out on the 10th. Much faster response than I expected, wonder if they were already working on this before the game came out?

Basically, Bowie Kira has better combos, while Kawajiri Kira got better space control. Both of them are also apparently weaker than the competition, but hey, that doesn't stop me from maining Pucci.

Ah, I suppose that makes sense, both gameplay wise and canonically as well, Yoshikage Kira just wants to live a simple low-tier life lol

Pucci looks pretty cool, though I feel that they kinda gimped him in other places because of his stand discs being so strong, but it doesn't balance out properly and he's left kind of weak (like U/MvC3 Hsien-ko with her obnoxious DF Senpuu Bu assist)

I freaking love the amount of detail that went into each character's GHA, the first time I saw DIO's used on Jotaro I was crying (the manliest) tears of joy I swear...

I think it's like kaz41 said, the Kira player kept mashing back/down back at some points to get a stylish dodge off of anything Narancia did, so the Narancia player started to wise up and started throwing him in response, since you can't stylish dodge throws. So if anybody's to blame, it's the Kira player for forcing the Narancia player to resort to that.

I suppose that's fair, kind of silly for the Kira player to not wise-up to it though (until like, the last half of the last round at least) I mean, it was pretty obvious...

Then again, if the guy is stooping to abusing a gimmick/glitch to win I guess we can assume he's not the most savvy FG player.

I'm afraid this game will suffer from Marvel 2 syndrome with such a large initial cast, where people will find a few powerful characters with exploitable stuff and the majority of the rest of the cast that can't keep up will fall into obscurity.

So I was initially planning on grabbing a copy at launch, but other stuff took priority. Like a great condition Steel Battalion box falling into my lap.

What are the differences between the Asia and Jpn versions? Aside from what I've heard about the store being easier to navigate and potential languages available, is there anything else for the sake of convenience? I'd like to grab a copy while it's still fresh off the grill.

There is usually no difference between Asian and Japanese versions except for the price and the whole region thing (have to buy the DLC from the corresponding PSN Store, etc.). It seems to be the same case with ASB.

kawajiri's currently deemed the weakest character in the game btw lol

Okuyasu is also a popular contender for the title of Low Tier King.

At least Kosaku HAS setups like unblockable Oki with his airbombs. What does Okuyasu have? :v:

I think Okuyasu deserves his own tier.

If you guys haven't noticed yet, this person has been uploading all the Jojo videos he could find on nicovideo literally everyday, very useful in finding stuff. Like this Kira setup video.

Game has plenty of potential for the setup part of the game, just the majority of the neutral consisting of jumping in...ugh. Not to mention the frame rate and stuff like that. I like using Diavolo and Valentine, but with the slowdown sometimes my counter inputs get eaten up or I can't react to something that I know is coming, so I feel like I'm gimped. Still like the game though.

Okuyasu violates people,I don't wanna hear tiers and Jojo's in the same sentence, please the game just came out and is getting a balance update.Been watching ImShiawase vids every morning with some hot chocolate. So may good combos and hilarious infinites.

Y-you guys just don't see his potential! He's really flexible, you know! He can move his arms back really far behind his back!

Kawajiri's air bombs are unblockable? I had no idea, I just assumed it was early footage and people were being derpy and getting caught by it (is it only the manual bomb? that would kinda make sense considering it doesn't seem to have a hitbox until you let go of the button, but that move seems risky as shit)

Does anyone know what Bites the Dust actually is? I mean, I can't tell if it's an unblockable, a counter or just a run of the mill attack. Given the nature of the ability in Part 4, I would think it was a counter, but it would be pretty silly (and stupid) if both of Kawajiri's supers were counters

So of the three pillar men, who do you think is the most bonkers? People were ragging on ACDC early on, but those "get over here" Scorpion spears of his look to be pretty ridiculous, side note, I hate how the JoJo's wiki calls him Esidisi, like, goddamn it, that's just engrish, and not even the good kind of engrish like "Duwang"

Cars will more or less be fine I think because his light mode giving him hella free unblockables (as long as they patch out that rapid fire stylish dodge thing, unblockables dont work on things they dont hit)

imo from what I've seen so far Wham looks kinda underwhelming, a shame since he was the best of the pillar men imo, what does his wind mode even do? I haven't seen too much of people actually using it when they play him, and even though he's got dat range he looks slow as balls in a game full of characters with slow ass moves

Okuyasu has unblockable oki setups too :c

Yes, but they require a full meter because it's his HHA no? I might just not know what I'm talking about, not gonna lie, not really interested in Okuyasu :/

That notation is impossible to read, why would you put it in lime green? Not that it really matters I guess, because I don't speak/read japanese

That's the big hurdle for this game I think, infinites/glitches can be patched out but if the neutral game becomes stagnant and predictable the game isn't going to hold a lot of people's attention for very long

I think if they made it so that instead of stylish dodge being doing with back/down-back.. it was forward or either down or down-forward for lows(Like 3s parries) and making the timing a bit stricter would really fix the stylish dodge problem. Also speed up the game a little bit. They could even keep it at 30 fps, but if it was 60 fps it'd be even better(though that's impossible unless they tone down the graphics and effects, so they'd have to get rid of a lot of the background stuff).

The game is really fun either way IMO.

I figured his GHA was, but the air bombs surprised me (though now that I think about it, it really shouldn't have, but I was too distracted by all the shiny fabulous JoJo-ness I was seeing)

cars normal mode is pretty awful from what i can tell, light mode eats meter as fast as time freeze

but once he becomes THE ULTIMATE THING, he's pretty beast

wamuu's probably the strongest just because of wind mode infinite

It's kinda hard to turn the Ultimate Lifeform though, since it takes forever for him to put the mask on. Unless anybody knows of any good set ups or ways to go into it.

Is it so slow you couldn't even go into it off a knockdown? I mean, it seems like it takes forever to get off the floor in this game, if the ridiculously late otg's I've seen actually combo are anything to go by at least

I do have to say I love the way they handled super meter in this game, and how lots of characters use it in different ways, some save it for bursts (Diavolo's broke ass one in particular) others for puttsun cancels, some for their badass counter supers and to use supers for combo ending. It gives me nice tingly GG vibes, where you have FB's, FD, RC's, and FRC's on top of everyones supers to give all the characters a ton of ways to use their resources however it suits them best, they could've easily copped out and been like "and this is the bar for your flashy combo ender/extender" like MvC or Skullgirls

Edit: speaking of Diavolo, I know his Epitaph makes him auto stylish dodge moves for it's duration, but is that at any time? I mean, like even while he's attacking? because otherwise I'd see it as kind of a waste of meter, parrying isn't that hard once you get used to the timing, so why be lazy? spend the meter elsewhere, like on his stupid burst

if it auto dodges at all time's for him that's pretty ridiculously awesome I mean, who doesn't like mounting a risk-free offense? :v:
