Woot! Season 3! I will do my best to attend more often compared to last season. Also, I think starting on 8/11 is a better idea because we can start fresh with both games.

Posted

I can't decide which is better. An early Persona 4 tournament would draw in stream numbers and the ability to play it early might draw in more players than normal, but I don't think many would be tournament ready. What if instead of a tournament of P4 on the 28 we had an all day training session. Advertise it as a way for people on the fence to come play and learn from people who kinda sorta know what they're doing early, and have a BB tournament as usual. If we had a tournament I think some players wouldn't want to spend the money because they don't feel confident yet, because there are many who want to play this game but know jack and shit about the way it plays and its systems.

I may be wrong though. What's your opinions?

That sounds like a great idea, but wouldn't it have to be on the weekend after P4 comes out in the States since it's region locked unless someone has a JP PS3?

Posted

maybe p4arena training session and a small invite-only exhibition tournament specifically for exhibition purposes? how many of us would actually be competent enough in a character for a day 1 tourney?

Posted

I think Guymam is on to something. Have a full day training session on the 28th then have a P4 and BB tournament on the 11th.

Posted

I second Wallice's idea. Formerly Guymam's. A day 1 tournament would just be silly if no one's really had practice. James would just win everything decisively, and everyone else will struggle to remember what buttons to press. Personally, I'd be consistently showing off half a Naoto combo, and throwing out random IKs and internally laughing as every one of them hits.

A training session day sounds good. Are these tourneys going to start around the same time they did last season? I usually get off work a little too close to when sign ups end which made it hard for me to go. Of course, I could try to change my schedule...

I'm up for a training session on the 28th.

Xiei, how are you getting a copy of the game? Japanese version? If there is somehow more than one copy of the game, want me to bring a second streaming/recording setup?

I'm not going to stop you from bringing your own equipment, but there is kind of a space issue at Super Arcade. Just come on down for the 28th and see if you'll have enough room before bringing anything other than a normal setup.

If you're serious about bringing it every week, we could always use someone to record just footage + commentary on the side for youtube/nico encoding. There probably isn't enough bandwidth to go around for 2 streams at Super Arcade, otherwise I'd probably dual stream to Nico and Twitch at the same time.

Edit: It seems like we'll be doing a practicing session + BB on that day. I have to confirm the date with Mike Watson before we go ahead and plan for it, so we may just be doing Jameschariot instead of being at Super Arcade.

Yeah sounds like a good format...plus we can all say "bye" to BB that day although many of us have left her without saying anything already lol.

Yeah that's why I said Stream/Recording. I mean, theoretically I could stream using my unlimited 4G but the quality might not be fantastic. At the same time, I know the limitations of recording stream footage, so it would be far better to have a second capture running to capture HD footage rather than saving the encoded video that's being streamed.

I've toted my setup around quite a bit and only need a tiny bit of room for box/keyboard/monitor/mouse. A 2'x3' area would be enough.

In the future, I'm also going to build a more portable streaming PC. I want to build a micro form-factor tournament friendly PC, without having to resort to an external capture card.

BB is a mainstay of this event, at least until post NEC of this year, if we even last that long.

That's cool I guess. If the SoCal community can muster enough attention to ASW games not named P4U and AC+R, it'd be nice. I'm down for that.

Posted

I'll always be down for BB. It was the game that made me get serious and start going to events, so there is no way I'll ever abandon it. I do admit though, I am pretty bored with it right now. But I just put that down as being excited for the new fighting game releases just around the corner.

Updated the thread. It's still tentative since we don't have the dates nailed down just yet, but this is what we're going for.

Also, I know this is going to be a bigger issue in the future as we go down the line and we start playing more and more games, but can we please not be douchebags towards each other's games? I've been sick of this shit since CT came out, and if I have to deal with it with every single new game I'm going to be extremely annoying. I know we're fighting gamers and we fucking hate every fighting game we don't play, but we're supposed to be the smaller, yet smarter and friendlier part of community right?

So, if you end up hating P4U, BB, SG, GGAC+R, or Jackie Chan Fists of Fire down the line, try to tone down the hate, or do what I do, just be smart about it and discuss what you don't like about it. There's going to be a big influx of people who we want to make feel welcome in our scene, so I expect you oldfags to keep it friendly, alright?

That said, I'm not going to police anyone, ever. I will just judge you from the back of my mind, so when you ask to come over to my house or something, we'll see how that goes.

That said, see you guys there!
