So far Daisuke Ishiwatari is still quite about Maiden of Grove. hey, it could also be Solaria or new character too you know. Before any new info. , I'm just gonna assume it's Solaria or a new character.

Posted

Truth be told, I was shocked when Aksys officially called her "Maiden of the Grove". "Kokage no Kimi/Maiden of the Shaded Tree/Bower" was the translation we've been going by for the longest time...of course many people would say that's blantantly deliberate to hint at Dizzy since her stage is called Grove, and Dr. P's ramblings...but that's not enough to convince me, though, not even the Lore. Hell...if we're going to take it this far...I might as well say I'm not convinced Faust is Dr. Baldhead until he actually ADMITS IT. :keke: That, ladies and gentleman, is called fan loyalty sans speculation.

But Dr. B. became Faust in his GG1 story mode ending... there's never been any doubt. YOU'RE CRAZY, MAN. Also: wild speculation is always great. I love when new people join up and reiterate what everyone's been thinking for the past twenty pages like it's new info. :yaaay: Just kidding, I love new people.

Faust will end up being the Kiske family physician. :FA: I have to inform you . . . :KY: Is she ok? :FA: Actually, she's pregnant. Its going to be a boy. :KY: O_O :FA: Congradulations!

Hey Guys, here's the interview with Daisuke Ishiwatari regarding GG 2 Overture. These questions are from GG 2 Overture Material Collection! There are total 50 Q & A!!! Guilty Gear 2 – Overture MATERIAL COLLECTION ~50 Questions 50 Questions to Ishiwatari Daisuke Q1: As GG2 is set 5 years after Guilty Gear XX, in your mind how was the previous game’s story concluded? A1: In the Guilty Gear XX arcade series, the story was completed at the time point of the first “Guilty Gear XX”. Everything afterwards was all the same story. As the titles overlapped more characters were added but there was no thematic, each character completing goals in parallel. For the overall story, Dizzy had a bounty placed on her but no one was able to exterminate her and she was taken in by the Jellyfish Pirates… is the result. Publically Jam received the credit for the extermination, as well as the bounty reward, is the story that is given. Q2: In the five years since the previous game, what has happened around Sol or what has he done? A2: The biggest occurrence is the founding of the Allied Kingdom Illyuria. Around the founding, there was prepared a political suspense drama, I would like to gradually show that. As relating to Sol, he quickly got Sin from Ky and travels while bounty-hunting. Q3: The Toriora that is the starting point of the story, what kind of place is it? A3: There is not concrete image for the place but as a stage, I was imagining a kind of witch country. This world has the setting that magic is usable by various people, and even among them those with special abilities or unique physical characteristics who are persecuted have created communities. One of those is Toriora. Speaking of the witch country, it is a floating island in the sky, and all of those are called Toriora. Q4: The reason Sin was placed in Sol’s care? A4: There is a detailed background but I would like to reveal that at another opportunity… The short story in this book largely presents the circumstance. Q5: Why does Sin hide his right eye with an eyepatch? A5: There is a reason he wears the eyepatch but as it is also a secret, no comment for now. Q6: Who does Sin take after, being an idiot (アホの子)? A6: He is not an idiot because of genetics but rather of Sol’s upbringing most likely. Sol himself is an extremely smart scientist but in terms of character, he isn’t good at teaching things. For the time being, at the very least he taught Sin how to read and write but that is the limit. (smile) Sin’s mother Lady of the Bower (木陰の君) though not as knowledgeable (知識的) as Ky, she is an individual of character (人格者). Q7: In the story’s opening, Sol is bothered by a rough feeling (ざらつき) of unknown origin. What is it? A7: It is kind of like telepathy. Like a spark of something. I cannot say anything too specific about it but Valentine’s existence sends a EM-wave signal-like (電波信号) stimulus (刺激) to Sol. Q8: One of Sol’s interest is “listening to Queen”. While continuing his bounty hunting travels, how does he appreciate the music? A8: He’s the picky type so he listens to (vinyl) records. So among his travel luggage he does walk around carrying a gramophone/vinyl record player (蓄音機). Since he is also a scientist, he also developed a portable version. Q9: The country of Illyuria that is the center stage of the story is what kind of country? A9: From the ravages of the hundred year spanning Crusade between Gears and humanity, Europe was divided up into plots of land. There was a leader-like person for each land area but in terms of diplomacy that was very inconvenient. At one point the UN attempted to get Europe to unify and reform as a single political entity…Illyuria is a nation formed under the initiative and by the UN leadership. However, to unify countries such as England and France that existed until now, the national land was too wide. So then, three kings were put forth to divide and rule, which is why it became the Allied Kingdom. Because there is differences by region, even as a single kingdom there is a cultural difference. Which is why the land near England has bad tasting food. Q10: Ky who up until now was a chief (長官) of the International Police Force appears in the position as the king of the Allied Kingdom Illyuria. Through what sequence of events did he become king (連王)? A10: Ky is a hero by the Crusades. There was an election at the founding of Illyuria but even compared with the other candidates he received the people’s overwhelming support. That is why he was entrusted with the Illyuria, the city that holds the position of being like the Allied Kingdom’s capital. However, that is only the story on the surface, there is an existence also pulling strings from the shadows. By reason that in any way as a puppet regime, Ky would become king no matter what. The outline is covered in the short story in this book but I would like to do a more detailed version at a later date. (smile) Q11: Ky was originally a person of high social standing so how is his life after becoming king? A11: The greatest change would be in the residence but in terms of living environment, I don’t think it will change much. In order to carry out the duties of a politician, even if the lifestyle cycle changes to Ky it would be like a 10-tatami room becoming a 20-tatami one…amount of difference.* However, up until now being in a position to exhort (苦言) those above him, he is in now in the position to be exhorted by those below. And even as king, there is in truth a higher position. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, I would expect his stress to building up considerably. That is why, in the story, in order to dispel all that resentment (鬱憤), was why he reacted so violently. *theria’s comment: Unfortunately, this is something only someone who has lived in Japan probably understands best. They measure room sizes in Japan by “tatami” (those straw mat floorings). I don’t know if it is within context to have translated this as a “doubling” in room size or not. Q12: Ky is fighting with a different weapon in hand than FuuRaiKen. Please explain in detail this sequence of events. A12: The reason behind the loss of FuuRaiKen is covered in the game’s story event but in order to insure the freezing of Lady of the Bower, he did not use own power alone but used up the power contained in FuuRaiKen… is the set-up. Ky himself isn’t clear on what exactly he did, he was just desperate. On the other hand, the weapon he uses in the game, that is simply a sword presented to the king. It is a sharp sword but as a decorative item it is not meant for actual combat. It was something handed over “With this sword, isn’t it dignified?” (smile) Still, since it is very careful Ky, please think that when no one is looking, he is secretly improving (磨) the sword. Q13: In the future when Ky steps down, will Sin be inheriting the seat of the next king? A13: Absolutely not. (smile) Sin himself would abdicate I think, in the first place because he doesn’t have the personality to capture the people’s hearts. Illyuria’s system is similar to the presidential system, inheriting would be difficult. Q14: Ky’s wife Lady of the Bower. Does she as an ordinary queen show herself before the public? A14: She does not show herself. Though Ky says wife, those are only words of his decision, not that they are officially/publically married. That is why, from the public view and knowledge he is unmarried. The existence of the Lady of the Bower is information known only to a small group of the knighthood. Q15: The Lady of the Bower, is that person? A15: …. Q16: In the game it is said that the Lady of the Bower is genetically Justice’s clone, specifically what kind of relationship is it? A16: To put it frankly, parent and child. In the game, there is a passage I expect… about that before Justice was sealed it was bearing a child. Q17: With the Gear Disappearance incident resolved, were they able to restore the frozen Lady of the Bower to normal? A17: At the point of Valentine’s defeat, the Lady of the Bower was still frozen. In the ending, there is Dr. Paradigm’s line “to investigate with utmost care”. The story beyond that I would like to show later. Q18: Illyuria received devastating damage by the Visual (ヴィズエル) lead by Valentine. What happened to the people of Illyuria during this time? A18: We actually wanted to show the escaping citizens but in terms of the game it would make it very confusing as well as problems in specs so it was not included. By the time Sol’s group arrived at Illyuria, you can think they were either nearly entirely annihilated or evacuated. Q19: Starting with Izuna, the outcasts (人外) live in a place called “Yomotsu Hirasaka” (黄泉平坂). Is this a different place than the Backyard where Valentine was born? A19: The meaning of Backyard would apply to both but Izuna’s Yomotsu Hirasaka exists only as a land formed above the Backyard, one that cannot be represented (表現) in this world (現世). It is made by the reflection of Izuna’s experiences (体験) and memories (記憶) though he himself does not recognize (認識) that. When you noticed it, Yomotsu Hirasaka existed… it is that kind of place. In the game, there is a line “Going through there is a shortcut” which is based on the concept that as it exists above the Backyard which is an accumulated body (集積体) of information, time and distance can be shrunken. Q20: In Yomotsu Hirasaka many youkai as Izuna’s friends (仲間) live there. Are there youkai other than those seen in the game that exist? A20: Actually, Daruma (達磨) and Namahage (なまはげ/生剥) aren’t youkai but there are a lot of friends. We also thought of original youkai but we had to be careful not to conflict with the authority of Mitsuki Shigeru-sensei (水木しげる)…(smile). *Mitsuki Shigeru is a popular mangaka in Japan who is apparently known for youkai manga. Q21: Is Izuna himself also a youkai? A21: For the definition of youkai in our game, it would fit all life spontaneously born in the Backyard. By that, Izuna is also a youkai. However, though Valentine’s Servants are born in the Backyard, as they were born forth from Valentine’s intention (故意), they are different from youkai. Q22: Izuna speaks in a hybrid fashion made of words from various lands but the origin (発祥) of his dialect (方言) that is Japan was already annihilated (消滅) by the Gears lead by Justice? A22: The short story in this book touches upon it but Izuna’s personal history (生い立ち) starts from the Heian period (approximately 794 to 1185 AD). Among the main characters, that makes him the longest-living one. Before Izuna there were youkai as well, the Kappa and whatnot may have been born even further back… Please accept the explanation that Izuna acquired his hybrid manner of speaking long before the start of the Crusades. Q23: Though it looks like a theme park, what kind of settlement is Dr. Paradigm’s Ganymedes? A23: That is a settlement built by the Gears under Dr. Paradigm’s leadership. The Gears who disliked being controlled (管理) by the UN migrated to a lone island away from humanity’s eyes and there formed a civilization. In the beginning humanoid Gear(s) also lived there but they all left saying they can’t stand such a confined place. Only docile Gears remained. Though if they are discovered by humanity, they’ll probably still get aerial bombed (空爆) (smile). Q24: The book that Dr. Paradigm is reading, what kind of information is written there? A24: The book he is carrying with him is a scrapbook. He collects the necessary information he needs and puts it together as a scrapbook. In Ganymedes, there is a library in which is stored many books but that is largely comprised of books written by humans. Q25: Starting with Dr. Paradigm, what is the reason that Gears can speak the human tongue? Is it because they have human DNA inserted into them? A25: It is not because they have human DNA inserted into them. As living creatures, when they evolved, as a secondary result they attained intelligence, and only a section of the individuals were able to talk. It is rare to be able understand words and be able to speak them. Bower even can only say “woof” but in his message he says “Greedy fellow (シャバいやろうだぜ)”. It is simply that Dr. Paradigm has higher intelligence. Q26: Dr. Paradigm is an autonomous (自律型) Gear possessing self-awareness (自我). For Gears how are created as weapons, is not self-awareness a hindrance? A26: This is from the background from the first Guilty Gear but Gears are actually designed to have abolished (廃) self-awareness, with exceptional cases due to a bug there are individuals born retaining self-awareness. Those individuals by the base’s (素体) class(段階) retain their experienced memory. Testament is one of those types. Paradigm not only retained his self-awareness but also by chance gained high intelligence and with much studying has become that way. Most likely in the beginning I think he only had the cognitive function “I, bird”. Q27: Belle Kant Valley (ベル・カント) is what kind of land? A27: It is what you call coal mine. There are mineral resources that can only be found there and it is a land for the purpose of mining them. There is no deeply rooted setting background for it in the game but here bones hold as much value as cash and so they try to resolve anything via bone. Which is to say, actually as a site of the Crusades there are many Gear corpses buried. Those bones possess value as mining resources and treated like gems in business transactions. By the way, in the ravine (渓谷) where these laborers live, some of the nouveau riche have built homes of bone. The train that runs through the mine is for carrying the minerals but the laborers also use that to return home. Q28: Valentine appears as the enemy for this game. What kind of reason was she born from the Backyard? A28: At this point it is a secret. However, there exists a concrete drama relating to her birth. Q29: Valentine created the Gear Disappearance Incident in order to obtain the “key” to penetrate the Cube but what was her ultimate goal? A29: I cannot answer regarding her goal. However, she only wanted to pass through the Cube. To her, the Cube was in her fixed commuter route (定期航路), because it was there she could not proceed… only wanting to proceed on…which is why she tried to penetrate and destroy it. Q30: Valentine has the appearance similar to Sol’s former lover the woman called Aria. What is the concrete relationship between the two of them? A30: With regards to appearance, aside from Valentine’s sense of touch they are complete consistent. However, they are not the same person… is all I can say. There is a reason why they are the spitting image of each other. Q31: The “mother” that Valentine speaks of, specifically what kind of existence is it? A31: It is what That Man calls the “Compassionless Apocalypse” (慈悲なき啓示). It is the existence that sent the individual called Valentine to this world, what it is specifically is something I would like to reveal at a later time. Q32: What is the start (きっかけ) of the connection (因縁) of Sol and That Man? A32: Sol and That Man, before the Crusades were colleagues, friends (仲間) employed at the same research facility. Sol’s lover (恋人) Aria was also there. Regardless of their deep friendship [ishiwatari uses “high level”], Sol was suddenly betrayed by That Man and reconstructed into a Gear. By only a determined grudge he has been storing up the anger. Why That Man did it, it seems that Sol has never received an answer but I think I’d like to reveal the answer around the next installment after the next GG2 (次の次のGG2). Q33: Sol has been searching for That Man for over 100 years but where has he been? A33: That Man had secluded himself in the Backyard so basically he was not in this world (現世). Sol himself, until GG2 did have any proof regarding the existence of the Backyard, so even if he did accidentally meet (That Man) it would be impossible to discover (That Man). Q34: And so finally Sol and That Man meet again. How many years has it been? A34: That is a gray zone. At present I haven’t given it thought but I might want to write an episode concerning those two after this… Q35: That Man maintaining a youthful appearance, is that because like Sol he has been reconstructed as a Gear? A35: He is different from Sol, he is not maintaining his youth. He is slowly reversing (逆行) his age. Q36: From That Man and Raven’s conversation, it is revealed that Sol is being eroded (浸食) by something. Is that indicating the Gear cells? And when completely eroded what will become of Sol? A36: It is tricky about how much to reveal. Sol is being eroded by the Dragon Install. The Dragon Install in this game is different from the 2-D time but that is something that changes with each time visit (訪れる) to Sol’s internal turning point (内面的転機). There is the possibility that it will continue to change from here on, and that its final form is already known to Raven and That Man. What to expect at that final form is a secret. Q37: Raven and Sol appear to be acquainted, so they have met some time before? A37: They have. In a previously covered novel it has been written that they are old acquaintances. Q38: There is a group of fans that say Raven and Axel are the same existence… A38: Well. I don’t remember preparing any set-up about tat. But, since it is boring to completely reject it, I’ll just leave it to your imagination. Q39: In this game That Man and Raven appear but one other close aide (側近) Ino isn’t seen at all. Has she quit? A39: No, no. Ino was entrusted by That Man with a different important task and so in this incident is working in secret (暗躍). Q40: Raven and Ino, there is one more of the That Man’s close aides, what kind of character is it? A40: The identity is a secret. To appear in a later story. Q41: The other Guilty Gear characters, what kind of state were they in during this incident? A41: It is different for the various characters but I think they would at least hear news of it. Johnny and Potemkin with lots of political channel (access) probably can get highly accurate information, Chipp as well who is studying with all his might behind the scenes to become President must be well-informed as well (smile). Q42: What is this about “Chipp is President”? A42: Actually, it is one of the episodes between Guilty Gear XX and GG2, that that establishes Chipp active in the election. In what country he is active in, the results are a secret. (smile) Q43: What is the “chimaki” that appears in this game? A43: It is a character born in the magazine’s reader’s page but since even the Guilty Gear series would like to establish a mascot, it is a character made from adult idea (発想). There is a tentative background that he was an incredibly strong person, a warrior part of an organization called C1000Gumi and that after completing his goal he was fired (お払い箱)… Q44: With a word, how would you explain what are the Master Ghost? A44: A stand. (smile) It is the embodiment (具現化), visualization (可視化) in this world (現世) of the soul various people have in the Backyard. Q45: And the definition (定義) of Servants? Sin’s and Ky’s Servants are different from humans aren’t they? A45: Just like the Master Ghost, they are the embodiment (具現化) of the soul in the Backyard. For the convenience of the game, they are called Servants but strictly speaking, only Sol, Valentine, Izuna, and Sin fit in this. With regards to Dr. Paradigm and Ky, the former is Gears, the latter is humans. Essentially Servants are an existence that cannot interfere (干渉) with ordinary living beings but by the story’s process (過程) have gained the means (術) to interfere… is the set-up (設定). By the way, Izuna calls his Servants his youkai friends but since they were formed (形成) in the Backyard they fall under the Servant classification. Q46: What kind of world is the Backyard? A parallel world? A46: That is incorrect. As an example, the relationship between a game and the computer is close. The manufacturing process (工程) of producing a game from the computer is created by various factors (要因). That completed game is “this world” (現世). There is no intervention (介在) of intention (意図) there, like the life created by the ocean “this world” is spontaneously (自然発生的) created. The computer which is to say the hardware that possesses the potential is the Backyard. Q47: The Cube in the Backyard, that was created by someone for something wasn’t it? A47: I cannot reveal the details but a simple explanation is that it is an object (物体) that surrounds the information in the Backyard of Earth’s formation (形成). The one who made it is That Man. He has the perspective that should the “Compassionless Apocalypse” (慈悲なき啓示) come in contact with the Cube, it would likely mean the destruction of humanity, and therefore made an appearance to prevent that. As a result, the goal of sending Sol into the Backyard and having Valentine defeated was accomplished but even if Sol failed, That Man himself would have prevented it. He is no token existence, either sending in his associates or invoking his own hidden power have the possibility of resolving the incident. Q48: GG2 is going to be released overseas, so what kind of contents does it have? A47: It is the same as the one in Japan with the updates though not just the text but the voices have also been requested and re-recorded. The Masters and the Servants and everything. The substance was not literally translated but worked together in detail with the staff , reproduced faithfully with “This kind of nuance”. For Izuna’s hybrid manner of speaking, it is a British, American, Ireland dialect mixed spirited (渾身) quality. And then Dr. Paradigm’s voice is abnormally cool is a highlight. With the North American release, it will finally be possible for world-wide matches. I wish that everyone gains more enjoyment from the matches. Q49: The prospect of the continuation of GG2? A49: It’s the feeling of “President (社長) let me make it please!”. In terms of action, RTS, and of course Drama, I have the confidence to make it interesting. Of course I want to add new character(s). I’d like to have something like Chipp on the election car or a completely mechanized Potemkin. Actually, there is already a completed design for the latter… (smile). Q50: Finally a message to the readers. A50: GG2 is a work that I put a lot of my spirit into. I think it would be regrettable that all of that material would be buried like this. I am very grateful for the opportunity in this book to reveal all that. Though in the game they were drawn “western-like(?)” (洋ゲーテイスト) I think it would be good if the charm of the characters widened with seeing the setting illustrations. I hope that for those who have yet to play GG2 it can help to expand the world view.

I smell a Drama CD in the works... *sniffsniff* :keke:

Its kinda' funny that Chipp would be a candidate for the election. I would hardly imagine when Chipp is elected as the President. Lol Considering his attitude through out the Game, its just..too hard to imagine it man, haha!

Posted

He initially wanted to become President to control the Assassin's Guild (if I remember the #Reload story mode correctly), but then he apparently had a hand in dissolving the ties between "That Country" and the AG, so... what, now he just wants to be President? Also, either Daisuke is unfamiliar with our Constitution (entirely understandable) or just wanted to see change - apparently Erica was voted President at the age of 21. You'd need to be 35 (and a born Citizen) to actually be President. Chipp doesn't qualify yet, either.

Dude, considering Ishiwatari's attitude, I'm pretty sure he won't let us down...wouldn't he? I really hope that the Maiden of Grove isn't her.. I hope he will come out something new!! Personally, I think he's pretty considerate about GG's fans and will try to satisfy them as much as possible! :OS::IN::SO:

Before Ishiwatari reveals any updates for the future, we probably will just have to assume it's Dizzy. :keke: Since every evidence is pointing towards her and also I'm really, really curious about the 3rd servant of "That Man". So far there are only Raven and I-No.. can it possible be a clone of Aria or something close to that?? I'm getting really excited!!! :yaaay:

I'm with you on this one, RockYou424. :JU:

Really, A Country is a sight different from "our" America, in fact it isn't remotely like it at all from what I understand. America is apparently dissolved in this era and is more a collective of territories that stayed together on the continent, to say nothing of what got destroyed during the Crusades...

Know what? Ky and "That Woman" should try for a second child. A daughter this time so Sin will stay to babysit his little sister. Who knows, she might even look like Dizzy....and then it will finally become a happy family. As long as Sol doesn't butt in. That usually means trouble whenever he's involved. Also, That Man's third servant. I think it's Anji. Since I-No's alive in the timeline of Overture, Anji must still be working with That Man AND keeping an eye on Baiken. That completes the question on That Man's three servants right? I-No, Raven, and Anji?

@Lou 1. "That Woman"...lol....sounds like "That Man"'s distant cousin. 2. Somehow I don't think Anji's the type to wear a goofy "tube" hat, going by the silhouette images I've seen of That Man's henchman...and he's not some creepy thing crawling along the ceiling like in the Lightning the Argent Novel pic.

So Anji is the 3rd servant of "That Man" ah :?: Judging from his A Core Plus ending it's true..

But didn't that man also something about "Aria" :?:

He said that Aria will not wait any longer at the end of game...

Hmmm, its getting a bit weird :gonk: :gonk: :gonk:

there are only three possibilities: clones of Aria, Anji, or a new character.

I assume its gonna be more close to an Aria clone or something.

Haha, if the Kiske family gets another baby, that'll be hilarious. Cripes that would be so fuckin' adorable. Although it makes me wonder how long half-Gear-babies need to gestate or whatever.

I think Anji's definitely turnin' out to be That Man's servant, but I dunno if he's Cone Head. If I recall correctly, that guy was seen in ending artwork since X Plus, and Anji at that time was just running around and askin' questions or something. These are his servants, right?

Raven

I-no

Cone Head

Anji

Eddie(?)

On a side note, I hope other GG characters join up with That Man.

Jeez sthough, all this speculation, while awesome, really makes me wish there was a dedicated group that made a kickass doujin-game with IPF Ky. Or somthin' other than just drama CDs and novels. D:
