MasterXDrake Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I'm not surprised at all by the sales figure, seeing as how this game wasn't advertised whatsoever. Not gonna get people to buy it if they don't even know what it is. Either way, niche title. Was never gonna roll heads. And it's that kind of mentality that's gonna make this series die out into obscruity again. How can it survive if even it's own fans won't support it? A lot of people's mains are gone. Get over it and adapt. Try out another character or maybe one of the new characters, you might surprise yourself. I've used Testament since the original XX2 and I find it highly ulikely he will be returning anytime soon. So screw it, I picked up Millia. As long as I get to play Guilty Gear I'll be happy. Guilty Gear is back man. So buckle up and rock. How can you blame the fans? Arcy is at fault here. They keep doing this BS practice. To blame the fans is idiotic.
Poultrygeist Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Excluding your favorite character is not a BS practice lol. That's gotta be one of the most childish things I've ever heard.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 How can you blame the fans? Arcy is at fault here. They keep doing this BS practice. To blame the fans is idiotic. Wait, what? Either this has a lot of holes in the argument or I am completely misunderstanding what you're saying. I assume the latter, so please clarify.
JyakotuKurayami Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 To be fair, I did play the game for a bit and didn't like it overall. The characters I tried were boring to play. Ky is boring, Sol is boring, Zato-1 is boring, and I have ZERO interest in the rest of the cast. The only character I like playing with is Bridget and only Bridget. If he never comes back in the Xrd series, then I'm done with Guilty Gear period. I don't like the current cast and I do not like any of the new characters introduced in this iteration. But this is my personal opinion and my opinion won't stop others from buying the game.
Poultrygeist Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Well we're not putting you on blast, we're talking to that other dude who seems to think not having your favorite character is a "bad business practice" which is laughable.

TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Actually Layer did call him out specifically, saying his mentality would be the reason Xrd would do poorly. I mean, I understand really. There are certain games that I am only interested in due to certain characters. Like, if the next Soul Calibur had no Maxi and no other interesting character to me, I would probably not play it. Some games we like for the characters, and some games we like for the game itself. It is what it is.
TheRealBobMan Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I hope sales pick up, but honestly for the initial rush of the game, you can't be that surprised. Fighting games are appealing more to casual players now than before, but most of them either bought SF4 because that's what everyone plays, or if they're into "Anime fighters" they got P4AU. They probably don't have much incentive to buy another fighting game right now. It doesn't help that this release date for the US is after the bullshit frenzy that is "Black Friday". All the dumb impulse buys occur around that week. As far as staying power though, most people just splurged on PS4s, so give it a month or two past Christmas for them to beat the games that were included in those bundles and they might be interested in something else. There aren't many other fighting game options on PS4, so they'll hopefully see sales there eventually. The main target demographic for this game is sort of segmented now. They included around half of the original characters, so most of the existing fan base is continuing to play +R. M.O.M is cool, but as far as I know it's not the same as the equivalent modes in BB where if you fail you can just keep grinding and leveling up to compensate for sucking, which is appealing when first starting out (and you're unlocking artwork, color pallets and all that jazz in the process). Story mode is cool, but as this is the first game to come out in so long, a lot of the new audience they're reaching for has to get hooked on it first or it wont keep them coming back, so it's not going to have as big an effect as BB's story mode 4+ iterations in. Story mode doesn't have those silly little choices to go for the real ending or get a gag ending with boobs either, so there's a little less of a "dating sim-esque" hook there for the next iteration. This is going to matter one or two revisions from now, but right now it's barely helping. That's problematic though, because people expect another iteration of the game. They've seen this business practice before, and half of the characters are missing. They have to come back some time right? This might cause people to hold out on getting GG, especially if they just bought P4AU or some other fighting game a few months ago. As far as the existing numbers, those are just Japan sales right? I honestly don't expect the US sales to be all that much better. The game is getting good reviews (sitting at 89 on metacritic), but no one is reviewing it or giving it any sort of exposure (it has 6 reviews at the moment). Wanna see how big the IGN review is? "Inciting a revolution in the Guilty Gear fighting franchise, Guilty Gear Xrd is the first game of the series to utilize Unreal Engine technology for the look and feel of an animated fight come alive! While Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- may look 2D, everything is in 3D, freeing the camera to be as dynamic as possible. At its heart, however, is still deep, balanced 2D fighter gameplay. Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- continues the tradition of tight and technical combat, and streamlines the gaming mechanics to make them accessible for the next generation of fighting gamer. Favorites such as the Roman Cancel system have been enhanced, so get ready to slow down time on your opponent and shred their health meter." That's their review. One paragraph; Five sentences. Anyway, that bug where you buy one system voice and get another is terrible. I hope they fix that ASAP. I'd be pissed if it happened to me. If you're buying an individual voice instead of the pack, it's because you want that voice. Dammit Arcsys, why did I only see one or two internal QA testers at your company when I watched the credits after story mode?
Guilty Valentine Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 With Xrd selling like ass and BB basically killing itself by releasing a full price disc for the next update, it's up to P4A to keep ASW afloat. Go Persona go! That's confirmed for CP 2.0 now? I don't think there's anything overtly surprising about those numbers. Plus looking at the games above it, portables are dominant, which is consistent with what has been said about the gaming market in Japan. So chance for Vita Xrd? So I don't have to buy another console..
TITANIUM BEAST!!! Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Ehhhh, given how the game runs on PS3, I doubt they'd want to try and port it to Vita. The PS4 version is the definitive version without question.
JyakotuKurayami Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I have my doubts that you actually like Guilty Gear. You sound a typical Waifu-Fag. I do like Guilty Gear, what makes you think I wouldn't? There are many different kinds of players and fans of a series. If a certain character is not in the game and none of the other characters interest you, then why play the game at all? You wouldn't take it as seriously because you're not playing a character you truly enjoy. Competitive players have no choice but to adapt, but as someone who plays the game for fun and casually with my friends, I care about more than just the mechanics. I like Guilty Gear for Bridget and since he's not in Xrd and none of the other characters or the new characters grabbed my interest, I have no intention on supporting this iteration until further notice.
nyyyyy Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Am I mixing something up or does anybody else recall ArcSys saying that the majority of the cast wont make a return in Xrd? I think I remember them saying that around june.
Kyosuke Kagami Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Ehhhh, given how the game runs on PS3, I doubt they'd want to try and port it to Vita. The PS4 version is the definitive version without question. Actually the Vita port isn't an impossible idea, and if Arcsys sees monies there they may take the risk. The problem will be: game would have to get even more sacrifices than the PS3 version. Just look how lol MK9 (shitty models, decent backgrounds and effects) or UMVC3 (good models, SHIT effects and static backgrounds) are in Vita.

I think I remember them saying that around june. No, they said the opposite, they were going to work (maybe not for Xrd but for future iterations) to bring as many old chars back as possible. They're still missing one char from the first game (Testy) and 3 from X (Anji and Johnny would be awesome, Jam can go root in hell for what I care ), so...

I heard Johnny is actually in the story mode. If that's the case, then him becoming future DLC wouldn't be so farfetched.
Kyosuke Kagami Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Yeah, I'm sure Johnny will be back in the next GGXrd sequel, same with Dizzy. I hope Izuna or the Doc Paradigm can also become playable in a future.

I think I remember them saying that around june. IIRC, that was said about the arcade release when it was about to come out. Ishiwatari has otherwise said that they intend to eventually add the rest of the cast.

Actually this right her makes me tinhk that rather than "guilty gear" you like bridget. Nothing in there says much about actually likeing the game beyond claiming you do on the first sentance. I'm not trying to say say "what a waifufag" or anything, but rather I'm trying to clarify what makes people think you don't like guilty gear. You haven't pointed to anytihng you like EXCEPT Bridget,
JyakotuKurayami Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I bring up Bridget a lot because it was Bridget that actually got me interested in Guilty Gear in the first place. When I saw the design and learned more about him, my interest in the series peaked and I had to play it. Thus, I sat down with friends and learned the mechanics of the games and then went on to learn Bridget overall. Needless to say, I put Bridget on a pedestal because he was my gateway into Guilty Gear. The character was just so different from most characters I would main in other 2D fighters like Street Fighter and KOF and his style is just fun, especially in a game as fast as Guilty Gear. So sorry if it seems like the only reason I like Guilty Gear is Bridget, but that is not true. He is a LARGE reason why I like GG, but that's only because he is fun to play with due to the game's fighting mechanics and fast paced action.

nyyyyy Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 If they add PS3 controller support for the PS4 version I might be willing to boost the sales numbers by buying the PS4 version as well.
