IIRC it has been stated that game developers can program PS3 stick support into the game, but they will not work on the PS4 by default

Oh, never read something like that.

The stick question is a matter of hard- not software. If the PS4 would work with PS3 Sticks, so would Xrd. But idk if PS3 sticks work with the PS4, since the Hori RAP V4 has a switch for PS3/PS4 mode.

The stick that Markman showed during SEAM had a switch between PS3/PS4 modes so you can say that the new stick will be backwards compatible, but not the old sticks unless something changes.

In all honestly why would they change it? Forcing people into buying brand new sticks is great buisness for them.

Doesn't Under Night use different sprites for characters depending on which side of the screen they're on? Or am I not remembering that correctly?

No, that only applies to Hilda, and that's only so they can show off her two-tone design better [much like Gil in Street Fighter III], also they aren't making two separate sprites, just programming it so that the colors on each side of her dress flip appropriately.

Again, with Xrd, they can make sprites react naturally to being on different sides, but they are choosing not to, this is for the sake of consistency and ensuring that the "best quality" of the model is always shown. The new Smash Bros. game also made this change, where all the older games just had the models react normally, in the 3DS/Wii U iteration all the models will be mirrored.

It looks like xrd players have leveled up recently, judging from new stuff from goldenrody:0

I've been hearing lately that Xrd hasn't been doing well in arcades in terms of popularity, is it true?

Anyone currently in Japan can confirm/deny this?

You can't find a place to practice in weekends.

Same thing with the major Arcades during the work days after 7 pm.

Just came back from Shinjuku sport land.

And I can't believe how many good players were there!

Lol I don't know why I run into Muchi Sol (Mugen) at any Arcade i go to.

I am afraid that he thinks that I am stalking him.

Yeah, all play rooms return from CP, but now with a better queuing system since you can have people "line up" at particular cabinets or wait "outside". I'm interested in the little movie reel icon in the parameter settings, perhaps a "quick" style option that skips intro/outro scenes, and perhaps even minimizes character select (this used to be a huge feature of fighters pre-PS2 era, not quite sure why it faded away, then again probably getting my hopes up lol)

Sad that it looks like Mission mode is the now obligatory combo challenge, I miss the XX match challenges, especially with AC allowing you to freely pick your character. Also somewhat disappointed [assuming] that Story mode looks like it might go the plain visual novel route, just using stock models instead of illustrations (though if they have limited animation for position shifts, that'd be cool . . .) for a bulk of the narrative.

Still no solid date ; -; my body is beyond ready . . .

I visited Japan recently, and it really depended on the arcade from what I could tell. Some arcades seemed to have a thriving Xrd scene, while others didn't seem to have much going on in terms of Xrd.

I thought exactly the same. Is like they are on a complete different league now (particulary when compared to earlier vids).

Challenge Mode is definitely not the same as Mission Mode, by any stretch.

They could still go for it, if they so wanted.

Some things I'd like to see later on (when the roster gets bigger):

---Isuka Mode (c'mon we allll want this..., especially online 4 way battles)

---Boost Mode (like Tekken Force Mode and probably easier now that it's 3D)

---Team Battle (for the KOF fans)

Wait, will rooms be able to mix and match and have multiple matches go on simultaneously, or just tournament style? Either way is pretty cool.

Isuka mode would be hype. Heck, a Tekken Force or old school beat em 'up mode. (I had a vision of Ragna taking out hordes of NOL on his way to the cauldron). Hordes of Robo-Kys....

People "lining up" are spectators. You will also be able to play using M.O.M. enhanced characters in player matches.

Mission mode is not Challenge mode; they list all 4 sub modes of Practice Mode (Tutorial, Mission, Challenge, Training) but only go into details for the first 2.

This is pretty correct.  This can be said about pretty much any game though.  Certain arcades are just kind of chosen by players to be hot spots where they like to gather.  Overall though, Xrd is doing quite well in arcades.  The numbers for Arc Revo quals are not extremely high in general but I think it is simply because a lot of people just don't feel confident enough to compete or have busy schedules and can't make it to a lot of them.  As far as people who show up to other various tournaments or casuals, there are quite a lot of them.  This year, the schedule is much more condensed into a smaller time frame so there are more tournaments going on at the same time as eachother as well. I think the game is doing quite well overall.

So glad ASW didn't take the Netherrealm studios route. Keep it VN style. I don`t want GGXrd story to be a 5 hours movie.

Yeah, Team Ninja tried the Netherrealm route with DOA5 story mode, and it turned out as a disorganized mess of barely connected mini-stories with too many loose, unexplained ends.

The reason MK9 story mode worked because it had a crutch of it being in part a retelling of MK1-3, where the fans with prior knowledge of MK lore can reach logical conclusions on things that were glossed over or not explained.

I can deal with a lot of the hate MK9 gets, but that game probably had the best story mode of any fighting game I've ever played. Messy or not, at least it was interesting. The whole VN thing is agonizingly dull, and dull is the one thing a fighter should NEVER be under any circumstances.

You pretty much just described the story routes from Accent Core Plus. How well a story is told has very little to do with the mode of its presentation.

And it's hard for Slayer to get bad colors. I would still like new ones for the whole cast on console though.
