ELC1837 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 First, shoutout to Kamuimoon for inspiring me to pick up Order Sol in the first place. Without spending time in the lab dedicated to this particular character, I would have never done so for other fighting games, and thus would have never discovered my preferred character archetype. But while I'm grateful for that, I'm considering dropping HOS in favor of a character that fits that preferred archetype. I've been out of the game too long to remember how all of the characters function, and was never that deep in the first place to just play it by ear. So, I'm asking y'all: who would suit me as a main? To give some more information, I main C.Viper in MvC3 (only character I used on all teams), Catwoman in Injustice, and Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 9 (though notable mention goes to Mileena). My preferred spacing seems to be somewhere between half-screen and touching, and I seem to favor a combination of mix-up pressure and punishing an opponent's mistakes in a variety of spacing scenarios.
Ronove Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I'm tempted to say Slayer too but you should simply try them all, watch videos and see which one clicks better for you. There's really no better method than trying each of them out yourself.
Dreiko Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Dunno, those things make O-Sol sound like he fits you. Though Slayer would be good too, yeah.
ELC1837 Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 @ Slayer: Interesting ... I'm unfamiliar with Slayer's gameplan other than Mappa and Mappa feints: how hard is he to play on a PS3 or PS2 pad? @ Justice: I'll have to try her out, but tbh she seems to be a bit too turtle-based for my liking. Wouldn't mind being wrong though: Meet Again is such a great theme. @ Chipp: I'm fairly well-versed in Chipp in the sense that I'm familiar with Teleport and Invisibility shenanigans. Though I didn't think of him as a punisher tbh ... gonna have to look into him again. @ O-Sol: Hmm ... how does HOS compare to Slayer in terms of playstyle?
Wild Candy Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I'm pretty sure Order Sol charges up like Tsubaki in BlazBlue, before rushing you like Sol Badguy While Slayer gets off on people fighint back. Once somebody gets close to him, he uses his superior range and pokes to punish you for thinking you can fight back. I think they phrased it like this on Guilty Bits. "Most Slayer Players will leave just enough rope for the foe to hang themselves."
AMB Bakery Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) Regarding playing slayer.... How consistently can you quarter circle back + dust on pad? Also, HOS is more like punish with IAD j.H/Fafnir and otherwise just wants to be in your face pressing buttons and doing specials/charge-cancelling whereas Slayer is footsies + BDC Mappa (have no idea how the hell you're going to do that on pad) and you just wait until you either land a counter hit or get them in the corner or you have meter or some combination out of those three. Otherwise it's just sweep knockdown or mappa stun, knockdown preferred cos you get a free, throw-safe overhead meaty. Wait nevermind you said you play C. Viper in ultimate, go play Millia or Jam or something. Millia is basically oki all day + fast and Jam is high-damage wallstick loops for days plus like almost every normal she has is crazy good. Chrome Homura Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I also would recommend Slayer. He's very pad friendly (BDC is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head that you can't feasibly do on pad, and even without that he's still a plenty solid character) and my gut tells me you'd like his Dandy Step tricks. Some of his combos require "links*", but they're not Tekken hard or anything. Execution requires less FRC usage than most characters (his meter usage is mostly Forcebreaks, and more Overdrives than any other character in the game (he has 3, and they're all useful) and overall fairly accessible. Plus, he's got style such that only my main can compete with him. He's a Vampire who is so ancient he's lost the capacity to give a fuck with a KO state consisting of lying on his side looking bored, wears a suit with a cross-shaped tie, drinks from his hot immortal waifu before fights, and can literally uppercut you into the next galaxy. His counterhits blow up fools so bad they wonder why he isn't just named "Mr. Dynamite". (*Links meaning tight-timing cancels reminiscent of SF4 combos, but less difficult)
OneSanitarium Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 BDC shouldn't be too hard on pad. At least, not BDC Mappa. If you can DoT, you can do that.
Elochai Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 go play Millia or Jam or something. Millia is basically oki all day + fast and Jam is high-damage wallstick loops for days plus like almost every normal she has is crazy good. I second Millia.
BoltofShadow Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Slayer is able to get great damage off of nearly anything, I main him so I would know. Slayer also gets points for immense satisfaction whenever you get off a ForceBreak. I can also mention Baiken for some guard canceling tricks as well as having a GET OVER HERE! I'm not the biggest GG person so I may have some things wrong.
Circuitous Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Slayer is able to get great damage off of nearly anything, I main him so I would know. In AC, at least...
BoltofShadow Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Like I said i'm not the biggest GG guy so i'm sorry for any misconceptions.
Circuitous Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 His general damage got nerfed pretty hard in +R, and his good damage takes even more work to get. So if you're after big damage, Slayer might not be the way to go. Unless you like him! Then go nuts.
ELC1837 Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 @ Circ: What's up man? You still go to Arcade Legacy? @ Milia: I'm liking Slayer on a fundamental basis but Ill bite: how do you play her?
Rhiya Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 General Millia gameplan is: get in, using pin to cover entry if possible>hit them>achieve knockdown>raperaperape with okizeme back into okizeme>win
