gli Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Yeah. Gotta lower expectations in the lobby system. Player Matches are where it's at for a more controlled environment. Although why they did away with counting win/loss in player matches is a shame. I guess it isn't too much trouble to keep a manual count if you are doing a ft5/ft10
mAc Chaos Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 There is literally no reason to do away with it when it was already something they had as a feature. What, did they not know how to do it all of a sudden?
TAI-X Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I don't hate the arcade lobbies as much as some of you folks do, but I wish that ranked match wasn't a wasteland for US players. I think it's because no one knows how to restrict searches to their own region.
Luminos564 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Honestly, opening up firefox should come with a mandatory spit in the face and a random racial slur, a little reminder you're entering the cyber toilet would do people good. Permission to sig good sir/madam? And yeah, I'd have thought that the Lobby was designed to prevent line-ups rather than enforcing them. Like if you can't be arsed to wait because nobody is letting others know they are playing a "set" so you go to one of the other, empty cabs and play someone else. Or is there just way too many people in a Lobby and people end up having to wait anyway? 'Cause if that's true, I can't imagine how it'll look like in March when more new blood shows up.

'Cause if that's true, I can't imagine how it'll look like in March when more new blood shows up. More like plenty of people, mostly shit connections, and the people with good ones are already playing, and they or their opponent always go for the salty runback. Half the people in there have connections so bad I cannot even start a match with them. And I won't play 0 or 1 bar unless I'm desperate or it's someone I know. Most people try to stick to 3 bar and up.

Someone was complaining about this on another forum where they were asking people to only play within their region in order to not screw (read: cause lag) with other people's matches. Of course, I am not particularly fond of that kind of segregation either. If you're just going to force people to play within their own region on a worldwide network, then why even have an online mode in the first place?
Errol Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 There is literally no reason to do away with it when it was already something they had as a feature. What, did they not know how to do it all of a sudden? sometimes less is more. Some people are very concerned about their win/loss rate and will stop playing if they see that number in their face. It's real stuff, that's why blizzard got rid of it in starcraft2.

Some of the people I've seen were definitely Japanese. I played with a small group of players who originated from central america too (had ok connections with them though). However, for the most part I think they're just people in North America who either live too far away from me (though I live in the midwest...) or just have really poor connections (some people don't get that wireless = no good for fighting games, or can't get a wired connection). As for the segregation issue, you have a point. But bad connections are bad connections. Back in the day, I dreaded being paired up against Aussie teams in Halo (bet they hated it even more, since NA got host more often). Fighting games are even less tolerable in lag. I've enjoyed the few times I've found a foreign player with a miraculously good connection (played Liz mirrors against a jp player in P4A into the morning, the matches I had in CP with the central america players, etc.). I just can't take the frustration of the more common result: a match that winds up playing like I'm in molasses. Winning or losing feels awful in those conditions. I understand that lag is a shit-sucking terrible experience (especially when you hit one where it slows down to 2 frames per second). It's just that, segregation for online strikes me as a backwards step for a community that really should relish in the fact they get to fight people from all over the globe. I love how I can fight someone from Japan only for my next opponent to be someone in say France, Mexico or the States. I just sort of understand that no matter how good your connection is (wireless user here since wired isn't an option ATM) that there will always be some instance where lag happens and there really is no surefire way to get rid of it outside of simply not playing online and sticking to offline scenes/tourneys.
Dreiko Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I've had this happen multiple times, added a good few more people to my friends list. Right, same here. This is how it's supposed to be as far as I'm concerned. I've never just sat by two people playing and waited to jump in, I just took up an empty cabinet. I don't understand the thinking behind waiting when there's 30 empty seats and 10 other people walking around.
BoltofShadow Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 It gets annoying when you say, recognize someone from here and wanna play em, but can't "interupt" or don't want to. Not that big of a deal though, and if you're still making rivals then you're having fun and learning as far as i'm concerned.

I've done this before.
Ctrlaltwtf Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 (edited) I would like to also point out that there is an "Auto-Match" feature in the Arcade Lobby menu that is completely impartial and indifferent to your feelings. This can cause a lot of the stuff you are all saying. If you want a regulated loser-out lobby or private sets thankfully we still have Player Matches for that (and they're way better than ever before!). Admittedly at this stage in Netplay it's a bit weird trying to find a NA Player Match Lobby due to the fact that nearly all of them are JP and the NA ones aren't always noticeable. LegendaryRath Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Here's my view on this. Don't take this too seriously. Don't complain about a new system that isn't perfect. There's two logical ways to look at arcade lobbies: 1) As a solution to common annoyances and limitations that ranked/player-matches had, or 2) as an alternative to those systems with its own set of pros and cons. It's completely unreasonable to jump to the conclusion that something is both awful and an utter failure, just because it isn't perfect in every way. I can't argue that things can't be improved upon, but, as a first try, asw did a pretty nice job here. At the very least, they proved that this system can work, even if it might need finagling to be as good as it can be. I don't see why people are bringing up the point of segregation of regions. Your connection and willingness to play bad ones limit who you can and can't play with. I honestly believe that asw spread servers around, simply so people could find whichever one is most compatible with them. In all honestly, if you were looking for good, solid matches, then you already fit into netplay segregation, limiting yourself to only those whose connections are decent. Yes it's annoying that people cut in line. Even though this is the internet, this is also a community (in a sense). You interact with and recognize people. You remember how they treated you. It's understandable to be frustrated when someone takes your spot when you've been patiently waiting. Just don't be too serious about it. They could just be a jerk, but they might not have noticed you were waiting unless you made it very apparent. I'd like to at least assume that, I guess. Sometimes, when I've been playing a set with some random I've found and we clearly don't want to stop, I hate seeing someone steal the loser's place. Waiting in line or not, neither of us wanted to play him. When this happens to me and I won the last match, I just get up and find a different cabinet so I can keep playing this particular stranger. Player lobbies might be a better idea for playing a long set, but I never would have met this individual if I had not been in this "arcade". I'll play with them as much as I can, and probably send a friend request once it's all over. These arcade lobbies are convenient. It's why we use them. Be willing to be patient, regarding both time, and strangers. It's better than player lobbies in a lot of ways. If you disagree or the "arcade" doesn't suit your situation, then try player lobbies instead. They're great this time around too. The arcade probably wasn't intended to replace anything, just give us another option.
mAc Chaos Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 sometimes less is more. Some people are very concerned about their win/loss rate and will stop playing if they see that number in their face. It's real stuff, that's why blizzard got rid of it in starcraft2. That is more of a thing for ranked. Does it still keep track of your overall wins and losses for your account? It's just too much. Almost every game has stats and nobody cries about those. Like Halo or CoD. K/D is one of the most focused on things.

This meetup of people is the PURPOSE of the online lobbies. To negate that so that people can take turns when there's half of the room with empty cabinets and a bunch of other players not playing is just dumb.
Solless Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 So, after all this talk I have a question: Why don't you ask to play the winner? Isn't that why they put in a text chat function? I mean, if this whole thread is a debate about etiquette is there a reason why we haven't touched on this particular part of the subject?
Airk Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 So, after all this talk I have a question: Why don't you ask to play the winner? Isn't that why they put in a text chat function? I mean, if this whole thread is a debate about etiquette is there a reason why we haven't touched on this particular part of the subject? Because they can't see it while they're playing, and if you're going to wait for their match to end and then do something to try to get the next one, you might as well just try to jump on the cab? Or are you saying send them a PSN message or something? In that case, they probably still won't read it.
Solless Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Unless they turn the chat box off that text I think will stay there even during and after their match. I'd have matches with nothing in the box, play it, come back, and suddenly there's stuff there and no one was typing.
mAceOfHearts Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 And I won't play 0 or 1 bar unless I'm desperate or it's someone I know. Most people try to stick to 3 bar and up. I wish I could have that high standards. Since I live in Denmark, getting a decent connection with ANYONE is nigh impossible. I consider 1 bar a good connection, and anything above it is simply godlike. I don't think I've ever gotten 4 bars against anyone. (And that's counting all the time I've spent in BBCSEX)
BoltofShadow Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 When I lose I always just wait a small bit before hoping back on in case someone really wants to play them. If not however i'll run it back.
