Midnight-Zephyr Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Oh thank Cthulhu, some good news at least. I'm not going to say that Aksys are flawless but they're certainly better than Something Compelling. Eh I didn't mind Kagura going on about how much of an alpha he is considering for every attempt at playing the part (outside of actual combat at least) Makoto was right there to Galactica Impact him in the gut or when he's chewing Ragna's ass off for being weak (a "beta") because Ragna's life cannot go 5 minutes without someone insulting him in some way. Having said that though, I am not entirely sure how much I appreciated Rachel and other characters using the word "scrub". It just seemed so...out of place which is weird for a fighting game, but it really was. It wasn't used in a gag reel either, where it would have been appropriate. In my experience, unless more people start being very vocal about it, most companies are not going to even listen. But if we start letting people (read: potential buyers) know the kind of quality they are to expect, then I think we ought to get their attention. Well, at least I dont have to worry about XBlaze. I was wondering what Kagura meant by the Alpha & Beta things, and then I ran into this post on some other forum. It came from the hierarchy in packs of animals in the wild, ie. the alpha baboon that smashes all the women while the beta foreveraloner baboons just smell each others butts. And it seems that this game takes a number of FGC terms, not just scrub. It now refers to missed attacks af whiffs now, whereas in CS, it would just refer to it as a miss attack (As seen in some characters' challenge mode) just something small I noticed in the tutorial. Jin calling people scrubs kinda fits his attitude I guess (since he only really calls Noel that), but Rachel...just no.
Luminos564 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Eh, it's not really an incorrect use since scrub can be used as basically another word for "runt" (when used to refer to a person) and that doesn't count as a slang definition. It is certainly weird because as gamers we're all familiar with the slang definition. Ah, yeah I guess that makes sense. Maybe it's just weird considering who says it this time and we know it's typical use.
heavymetalmixer Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Wrong place to post this (sorry, i still don't know how to erase posts).
Tokkan Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I just saw the first Episode of the Chrono Phantasma route: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agO1lsrGmqo And I got a question: Who's Momokaka? Tao and Tora were talking about her, saying that she returned to the village from her journey and that she will leave it soon. Oh, Momokaka (in the Library she's just called "Momo") is just a character they name dropped and hinted at a future appearance of. That's probably not appropriate discussion for this thread.
beanwich Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 It's been around since CS, if not even earlier. The JP version of BB is already meme-heavy, so it only makes sense for the localization to have some, too. ...that is, where it actually makes sense. If Kagura really does call everyone betas on every possible occasion, that's clearly crossing the line. Can you please give me an example on how the JP version is meme-heavy? I'm no translation-master, but I don't really see how the Japanese version has a lot of memes in it. Then again, I'm also not familiar with very many Japanese memes, either. But if you could please show me an example, that'd be great. I despise all the meme crap they pollute the game with in English, and I also just don't like the English voices at all, to me, they sound nothing like the Japanese voices, and they sound so uninspired and lazy.
Aegis High Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I also want to see examples of the memes in the Japanese version, and I also hate the meme jokes in the BB story. It just doesn't make sense that people from the future that lives in a different world uses jokes from today internet.

I haven't played the CP story mode that far, but I believe it has quite a few BuruRaji inside jokes, which can be considered memes, I suppose?
Midnight-Zephyr Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Wasnt Platinum's Gag Reel just a parody of magical girl shows? I could see Arakune's. His gag reel was all over the place.

I never considered the fact that there could be Bururaji in there. There probably is some in there. I felt like they were probably anime parodies. At least in the Japanese version, the jokes are short, make sense, and are quickly over with until the next joke arises, but in that English disaster, it's a non-stop joke fest that makes me feel like they're not taking the game and it's story seriously, which makes the game feel like the game is one big joke itself.

So one person saying "scrub"means too much? Surely you jest. Honestly people, are we seriously resorting to bashing the english dub because it throws a few references here and there?
Luminos564 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Honestly people, are we seriously resorting to bashing the english dub because it throws a few references here and there? At this point, I think I will agree. Going all Highlander on the English Dub over the word "scrub" (I just felt it weird to be hearing it from Rachel during the story which is why I brought it up) is simply adding pebbles to Mt. Disappointment. Some were actually, kinda-sorta funny (like Jin saying "My body is ready" to Jubei). That being said, I still do not condone the other issues that have been brought up, like the falsely informing character tutorials, audio issues and lack of Library, etc. And I realize that many can and will shout "Well you can just look it up online" but, here's the thing: it shouldn't be my or anyone else's job to go out and search for information that the developers themselves were supposed to do in the first place.
Midnight-Zephyr Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I wasnt complaining about the english dub. I personally just found it out of character for Rachel to say scrub. And the text mistakes in story mode dont bother me at all (Just that Ragna vs Azrael cutscene, because the words and text didnt match at all.)
Sashi Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 There's way more than than "scrub" that I dislike about the translation. I just don't want to bother reading through it again to find stuff that bugs me.
TAI-X Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Looks like I'm going to continue importing ASW games from now on, rather than throwing money in support of their piss-poor localizations. This isn't the 1990s, you can't get away with shit like this anymore. The GameFAQs and NeoGAF kids will ensure that everyone and anyone with an interest in the game knows about it. They should have just been honest and said that they didn't translate Library mode because it was too long and hard to work with on a deadline while juggling multiple other projects. I could at least respect them on some level for that. I suspect ASW may have been trying to cover Aksys' ass with their explanation, so as not to rock the boat with their Western business ventures.
SoWL Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Except that Aksys had nothing to do with BBCP, as has been mentioned in this thread already.
TAI-X Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Fair enough. It was completely outsourced to a third party localization studio, right? I still think ASW was covering someone's asses.
TAI-X Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 I'm pretty sure the game was translated by native English speaking Westerners and not any staff from ASW or their US branch, though. It seems quite unusual that they would have specifically told this outsourced studio beforehand "yeah guys, don't even bother with Library mode, it's filled with kookoo-nutty terminology and language that those dumbass gaijin will never understand."
SuzakuRainmaker Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Honestly, I think it speaks volumes to the English voice cast that, despite having to deal with a subpar script from an absolutely pathetic team in Strangely Compelling, that they still sounded great. Well, except for Bang. Holy shit, throat-cancer!Bang almost ruined him for me. One of those times where I kinda wish BB had Street Fighter IV/X Tekken's 'select each individual character's language' dealie.
Aegis High Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Is there an error in the Blu disc that comes with the Limited Box? In the BuruRaji H episdode the audio stops in the middle of the show. Does anyone have the same prloblem?

Does anyone have the same prloblem? Yes indeed, another mastering error (or probably something different along the lines with the soundtrack problem), but yeah, its not just you, the Blue Radio excerpt does have its sound cut-off about halfway through the episode. Though the subs are still in though.

Seriously ASW, way to drop the ball on this LE. Way to go. So much for it being a collector's item that you charged us more money for, when it doesn't even work properly. In a way, this crap is even worse than Extend. Yes yes, the game had it's bugs and errors but at least they didn't randomly rearrange the numbers on the calender or have the CD that came with it have half the songs on mute that came with the LE. Sheesh.
Sourenga Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Blue Radio excerpt does have its sound cut-off about halfway through the episode. Though the subs are still in though. I've been meaning to ask, since I don't have US Limited Edition and no one has uploaded this stuff to internet, but... How bad are the subs? I mean... the episode on the disc is the 1st episode of BuruRaji Ace, right? It has fun with words "Ajifry" and "Ajidon" right from the start that even I don't know how to localize it well enough to convey the pun... Then there's Monster Hunter reference, Great Majinger, talk about Mr. Green River (Midorikawa Hikaru), complains about Kondou misreading kanji letters, Valvrave the Liberator and OreImo references and few dirty jokes by Sugita. Is there any translation notes? Can you even follow the conversation with those subs?
