I typed this into the Skype search bar, but the only thing that turned up was a real guy's name and no avatar. I want to make sure it's you. Freedom Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I was wondering if someone could give me some tips on tackling how to learn to use Margaret. I have a basic understanding of p4au but when I get into the lab I find it difficult to pin point where to start. Any advice or video would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
susano Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 ^ The first thing you want to learn is her neutral. Know what every move does and how to use them. You also have to learn how to be conservative with her persona cards and mobility as well.
TD Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Conservative is not the best word she has so many cards that a rush down reckless style isn't a terrible idea. You just have to be smart with them aka learn her neutral. Learn when to use her jd, j2d, 5b and j5b, 5a, sweep, 236c, these are her most common neutral tools. 214a slides under certain attacks, 2a is a far reaching low, 2b is a good but very unsafe anti air to whiff etc. she will mostly be controlling the horizontal front, so have answers for many varying degrees of angles approaches. Learn her gatlings. Should be fairly simple to understand after some practice. Can't jump cancel anything, can use 5b up to twice in normal string, if a was used to start a string it can be cancelled into again after the third normal in the string I believe. Has every mixup in the game but it's all slow enough to roll which really hurts her game. Either use short strings, safe strings which still tend to be short and create space, or hard read with hop jc. Learn how to block. Dp works but very short range and techable. Super dp is good though. Learn combos especially awakening ones. A very unorthodox, yet fairly simple char. You will have to learn quite a bit but she isn't too execution heavy, so you should be fine

I'm particularly having some trouble adjusting to her neutral game. The mobility of 5B/jB is nice but I don't think I'm using the persona anywhere near enough in her strings...it isn't hard playing her...it's just very different to what I'm used to. I have a lot of options with the character and need to get used to exercising all of them frequently enough to not play predictably.

Fortune Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 214214A is ~10f startup post superflash, B is slow (~43f), AB is fastest at 4 frames. The damage values are all the same. Usually you decide between A and AB depending on how much meter you want to spend & how fast Hassou Tobi needs to connect before they tech out. I don't recall seeing B used over the others. Power Slash charge is strictly for Hassou Tobi or the second Power Slash if they somehow put themselves in a situation from whiffing something.

Inahk Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Midscreen you can use jump over air turn crossup j.C on some DP's. If you do it early enough they will have their DP face the wrong way, or be put into blockstun before their character could autocorrect to the right side if they try and delay it. I don't know of anything for them in the corner, though some of the counters can be triggered with Persona attacks without Margaret being hit. Gotta do things on a character by character basis, nothing is universal.
Speakeasy Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 In the corner, I'm usually backed up so I can't get hit by wakeup reversals. I really should be safejumping, but it's just easy to bait by being far enough away to make reversals whiff when we have the range to punish with out good pokes immediately. I'm still having trouble baiting rolls; what little mileage I do have, I get out of throwing out a persona attack in pressure and waiting for them to hang themselves. I never really hit someone out of their rolls, but regular old punishing works just as well, I guess. Also, when will somebody be made mod so we can have someone to pester about everything? It doesn't look like we have one yet.

I've noticed in my first lobby matches that when I do use Margaret, I try to rush with my personas but I push the opponent so far out that they can just gap close and combo me to bits. What are some safer suggestions or starting combos I could practice with to open things up more? I practice in challenge mode whenever I can, but before I can even finish them on the opponent I'm already KO'd. All the while though, I'll keep practicing in training mode and easing back into using my fightstick. xD
