Grimsley-San Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I am a very patient person when it comes to games like these when they come out months later in NA. But, with Christmas around the corner soon I'm thinking about using my Christmas money to import this game. Is it worth it now? Or should I just wait until March? (From what I heard is the NA release)
BlueXIII Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Online has consistently been a ghost town of all the times I have checked. There are, of course, some people playing but the pool of players overall is extremely small. Extremely. I'd personally recommend you wait until March. You'll be able to get the game when it has (likely) much more people playing it, is significantly cheaper, and translated into English. It's only 3 months away and you'll have Xrd to tide you over, so to speak, until then.
NeonLights23 Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 When you got a skype group going of people that play this game, finding an online sparring partner is as easy as eating cake. look on the fourms, people have already made groups specifically made for playing uniel, just gotta find the right one ^^
Icekin Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 That, and hosting a room is a far more effective way of getting people than waiting for others.
Rhiya Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Online looks like a ghost town because most people contact each other, then make private rooms and invite. People still play, but you need to ask them directly, for the most part.

I'm just telling him what the reality is of the situation is if he gets the game. Not everyone wants to learn a game relying on outside matchmaking to get games, at least not from the start. I know I didn't. If that's fine with him, cool, but the online IS mostly "dead" generally speaking and that may or may not be a dealbreaker. I think he should be aware of that, at the very least.
susano Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I would wait until March, I agree with that. I don't play as much as I used to play myself.
Rhiya Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Actually, he's in Cali -- I know for a fact there are people he could consistently ask to netplay. Furthermore, if he's in San Jose, isn't that pretty close to where NorCal Dogfight is (since it's in San Carlos, and google is saying it's only maybe 30m)? He'd be able to get in locals without much issue. Getting the game wouldn't be bad for him, imo. He's got the scene right there.
xSanosuke Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I definitely agree with all those saying that you'd do just fine by getting the game now. There aren't a ton of people in NA playing the game online right now, but the suggestion that the online is outright "dead" is fairly off-base. I've logged on numerous times this past week as I'm just getting back into this game myself after a couple months hiatus and I've found at least one lively lobby of domestic players virtually every single time I've done so, and that's been during various times of each day. Beyond standard matchmaking there are plenty of people on this forum running many private lobbies and I've made a number of such friends just this past week and have had good sets against quite a few of them. Hell, I'd gladly go some sets with you and help you get you up to speed with the many intricacies and mechanics of the game myself, if you're looking for a dedicated training partner. At the end of the day you'd be making a perfectly good choice in importing. Aside from the fact that the price of the game has dropped a considerable amount since launch(cdjapan has it for just $48 right now) and you'd be getting a great game months in advance, you'd be getting a headstart on the many domestic buyers that are sure to arrive once the English version does drop in a few months. I'd definitely recommend importing.

I am familiar with NorCal Dogfight (I heard about it from Ernest, [ehuangsan]), but since I don't have a car yet, I don't have a reason to go as of now. (maybe until I graduate high school this year)
Rhiya Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Not to push you, but carpooling is a very real thing. It's worth the time/effort to go to locals if you have them, provided you can. I understand if you're not able to go at all for some reason beyond your control, but if you're interested in playing any game at all, going to locals is worth your time.

You're not pushing me it's no big deal, it's just that I don't know anyone from NorCal DogFight personally, and I need to keep myself focused in school.
