Consistency is good for keeping lower level players in the game, but it's irrelevant at mid to high levels of play. IMO It's important in certain kinds of games, especially in games with a lot of visual noise (team games), but in one vs one games it's pretty easy to discern what's an exception. Hidden inconsistency is worse. You can tell what's hitting you out of the air and what isn't in P4A, at a glance, you can't tell characters have different wakeup times in GG... This is why high consistency is important in a visually noisy and hard to understand game (such as an MMO or MOBA where tons of players are active and shooting particles everywhere). Essentially, if you can learn the inconsistency quickly, it's not a big deal. If you want to think GG is better than BB, there are a lot of other reasons IMO. GG has some of the best pacing out of any FG, while BB has some of the worst. GG is a lot faster, but the pace is really good more importantly. The way frame advantage/chains works, how knockdowns are rewarded, the distance to the corner and the damage are very well managed. It's a much more exciting and intense game because of that. I think the chars are a little less diverse than Blazblue in design, but most characters have more options than BB or P4A as a whole.

It's actually very, very easy to pirate steam games. The reason steam makes money is surprisingly, when people are offered a convenient way of buying a game, they will do it over pirating it. People will always pirate games for sure, but Valve (and GoG) are publishers that get money by not explicitly fucking over their userbase.

Just because something's been around for a while doesn't mean its a good mechanic. The thing is 1f jump is a powerful defensive tool in a game with ridiculous offense already and I think removing it would lower the quality of the highest level of play but anything below that tippy top level of play it's bad for game health.

man im pretty hype now, even if its just for AC+ for the time being, hopefully R happens within a reasonable timeframe. too bad I'm going to be busy until the 28th :/ for real though kliff looks so dumb.

23f on a character with a standing low and a similar startup animation to other moves probably makes an overheard harder to react to than one thats 20 frames and has a really obvious and different animation with no standing low on that character fyi. dont think frames in an overhead are the only important thing. reaction time is based off seeing rapid shape and color movement, then nuance. not to say 23f overheads are unreactable.
-
The only slowed down overhead I dislike is Ky's. He deserves to have a fast but shitty damage overhead with long range. Fits him well. I guess Arcsys just took whatever overheads were almost unreactable and didn't care, but took the typically reacted to overheads and slowed them down, but whatever. To me, the choice is questionable, but I can see why it was done and it's not going to be a huge hindrance.

The FRC timing change is weird... he still doesn't look like he has it down 100%? Other than that, I think that's the only matchup that looks a lot worse, he looks fine otherwise and Faust will likely just be his new problem child rather than just an uphill fight. Edit: The introduction of Kliff and Justice could be problematic though, and make him worse overall.

[P4A] Kanji Tatsumi Gameplay Discussion "Brofisting is in!"
Henaki replied to A.X.I.S.'s topic in Kanji Tatsumi
http://youtu.be/y4PNoo4cJlI uploading a tutorial very slowly. should be up in 2 hours. going to sleep in the meanwhile. will annotate in a couple corrections when i do. goes over fundamental gameplay more than anything. none of this bs crap that new tutorials go over and teach you nothing. unfortunately theres no editing and im a bit rambly and its done completely on the fly after 8 hours of work and with little sleep so its a bit long winded comparitively. -
Dear anyone that's close to the east coast: Might be on later (7-8pm est). Friend me if you want to play. XBL tag is KenEsque I mash supers with Kanji.
-
Yeah I just find it perplexing that they would label the patch as anything other than bug fixes.
-
Well I'm glad to know I am not special here.

what's your tag?

Dear PANDEMIC, You a truly the kindest of souls, kicking me from your room and ragequitting on me after a single match when there are a grand total of three people online in the Xbox community with a decent connection to anywhere on the East Coast. By calling me a teabagger, you have proven to me you are a rational and mature member of the fighting game community. Thank you for your time.

Sorry, it should give a bonus, not a penalty. My intention was to give examples of mechanics that would be tied into the barrier meter itself. IB gives you barrier back, alpha count subtracts, back roll subtracts etc. Barrier meter is still a bad system.
-
I have a better idea: Instead of trying to do something different and bad, do something good that works. All of the system ideas they've tried with barrier meter suck. It's a bad mechanic. The system design in blazblue (other than the drive button) is clearly the worst part of the game. Everything they're doing strikes me as rampant paranoia to make the game not Guilty Gear but in an attempt to flee from good ideas that worked in the past they're just making up new shitty ones and scrapping them revision after revision. The new burst system actually sounds like an okay spin on offensive bursts at least. Crush Trigger just sounds bad. What it is is an attempt to put player choice in depleting the other person's barrier meter. Spend meter to deplete their defensive meter which enables them to block in the air/push the other dude away. Most systems in Arc Systems games have strong interconnections with the whole of the game's flow or other systems themselves. This strikes me as an inelegant attempt to make barrier meter relevant, which you can accomplish with LESS system mechanics. Barrier meter is stupid and should either be forced onto other defensive options to make it more interesting. Making it so if you tech roll backwards, instant block, alpha counter etc it would subtract future defensive possibilities, then you encourage offensive behavior without stupid ass shitty dumb fucking unblockables for meter which everyone's going to spend barrier on no matter what.
-
crush trigger sounds like one of the worst mechanics put into a fighting game since TACs. barrier blocking in blazblue has been and remains to be a terrible system and they are trying to remedy it with more bad systems. just make it cost tension. fuck.
