  3. If no one likes Xrd, at all, people will go back to AC. There will probably be grumpy old Japanese men that only play it like there are with ST.

  7. Generally it's the job of the internal playtesters and designers to figure out appropriate damage. ArcSys needs to get general "feel" feedback from a loketest, or potential speculation (____ move seems too powerful), which can allow stuff that was missed to be looked at. The high level, nuanced tuning can't really be figured out in a few hours. "is this fun on a basic level" can be. Upped damage can, in essence, make the pace of the game feel like what it should be when the game is actually released, and get more people into rotation. Then again, ArcSys just released Kokonoe...
  8. Yep, just like #R. He got a new tackle moves, and YRC should enable him to continue pressure. The damage is higher than any other GG in general, I'm pretty sure it's just tuned up for the loketest.
  9. Eh, SF4 is the most homogenized game on the market save like, Tekken. That's not really a burden unless you're making GG or marvel style characters with high amounts of uniqueness and power. Capcom is fucking horrible at balancing though lol
  10. SF4 is not a streamlined game. It's as obtuse as 3rd Strike was, people just drank the marketing kool-aid. Not that I disagree with the flashy coat of paint though. Xrd strikes me as less obtuse than XX, but XX is a far more obtuse game than Street Fighter is. However, if Xrd releases pre 2015 in America, I have a feeling it will become the strongest non-Capcom pillar like XX was back in the day.
  11. Yeah, I'm pretty skeptical still. The other decisions are really sound so far though, they removed the mechanic that sounded terrible last time and managed to revamp FRCs to be more versatile and accessible, which is a good sign IMO.
  12. I really don't understand the mechanic, but from what it sounds like you spend 25% meter for offensive protection, which seems a little too cheap for a universal mechanic. I'm just curious if it has any sort of counterplay, or it's just a super cheap reversal eater. If you can't do it while blocking, it seems to be an easy way to make offensive rushdown really good.

  14. I'd rather they reduce character homogenization even if it means scrapping other stuff. Besides, "resetting" from a base happens with a lot of reboots and sequels. Guilty Gear already suffered from some of the most insane power creep of any fighting game ever made. Also, YRC is a much, much better mechanic, fundamentally, than FRC. Blitz shield worries me, that's the biggest issue I have with other than the speed of the game, which definitely looks slower in some cases (May in general, Sol's movement). Fundamental aspects of a game should not be hard to execute, period. Blitz shield replacing Slashback and YRC replacing FRC are good choices in my book, assuming Blitz shield isn't dumb. YRC is mostly going to lead into gimmicks and combos, which is fine for a small meter price. I assume there will be edge cases where it leads into blind mixups or huge damage, but that can be tuned.
  15. That strikes me as something done for testing purposes TBH. I noticed it but didn't say anything. Then again, maybe they intend for combos to be shorter.
  16. You can just lower texture quality, background animation/poly count (especially towards lower focus/back areas) and textures can all take an easy hit. Fighting games are pretty easy to port backwards imo, since almost all the emphasis is on the characters.

  18. Yeah, it'd be cool if there was battle damage that was just head related, I guess. I-No loses hat, hair comes loose, Potemkin loses helmet etc. Wonder if it's a consistent thing.
  19. Is it just me, or are the runs slower? The moves look about the same speed, but movement looks slightly less fast. Maybe it's because it's "HDified" I dunno.

  22. Interesting, so you could like, Blitz shield and then do oki and completely destroy someone, as long as the oki is fast. Seems like a universal mechanic that would make rushing down insanely good.
  23. Does Blitz shield have recovery? So you can like, run in, blitz shield as oki and then destroy a person's reversal for an all in or what?
