Sure. My stick is out of commission for a while though, but feel free to add me up.

Pretty sure I completely fried my TE PCB. What do I need to do to replace it?
-
So I went shopping at Circuit City today, got everything I needed, but the one thing I couldn't find was Cat 5/6 8P8C crimp on Connectors and Ethernet boots. The guy there said that Cat5 plugs work just as well, and I don't think ethernet boots are really necessary.

Ugh, I give up. Every time I try to melt off the outer wire it just ends up not fitting the tiny hole. I'm going to try again when I get some actual wire strippers.
-
Alright, thanks. I'll try that and let you know how it goes. Also, this is what I've got to buy so far, lemme know if there's anything you think I need. So far all I've got is a soldering iron, solder and a solder sucker. I ordered an MC cthulu, IMP, wires, etc from lizardlick, I'm looking for general electrical stuff I can buy at a store. Digital Multimeter Cat 5 or Cat 6 ethernet cable Cat 5/6 Crimper and wire cutter/stripper. Cat 5/6 8P8C crimp on Connectors. Ethernet Jack crimper Ethernet Jack cutter Wire stripper/cutter/crimper Automatic Wire stripper/cutter/crimper 24mm drill bit (forstner or Holesaw) Ethernet boots

So today I plugged in my TE to find it wasn't working. I'd messed around with it the night before, so I assumed I fucked one of the connections up. I checked the wiring and everything looked fine. Here's the thing. I don't have reliable wire strippers, so I'd just burn down the wiring leading to the ground, D-, etc. I assume this fucked up the wires and makes them not read properly, because my soldering is pretty much fine. I took some pictures for you to help diagnose the problem. I'm thinking I'll just buy a 360 pad and use that, since as you can see I've burned my current PCB pretty bad. http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af37/saysomethincute/hhh003.jpg?t=1283652288 http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af37/saysomethincute/hhh005.jpg

Alright, thanks >_> Do you know the type of screws that are used in the TE, and where I could buy some?
-
...I managed to get myself into even more trouble, awesome! It seems I've opened and closed my TE so much that the top-left screw is worn down so much that the screwdriver doesn't move it at all.
-
Alright, thanks again for answering all my questions, I really appreciate it. I don't think I'm going to touch my TE until I attempt the mod, which is whenever my parts get here, so I'll let you know then if I run into any problems :3

Damn that video is useful. I'm soldering so much better now. Any tips for getting the wire in the hole? I know I can just suck the Solder out, but sometimes there's something in there that prevents the wire from getting in no matter what.
-
....Wish I'd watched that before I tried any sort of soldering :| I haven't cleaned the tip of my soldering iron ever... Geeeeez.
-
Oh also, does it matter if I solder two different connections (D- and 5V, for example) together? I'm having trouble getting solder small enough for just one wire

-
You must be a nice guy if you're helping me not to lose money on hasty decisions, haha. Can't wait to play you, going to be awesome. Looking forward to it :D
-
No, I'm still going with ethernet>passthrough>detachable cords. I was just wondering if that would work.
-
Sure, lemme know when you're back in Cali and we'll play some. Connection should be good then since I'm also on West Coast. I'll be glad to give you some Tao advice

So I was thinking, couldn't I just use an old xbox USB to replace my TE's original one? It has white, red, green, and a black wire. It was actually originally a 360 plug n play wired charger, but I imagine it would function fine as a replacement for the TE's usb cord. I have several of them, too.

Yeah, I'll probably be fine :] Thanks for dealing with my visitor message spam, I appreciate it
