  2. Singles Tournament fee will be a total of $10 per person. $5 venue and $5 prize pool. Singles tournaments will be a double-elimination bracket with seeding being given to all players with points (including i points) for the season. Tournament payout structure is 60/30/10. Doubles Tournament fee will be a total of $10 per person. $5 venue and $5 prize pool. I believe there will be some leftover money from the venue fees. This money can be either A) distributed equally back to everyone who entered the tournament or B) saved and used for future use in a tournament for possibly a cheaper venue fee or bigger prize pool. It's really up to the community as I am open to whatever. Teams will be assigned at random. The idea behind this tournament is to have fun and help the community grow. This allows newer players to experience higher level play and meet other members of the community in a competitive, but friendly environment. Format will be Waseda style. This means that both teams will (blindly) pick a "Player A" and a "Player B." A plays against A, B plays against B, and if the match still isn't decided, then the winners from each team will play against each other. Doubles tournaments will be run as a round robin if there are 6 teams or less, otherwise they will be run as a double-elimination bracket. There will be no seeding for doubles tournaments. Tournament payout structure is 80/20. Exception: Second place team is guaranteed $5 per player.
  3. Points will only be awarded for singles tournaments. Point breakdown is as follows (stolen from NCI ): 1st - 4 points 2nd - 2 points 3rd - 1 point 4th - i points i points will be used to break ties. 6. Also, to add to what I said, if two people don't show up for their match, DQ em both. first one to show up gets to play the loser's match. if neither show up, then double DQ and someone in loser's bracket gets a bye. Edit: Chun, please let me know when a date is confirmed
  7. Any idea on when's the next major? I'll try to make it if my schedule permits, but the earlier I know the better since air fares are ridiculous
  8. To add on to what Orion said, until people start getting DQ'ed, they're gonna keep taking advantage of that. Not to sound like an asshole, but it's good to hear that some people actually did get DQ'ed this tournament to move the tournament along, especially considering that this was a major event. Personally, I'd suggest running through the winners bracket up until winner's finals before starting the loser's bracket. This way, people won't get double DQ'ed and get knocked out if they are running late and it is still possible to run it back through the loser's bracket. This will also help people judge how much time they have between their matches. I'm not hating on the people running the brackets (since I was one of them in the past) but as of right now, the matches go back and forth between the winner's bracket and loser's bracket. I understand that this is to try to get everyone to play without waiting around for too long, but I still say play through the entirety of the winner's bracket minus winner's finals. My reasoning for this is: 1) There are less matches in winner's bracket than loser's bracket, so even if people do need to wait, it may not be as long as switching back and forth between winner's and loser's. 2) People will have a better understanding of when their match is coming up. If everyone knows the order that the matches will be played, it will be easier to estimate when they will be playing their next match. 3) By playing through the winner's bracket first, it keeps the people still in the winner's side "warm" as their matches come up faster and they don't need to spend a lot of time waiting around. The same can be said for the loser's side. Once the winner's bracket is finished, all the matches will already be determined except for loser's finals. At this point, if you play, you know that you'll play again relatively soon since the winner's bracket is already finished and you will know who your next opponent is. 4) It will allow you to implement the DQ policy. Say someone doesn't show up for their first match within (hypothetically) 5 minutes so they get DQ'ed. They're sent to loser's bracket. By playing through winner's first, they're given ample time to show up and won't hold up the tournament as much. If they still fail to arrive by the time their loser's bracket match comes up, then the tournament has already played roughly 40% of the matches so I only see it fair to DQ them again. No sense holding up a tournament for a person that may or may not show up. The matches can then stop at top 4 as Orion suggested. When the stream happens, play winner's finals first, then loser's semis, loser's finals, then grand finals.
  9. Hey man, I have good foot... uh... well... ??? But, we are trying to see if we can get some recorded matches going. If it comes down to it, i'll pull a nate and just bring a camera with a stand to record. We have some kind of stream on fridays, but from what i heard, the quality is pretty terrible. Your input would be much appreciated though. i'll post up the link here sometime PS *insert no-homo "miss you guys" statement here*
  10. O willy without practice you'll never block mids :3
  11. Money match at evo? And BeaverDeity, you moved here?
  12. so glad its friday tomorrow. hope to see some new faces at the casuals. maybe get some 3s in there?
  13. Hey guys, so this Friday, let's 1) talk to Jeff about getting some matches recorded and 2) go over some games and discuss the matchups
  14. Dacidbro being organized? Who'da thunk it? Sorry I can't make it, but make F.Champ respect the game lol
  15. An important thing to remember if you are going to play passive is that Tager gets meter (spark bolt) by doing nothing. This matchup is pretty much a do whatever you want matchup, just dont get hit. Tao's defensive options are relatively poor so the gadget finger mixup can be really powerful depending on the skill level of the Tager player. Tager's j.2C doesn't have as much priority as it did in CS1 now, and 6A can trade with it or even beat it clean. As Ronove said, just watch out for a lot of Tager's aerials. His air throw in particular is a good option in the matchup. Pretty much do what you want, let the Tager player leave an opening for you and punish. Well spaced j.C's are perfect for this
  16. If anyone is actually considering doing this, I'm willing to pitch in $20-$40
  17. To answer the question about Tao's jumps/actions in the air: 1) All her drive cancels (A,B,C) consume a jump (3 jumps total), 2) after performing two air-dashes, tao can no longer jump, 3) if tao IBs in the air, she gets another jump, 4) tao cannot do a j.8D after using all three jumps, and 5) tao's j.4D resets her jumps (because she touches the ground). she can jump twice, then air-dash twice and can do an unlimited amount of drives in the air as long as she doesn't use up the jumps(j.2D x N is possible). Personally, i would say this matchup is a 55/45 in Tao's favor due to her high mobility and somewhat safe pressure strings. Mu takes bigger risks in the matchup, but the damage is also more rewarding. I don't know what kind of damage Mu can get off of her 6A, but I would definitely say it's a much better option than 2C (which is why i say use it more Solar :P) And yes, you can air throw her out of her 6B. Technically, she's not off the ground until frame 12, so you can regular throw her out of it as well And Cor, I'm trying to see if I can get to NCI, but i currently has no monies /povertystatus
  18. Welcome to loke test day 1
  19. Slashback would be gdlk in BB. i'd assume you have about 6 frames to hit an instant block in BB. From what it sounds like though, instant barrier guarding is not turning into a form of push block which has its pros and cons. i feel like the changes are trying to turn it into more of a defensive type of game
  20. what i'm saying is just have those two forums link to the same thread so information isn't repeated unnecessarily and there is an equal representation of both sides compared to it being in two separate characters' threads
  21. I brought this up a few months ago, but the request was ignored, so I just wanted to bring it up again and see what comes of it. Is there any way we can have a character matchups section? Matchups are discussed in each character's subforums, but you don't get opinions from both sides of the matchup in that regard. For example, for the Jin versus Ragna matchup, is it possible to make the link in the Jin character matchups and the link in the Ragna character matchups go to the same thread so information from both sides can be discussed in the forum more than a one sided discussion. i feel like people will be able to grasp the matchups better since people can talk with a little more experience for their mains in the discussion. overall, i hope that this system will get more activity in the matchup threads and improve the level of the community in general. opinions?
  22. I feel like the break burst giving heat is unnecessary, but gives more of a reward to gold bursting in the middle of a combo. The knockback in the air is useful because there isn't enough pushback right now even with barrier guard. some characters such as jin can put you in some ridiculous blockstun in the air with a 5A dash 5A dash 5A string. also, not all attacks are AUB, but most characters 5Bs, 5Cs, 6As, and 2Cs are AUB in BB, forcing you to barrier block. For the other pushbacks, it sounds like it favors the zoners more than anything, especially the instant barrier guard. i really hope they take that one out because when approaching zoners, you need to dash then dash cancel using barrier guard. most of the time this will give you an instant block with the barrier (if you're doing it correctly) and if there's a larger pushback, that kind of defeats the purpose, making it harder to get in against zoners. sorry i can't really contribute to the GG convo as i know nothing about the game
  23. You could be like F.Champ and play MSP lol. Or you could be like the rest of the world and play wolverine akuma + who cares because the team is good enough already
  24. I'd say about a 2 frame lag on the monitors. I really need to adjust in mvc3 for my combos. bb has its 5 frame input buffer so its not as bad, but i do miss my j.8D~A loops sometimes as well. And yes bears I remember and do appreciate the fact that you guys tried to teach me gg, but it was just an overwhelming amount of info in a short time that I couldn't really learn much. that and i was still fairly new to FGs. I think if I gave gg a shot now, it'd go by much smoother, but I have the same problem as solar
