NEW ENGLAND THREAD *(A fusion of states and Shit talk)*
Vyers replied to Otakuchin's topic in Offline Community
Nazgul's getting a room at the venue. I probably will too since we now have about 9 people interested in coming. It's $89.99 per room for Friday and Saturday. As of now I'm not sure what the cost is for Sunday night or exactly what days I'll be staying. We can discuss as a group at Act if you'll be there. Also Merry Frosty Faustings!!! http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?p=483542&posted=1#post483542 -

Hmm well I think Nazgul is getting one room at the venue. I might reserve another if a lot of people are coming. (staying at the hotel it's held at may be a little more expensive, but it makes for a better experience.)... Unfortunately my car has something going on (check engine light flashing on for brief periods), I'm going to get it looked at again next week. When I had it looked over last month my mechanic couldn't figure out what the cause was. If I can't find out/fix what's wrong with my car I'm not going to drive it all the way down to Philly, because it would really suck if the engine died and stranded us halfway there. I'll keep you guys informed on my vehicle's status. If I do drive I have room for three or four people (four would be cramped). If I can't drive I'm just gonna fly down. If anyone else is driving to NEC and has room for passengers post here so everyone can discuss our options. People who are interested in a ride to NEC so far: Mindgam3, Vierge, blueNINE, Aria, Furok, agp24. -

Well we're all going, but we haven't figured out how to travel there yet. Nazgul said he's probably going to fly down, because that makes it easier for him to fit the trip around work. I usually fly down, but I was considering driving to save money this year, and blueNINE said he (and Aria if she comes) might be up for carpooling with me. The thing is I want to arrive fairly late and leave fairly early, maybe arrive late Thursday/ early Friday and leave Sunday night after tourney or early Monday morning. This would make getting work off/ getting school stuff done a lot easier for me, but I don't know how that would work for everyone else. I'd be glad to have you along if we can agree on departure and return times. -

Damn that was a great time Alex, thanks for hosting us! Playing those D&D beat em ups with four people was ridiculously fun (that last level glitch in tower of doom sucked though). Good games to all I played. Eze (I doubt I spelled your name correctly, the new Ky player that hasn't been to a tournament yet), here are some threads for up coming tournaments in New England: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7247 http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7092 http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7316 Alex you should check out Sengoku 3: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/sengoku/sengoku.htm Gonzales I'll try to make it out to your tournament(s). It's a question of how much maintenance my car needs. -

The Good, the Bad, and Ugly as Hell Baiken Matchups
Vyers replied to THE SERAPHIC 1's topic in Baiken
Not sure how good my advice is since I'm no top player, but some of it might be useful. Against Potemkin I jump around a lot throwing out j.D followed up with AD j.D, AD j.SD, dashing tatami, AD j.H, or empty jump. Mixing these up will make Potemkin leery of coming after you, and help avoid slide head into otg heat knuckle combo. Poking with j.D max range seems safe against most of Potemkin's moves, the obvious exception is Hammerfall (super armor eats the j.D and second hit connects). AD j.SD will beat out Hammerfall, but you have to get closer for the j.D to combo, so this doesn't work against some moves. AD tatami is a little riskier they seem to see it coming more often then TK IAD tatami. AD j.H will net you great damage, but it gets riskier the closer you are to the ground (If you use it at the max height it can connect, it should clash with 6P, but you won't get that high using it as a J.D AD followup) Use it as j.D follow up sparingly or not at all. Empty jump will keep Pot guessing maybe bait out a Hammerfall. Kabari well get you potemkin bustered on block guaranteed, unless you use it from max range. To avoid slide head you can 1 frame jump as well, but I find that trickier to pull off than a back dash. The timing is tight, but you can counter his j.D with Youshijin or Baku. If you're late with Youshijin it will whiff/ get blocked which leaves you open to potemkin buster so I recommend Baku. I know less about Jam. 6K is your best poke it beats out lots of Jam's normals. 2S works at long range, if it's in range of Jam's 2S that beats it out clean.(6K will work against Jam's 2S). 2D doesn't work out well Jam's 2S and 2D beat it out. In the air J.S/j.D/j.H seem to work okay. Remember to faultless defense in the air or you'll get puffball looped for 80% Counters are risky if you don't get a counter hit you die. Don't use Youshijin. Sakura works on blocked 6H, 2H, on blocked 5H Jam actually ducks below the hit box, it won't connect. Baku works on blocked 5H, 6H, j.H, j.D, 2H. Other normals are either impossible or very hard to land counter hits against -
Tried out that j.H into 2K combo. It works with an air dash or jump in, you need to wait right before you land for the 2K to combo. I wasn't able to connect 2D into j.P at first because of knock back, however it worked when I tried running in right after landing before using 2K. so to summarize: Late j.H->run->2K->c.S->2D->JC-> j.PSPSD. 154 damage vs Faust. It's also possible to connect a late j.H into 5H or 2D. Late j.H->land->5H->236K->JC->j.PKD. 164 damage vs Faust. Late j.H->land->2D->236H->JC->j.PKD. 146 damage vs Faust
-
Against most characters after landing a tatami you can follow it up with j.PSD. Some characters you need to super jump to land the j.P. For a few characters you'll want to FRC the mat and j.SD cause landing the j.P is either very hard and requires delayed timing when comboing into the mat (May, Dizzy, Bridget), or impossible (Baiken). Against Faust j.P will connect but the following j.S will whiff. Use j.PKD against him.

These Baku combos have probably been posted before somewhere, but If so I haven't been able to find them. The guide mentions 6H IAD combos but doesn't say how to follow up the IAD. I decided to post these in case they're new to somebody. The damage values are vs Testament. 6H follow up midscreen: CH 214D->6H(link)->IAD j.SPK->(land)->SJ j.SPSD. 166 damage. in the corner add: ->AD j.SD. 183 damage. or: ->AD j.SPSD. 186 damage, harder to land. 6H IAD combos do more damage and work at greater range than other Baku follow ups I've tried. Unfortunately they have very strict timing, and won't connect against crouching opponents or short characters (Zappa, May, Bridget, Baiken, Faust). Also they are very hard if not impossible to connect at point blank range. 2K follow up midscreen: CH 214D->run->2K->5S->2D->236K>SJ j.PSD->. 152 damage In corner add: ->AD->j.SD. 178 damage. or: AD->j.SPSD->. 183 damage, harder to land. 2K combos don't do as much damage, and won't connect on most characters when deep in the corner (use 2D instead). They connect from a bit further than mid range, to point blank. They work on all characters (Although you will want to FRC the tatami against lights like usual).

Hi I have a question about instant air dashing. I've always used 96 to IAD, but I've seen some people using 676. I was wondering if this backward jump input allows for faster/lower IAD's or if it's just a matter of preference?

The Good, the Bad, and Ugly as Hell Baiken Matchups
Vyers replied to THE SERAPHIC 1's topic in Baiken
Taking your advice I experimented and came up with these dust combos vs A.B.A. 5d, [8] j.khsd, j.s ]8[ j.d, AD j.sd. 137 damage. This one only works from mid to maximum range from A.B.A. when you land 5D. Any closer and the first j.D whiffs. 5d, [8] j.ssk slight delay j.d, j.s ]8[ j.d, AD j.sd. 132 damage. This combo works from any range as long as you aren't too close to the corner, in that case the first or second j.d will miss. the slight delay between j.k and j.d is to give time for A.B.A to rise a bit higher, without the delay she drops to fast and the next j.S will whiff. 5d, [8] j.ssk slight delay j.d, j.k ]8[ j.d, AD j.sd. 126 damage. This works the same as the second combo except you swap the third j.s for j.k. It works in the corner. I might be possible to add a j.d at the end of these combo's like with the standard dust combo's, but I haven't been able to connect it. -

Is there a good dust combo for A.B.A? I tried these on her: 5D, 8 j.SH, [8] j.SD, j.S ]8[ j.D, AD j.SD, j.D. 5D, [8] j.HSSD, j.S ]8[ j.D, AD j.SD, j.D. 5D, [8] j.SSSD, j.S ]8[ j.D, AD j.SD, j.D I always miss A.B.A at some point, usually with the first j.D. -
That probably would do more damage but does it work? I tried it out, but I couldn't land the iad j.d because 5h 236k launches higher then just 236k. I find that I have to wait longer between 9 and 6 in the iad motion to get the right height, and this brings me closer to the opponent before the ad begins so my j.d whiffs. edit: Nevermind I got it to work. It does 146 damage vs axl.

I devised the first combo for use against Axl who I can't hit with a tatami after a throw. The second combo I created to maximize damage. throw 5h 236k FRC> SJ j.d> AD j.s j.d FRC> 236k land> jump j.s j.d FRC> AD j.s j.d does 160 damage and costs 75% tension (and it's probably doable without that last frc). throw 236k> jump/SJ j.p j.d> AD j.s j.d FRC> 236k land> jump j.s j.d> AD j.s j.d this does 142 damage and costs 25% tension. So you're looking at a difference of 18 damage and either 25 or 50% tension. I think the extra 18 damage would be worth it, if I could do the combo without that last frc. Even if you don't think the extra damage is usually worth it, it's still useful when it will finish your opponent. However I don't use either of these combos at the moment because I only land the j.d frc tatami 1/10 of the time. Now compare my first combo to a simular combo using 326k no FRC j,p: throw 5h 236k frc> jump j.s j.d> AD j.s j.d for 135 damage. throw 236k jump/sj j.p j.d AD j.s j.d for 111 damage. A difference of 24 damage and 25% tension (maybe 20% since adding 5h and using j.s instead of j.p should net an extra 5.04%, unless their's some kind of tension gain penalty for frcing). I think the extra damage is worth it.
