  1. Oh snap I totally forgot about UCon@UCon:vbang: Maybe it would be best to change the date for battle grounds if that's possible? If they end up on the same weekend I think mirrored tourneys would be best for people that have to work Friday morning/afternoon
  2. I doubt it. You should try asking Otakuchin, if you want to know what's up
  3. Wow I think this is the first multi day tourney in New England since TGA's SBO qualifiers, count me in! I'll bring a setup for GGAC and SF4. Also I suggest pushing the Friday tournaments back a bit for people that have to work Friday afternoon then travel 2 plus hours to get to this.
  4. Damn I wish I could have seen that. Oh man, sorry to hear that:(
  5. I was a regular at TGA for several years, best arcade I ever went to by far (unfortunately they got destroyed by flooding when the pipes burst last winter). If your planning on starting your own arcade I recommend first off using Sanwa parts for all your fighting game/ shoot em up cabinets. Most people that play on stick prefer those, don't use American parts. VS style cabinets (with player 1 and player 2 using separate screens placed back to back) are a plus because that gives both players more elbow room. In terms of which fighting games to get... well you know I'm going to say GGAC since this is a guilty gear forum. I would also recommend SF4, 3rd Strike, and BB, maybe MBAA , and MVC2 (these are all games that are popular at the moment MBAA has a growing scene, 3rd Strike and Marvel are dwindling somewhat). Stay away from the newer KOF's. TGA had XI when the Japanese arcade release came out and I don't think we ever had more than 10 people for a ranbat. If you do pick up a SNK fighter you should probably go for KOF 98, KOF 2002, or Garou. You should check and see if there's a NJ scene for these games though cause SNK in general is not popular in America. You should also consider getting some rhythm games. TGA drew crowds of people to play music games. They had every bemani game except keyboard mania. The most popular rhythm games at TGA were DDR, ITG, and Beatmania IIDX; some people would travel several states away to play the rarer games like the current pop'n music or Guitar Freaks/Drummania. (Stay the hell away from Guitar Hero arcade game. $.75 for one song and it costs extra to play the premium songs fucking rip off) If you're interested in getting Racing games both Initial D and Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune have scenes. (Both these games allow you to buy paper memory cards that you can use to store data on a car, every race get's you points or cash to upgrade your car) I don't have much experience with arcade shooters outside of Espgaluda and the Gradius series. Espgaluda's fun, Gradius is not cause If you die once you lose all your power ups and you're royally fucked. For classic games Ultracade is pretty sweet, you get something like 100 games to pick from on a single cab. It's very hard to turn a profit with just an arcade. It would help a lot to also have bowling/food/other stuff to help supplement your income. As a final note fixing/replacing broken buttons/sticks/cabs quickly will earn you a lot of appreciation. Hmm you also asked for my tournament experience... I've been to about 10 ranbats at TGA (minors), 5 or 6 ACT tourneys (minors), a few Anime con tourneys (don't really count), and four majors (NEC8, Final Round 12, EVO 2009, NEC10). edit: rereading your post I realize I made an assumption that you wanted to build your own arcade, if that's not the case just take my suggestions as things to look for in a good arcade.
  6. Only the team tourney grand finals were played on the center room tv. Alan will hopefully find the missing cord to upload his videos. no videos of Vyers vs Nerdjosh side bet or Vyers vs Zidane MM:(
  7. Glad fight night at battlegrounds was a success, I'll come to these when I can (which until I succeed in upgrading my job will probably be quite rare). agp24 It's cool that you brought Garou, that's my personal favorite SNK fighter even though I play bottom tier/Freeman. Dark Stalkers 3 (Vampire Savior 2?) is awesome, Lilith's gloomy puppet show is the best super ever
  8. I'm up for it if I have work off which is a big maybe.
  9. Cool I didn't know you can connect 2k after non counter hit Baku, I'll practice confirming normal/counter hit. For air counter hit followup I do 6h>2d>JC>j.sd. It nets you a little more damage midscreen, might do less if you extend it in the corner since 6h lowers the guard bar so much. Does 2d hit higher then c.s? I noticed in your first video you used 2d to catch Slayer on the way down after landing a counter hit tatami, and later after connecting a j.k. I've caught him with c.s on the way down from a j.k launch before, but the timing is very tight.
  10. Pretty small only 11 teams for the 3v3 and 32 entrants for the singles tourney:( If you want to see full results check out the results thread: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7915
  11. You'll have to rep Baiken for me Tolore. By the way any chance you're going to Final Round this year? Yeah definitely man. FR? EVO?
  12. So I just learned that you can follow up Baku with run in 6k against some characters: CH Baku>run>6k>5h>236k>SJ>j.psd. Eddie: 180 damage 245+ if you FRC j.d into dustloop. You have to be pretty close to him, but it will connect from further away then any other character Anji: 180 damage, must be within throw range (Baikens) Potemkin: 149 damage, must be around throw range. Millia: 207 damage, must be near throw range (will connect from further then Potemkin) Faust: 164 damage, must be near throw range. substitute j.p with j.k The timing for 6k is tight, and you have to be extremely close to everyone but Eddie for j.p to connect, even with him you have to be fairly close for it to work. Not really feasible to use in a match except maybe against Eddie.
  13. I'll throw in my two cents. Baikens ideal dust combo is: 5d>8>j.s>j.h hold 8 (up)>j.s, release 8,j.d>j.sd > j.d> AD j.sd =181 damage vs Sol This one has very strict timing and it's difficult to get the last two hits in. You can reverse the order of j.s and j.h after the 5d connects, but that only lands you one more damage, and j.h won't connect after 5d at max range. An easier, but not as damaging one is: 5d> hold 8, j.sssd, release 8> j.sd> AD j.sd> j.d = 173 damage vs Sol You won't get quite as much damage, but this is much more effective then what you were using, and you can switch to the high damage one once you're comfortable with it. Also if you miss the last j.d you (usually) still get a knock down. Against Ino you don't need to frc tatami to connect with BnB. Super jump after the tatami and you can connect j.psd. It's a little easier to catch her with j.p if you SJ straight up instead of forward. If you do launch with FRC tatami use j.sd it nets you damage equal or greater to j.psd. (always more if you follow up the j.d with something) Be careful using 2H> 2D. It's possible for your opponent to shake out of stagger in time to block/ beat out 2D if they're paying attention. If you connect 6p against standing opponent you can combo it into TK youzansen. I noticed that you rarely use counters other then Sakura/Ouren. Ouren is very dangerous to use I recommend using Mawarikomi instead, Most people I play catch me with air throw or something every time I use Ouren, even if it's the first time I've used it in like 6 games. Sakura FRC is very good, Sakura without FRC or RC gets you killed, make sure you have 25%. I never saw you use Youshijinn, this move is very risky I recommend only using it after blocking a move with guaranteed counter hit, normal hit/ blocked youshijin = pain. I didn't see you use Baku either, like Sakura it's very good. Baku comes out faster then Sakura, but has much less frame advantage on block and somewhat less invincibility. You need a counter hit Baku to combo off it, but you can get more damage with it then Sakura in nearly all situations. Unlike Youshijin normal hit/ blocked Baku is safe. You can also have great fun with Baku followups. block>412D>P followup> H seal, will prevent your opponent from jumping, dashing or using the H button (no throws:keke:) for a limited time. (also you can do curse followups after normal hit Baku). If you're close enough when you land 2s on standing opponent you can follow it up with f.s> JC j.d for knockdown/ frc the J.d into dashing tatami into dustloop. J.d whiffs on short characters though. Overall your Baiken's not bad. I hope this advice helps you out. Non typo edit: I just realized you live in Mass. You should check out the New England thread, we have a decent scene spanning VT/NH/MA/CT. We have the occasional meet up in MA or CT. The ACT series is a bimonthly GGAC/SF4/BB/Random games tournament that used to be held at Digital Mayhem in Wallingford CT, DM closed so ACT will probably be moving to Battle Grounds in Vernon CT. New York and New Jersey often come to ACT as well.
  14. ganked from North Carolina thread
  15. Accent Core because Baiken is more fun to play and bottom tier can win.
  16. Sweet post up when they're uploaded, I'd like to watch those matches and see if I can find ways to improve my game, especially against Anji. Good shit beating me in singles, next time we play I'll have my May BnB down. Also thanks for waiting on me while my broken punch button was being replaced. edit: shoutouts. Frank: Thanks for the games/advice. I checked the frame data again and you are correct about FRC Sakura having massive frame advantage on block. I will practice Sakura FRC and look into frame traps for blocked FRC'd Sakura. Nazgul: Good work in teams, and way to crush me in singles to make top 8. You already had solid defense, now that your zoning's improved you are a far greater challenger. Mindgam3: You played very solid in teams, sucks that you had to leave before singles happened though, I hope despite that you and Vierge had an excellent time for your first major. Congrats on taking out blueNINE for the first time in tournament. Josh Wong: Your Ky is very solid. I love to play Ky, because I have more match up experience against him then anyone else. Good air to air, the only other Ky I've played that (If I recall correctly) used j.k to beat Baikens j.s is Jet Enduro. Your 6P clashes or beats everything I can jump in with except frc tatami -> FD/ empty jump, practice using that on reaction. HNH: You played extremely well Saturday. You took my money and (If I remember right) ocv'd my team. Good shit, and look out for next time. Also thanks again for running teams. Maryland Ino/ Steve H. for a day: I had a good time playing casuals with you Saturday night. I wish I knew more about the Ino match up so I could teach you how to fight Baiken. Also if there's Ever another mix up with your spot in brackets/ signups don't just walk away talk to whoever's running the tourney. You should come to Final Round (this goes for everyone). NappyJin: Good times playing casuals with you in GGAC and SF4. have fun at Frosty Faustings (which everyone who isn't getting raped by work/money/family stuff should go to). St1ckBuG: 5v5 was mostly our bad we'll get shit organized next time. Thanks again for running teams and singles. Also you weren't the only one to mistake someone else for me, according to my sources there were at least 4 Vyers this weekend playing in a wide variety of games most of which I don't recall entering. Alzarath: I'm sad our MM didn't happen, but I gotta say you played very well all tourney. Congrats on taking 4th, and I'm extremely impressed you took out Frank twice. Biscuits: Your pressure strings, poking, and combos have all improved. I think what you need to work on most is nerves when you get intimidated your defense cracks. A3Relgion: I'll put $20 on you for best Johnny in America. Way to OCV multiple teams. I had my best opportunity ever to beat you in tourney and I hit tetsuzansen FRC one frame too early when I would have had enough to RC it to arggh:vbang: Seriously though good games. Also congrats on taking 2nd in teams. Zidane: Once Again I must say your Anji is the best I've ever played. Congrats on 3rd/2nd in teams you were playing great all weekend. XAQshinor: I think I'm finally starting to get a feel for this matchup. I heard months ago that Baiken vs Dizzy is supposed to 6-4 Baiken, but it seems to me like the matchup is in Dizzy's favor. Either that or you're just really fucking good. Congrats on 2nd/ 2nd in teams. Mynus: I want to play your Ino more, I've never seen an American Ino pull off combos like yours, or use such vicious mix oki. Also did you not enter singles or am just blind and missing your name in results? MarlinPie: Congrats on first, thanks for the casuals. Moroha: Every time I try to get casuals with you the night before a major, shit happens and I get wicked delayed or stuck without a room to play. I don't think I played you all weekend. I'd like to get some games with you at Final Round if you're going to that. Maybe a MM if you're up for that. Eric: NECX was mad hype can't wait for next year. Also thanks for taking the time to explain the shuttle/metro/train situation to my friend Stryfe so she could get home.
  17. I really hate to say this, but I can't get the time off for this. Work combined with family affairs bodied me. ElvenShadow I'll MM you next time we get the opportunity to meet up.
  18. Not sure If I'm going yet, but I'm glad that the venue's actually on the strip this year. Easy access to cheap(er) food should help my wallet not get raped so hard by Las Vegas.
  19. HNH FT5 $20: I lose 5-3 Alzarath FT3: $10 did not happen cause you was broke:( XAQshinor FT3: $20 I lose 3-1 (glad I managed to take a game) Zidane FT3 $10: I lose 3-1 (first time I been burst grabbed) Mynus FT3 $10: I win 3-2 (scary mix ups) MacArthur Blunts FT3 $10: you didn't come. Next time though Frank the Tank FT3 $10: I win 3-2 we run it back you win 3-0 draw. (at least I made you get serious enough to play the matchup) Mr. Biscuits side bet NE vs NJ 5v5 $10: epic fail 5v5 didn't happen:( Zinac FT5 $20: never confirmed this, don't think you made it out anyways. next time? MarlinPie FT5 $10: I lose 3-0 (hate Slayer 6 way mix ups, but I gotta learn to deal) A3Religion FT3 $10: I lose 3-2/ last round. I was so close, even closer in our team tourney match. Good shit man, but I'll level up and beat you someday soon. Genstove FT3 $4: I win was this your first MM dude? You'll find that people play more serious when moneys at stake almost like tourney matches. They be good times and highly instructive. NerdJosh FT3 set A3Religon bets $5: on me Biscuits takes him up, I win 3-2. NerdJosh please come back to Guilty Gear your Faust is too fun. Total wins/losses -$56 Vyers vs New York MM Gauntlet was maximum hype. Let's do it again sometime.
  20. Yeah that was the Ino player from Delaware (sorry forgot your name again memory fail:vbang:). GGAC singles was supposed to run Saturday, but since teams ran till past 9pm it got pushed back to Sunday. Whoever Alan gave the singles registration to at the end of the night lost it. So Alan spent an hour trying to track down the names of everyone who was on that list. Ino dude signed up the day before, but he missed out on the resignups Sunday. He was ready to give up when he realized he wasn't in the bracket, but I dragged him over to Alan to sort stuff out. The first few matches were already played out which would have made it a pain to redo the brackets (especially since it was a perfect 32 man bracket). Since Steve H. hadn't actually payed, whereas Ino dude payed the previous day, Alan made him Steve H. for the day. Anyway thanks Alan and Camillo for running Guilty. Sucks about the 5v5, next time we'll just pick a 5th beforehand and allow the chance to play for the spot instead of trying to do an 8 person round robin when NE's dispersed all over Philly. Also whoever brought the fun money deserves a cookie
  21. I am working Friday like I thought so I won't be able to make it.
  22. I'll come if I have work off this day. I won't be able to ask for it off this time because I just requested 4 days off for NEC.
  23. Fuck yeah New England is up for a 5v5. $10 says New England is gonna own your sorry asses.
  24. Er, I think everyone that's driving is already full. You could look into buses/trains/flying down. Also Everyone, Jersey has challenged New England to a 5v5 Friday night. I'm down for this who else is interested in representing?
  25. the locations not bad, they don't have as many setups as DM, but there's enough to go around. The only concern is increased travel time for jersey/NY.
