  1. I'd like to make a trip down to NYC in May and go to ECT if possible, but I'm not sure I'll be able to do both. Good to hear that many of you guys will be going. You should prereg. The more people signed up the more interest/ hype there will be:yaaay: (maybe we can get some Money Matches going:BA:) If I do make it down to NYC I might be bringing 2 or 3 others with me.
  2. I'm waiting on A3Relgion and the rest of New York to get back to me on what times would work for them, and if they're going to East Coast Throwdown (If they are going to ECT I'll probably just go there instead). Once I hear from them I can figure out which/ how many days I can get off work. I was planning sometime in May between Spring/ Summer semesters. At the moment I'm planning on driving down. I could pick you guys up on the way. Cool as long as you're ready to go when I get to your place. There were too many delays on our trip to NEC; I'd like to stay on schedule this time cause there's a good chance I'll have a horrifically long shift the day/day after we return. Thursday D&D. That's cool man, I used to play that before I went back to school. Nuclear Cheese goes to fight nights almost every Friday. He lives in Nashua, so if you're free Fridays you should ask him to give you a lift. The Anime Boston Tourney results were: 1st) blueNINE. 2nd) Vyers. 3rd) Mindgam3. 4th) Nazgul. 5th) Zoob, and I think you. (I think Nazgul beat you right before my match with him so that should put you at 5th)...
  3. Is the New York Guilty Gear scene planning on going to East Coast Throwdown May 22? I'm curious because A3Religion wanted to get some games in, so I was thinking of making a trip to New York sometime in May and/ or going to ECT2.
  4. As Mindgam3 said if you live within driving distance of Vernon you should definitely check out Friday Fight Nights and the various tourneys happening at Battlegrounds. I also got my first tourney experience at Anime Boston back in 2006. Con tourneys are a nice way to ease into the competitive scene (when they're not run on laggy TV's, like the Friday tourney). I'm not sure if you noticed me, but I was the Baiken player with the head phones. On another note, A3Religion wants some Baiken practice before EVO, so I'm considering making a trip to New York sometime next month. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in tagging along if it does happen?
  5. Yeah we had to play the Friday GGAC tourney on an HD TV. Earlier in the day Manny (the guy in charge of GPX) said we'd definitely get a SD TV for the tourney, but he wasn't around when the tourney started; the guy he left in charge refused to let us take or swap a TV from another setup (there were at least 6 for Smash). Mindgam3 saved us for the Saturday tourney by bringing in his SD TV. The thing is, Anime Boston is an anime convention, and convention tournaments are never run as well as legit fighting game tourneys (except for when the tourneys are run by people that KNOW how to run a tournament, like Mindgam3's Ucon@Uconn tourneys.) Making sure the tournaments are run properly is a lower priority than preparing and facilitating the dealers room/ video game orchestra/ panels/ artist alley/ industry guests. The really sad thing about Anime Boston is the AB staff in charge of the game room (Not GPX gaming they're usually cool about this), tend to get very offended from suggestions and criticism. Their forums are often a mess, making it hard to find info on tourneys; they also do like to change tourney times with little or no warning. I've gotten chewed out in the past for asking about tourney starting times in a video game tourney thread instead of checking in the relevant thread. Apparently there was an official tourney starting times thread somewhere. (which I couldn't find either with the search function, or by searching every single page of the video game programming forums, thread by thread). One year they were going to make all tournaments pad only, for fear of theft; when stick users complained the Video Game Coordinator said they should all be able to play on pad since those were the standard controllers for the systems (fortunately they found some extension cords at the last minute to allow players to change controllers without opening their anti theft console boxes). Kind of went off on a rant there... Anyway please don't use AB as a standard for tournament quality. Every other tournament I've been to was run better than theirs. I'm just sad that this year, after preparing for past issues by bringing my own PS2/American GGAC/ extension cords, we got screwed by the HD TV takeover. Edit: VGO was amazing, and if you went to AB without seeing them perform you should:vbang:
  6. I don't recall the whole results but: Friday free entry tourney 27ish entrants(laggy HD TV cause Manny wasn't around to gank us a SD TV): 1st) blueNINE 2nd) Light-Nazgul 3rd) Vyers. Saturday $10 pot tourney 12 entrants (our prowess scared the new players away) : 1st) blueNINE $84 (grr). 2nd) Vyers $24 (pulled pork burrito, chicken curry, melon bread). 3rd) Mindgam3 $12. 4th) Light_Nazgul (Broken Window).
  7. Yep. prices are steep this year, though it would have been like $5 cheaper if you preregistered earlier. Preregistration ends in two days and it's $50 bucks at the door You'll see blueNINE, me, Nazgul, Mindgam3, Vierge, and maybe Aria. I also heard that Justo, Zorin, and Javier will be there (Jav usually runs tourneys as a staff member).
  8. Not sure I can go to this yet, but you can put me down tentatively for GGAC SSF4 and MBAA
  9. Never got a reply to my inquiry about BYOC status/ switching to American Accent Core on the Anime Boston Thread. I'll bring my extension cables and my copy of GGAC just in case. Anyway I'm looking forward to playing in both guilty gear tourneys, it's really sweet that they're holding two for most games!
  10. Well Blazblu knocked the Guilty Gear tourney into Sunday, and both Blazblu and Melty had more preregistered players. It also didn't help that GGAC had fewer setups for casuals than both games, and fewer TV's for tournament than BB (not sure how many setups there were for the Melty tourney). Yes and it didn't help that you had to bring your own TV to play in your room. Basically people need to stop bitching about how the Guilty Gear scene is dying and play the damn game.
  11. Well it would be cool if next year it gets moved back to Saturday so we don't lose any players who have to leave Sunday afternoon. Also a Guilty Gear 3 or some sort of legit sequel would be cool. (xxx sounds too much like porn though) Edit: looking at the results GGAC had more entrants than everything except SF4 and T6.
  12. Any job's better than nothing man. I was a dishwasher for my first job.
  13. Not necessarily man I lost to a Bridget at Final Round. NerdJosh you hype for SSF4?
  14. I did a MM with Nazgul for who could clear the most stages in super mario brothers 3 (had spring break this week so I was free to meet up with him tonight). We also played some classic Guilty Gear The Missing Link, Guilty Gear X By Your Side, and random snes games I brought. . . . Also Fraga happy birthday.
  15. Super Mario Brothers 3 Vyers vs Nazgul MM results: Vyers 29 Nazgul 17 Nazgul forfeits halfway through world 6
  16. Our TV only had inputs in the back and they were all blocked off by a plate bolted over them. We didn't want to risk pulling it off and losing $150 bucks, but my group all flew down, so we had everything we needed to play but a TV. I agree that a new venue is the best idea. New England hasn't given up on Guilty Gear either, we still hold weekly fight nights and bi monthly ranbats.
  17. Vyers vs Nazgul super mario brothers 3 Money Match!!! The time: Thursday (tomorrow) night The Place: Lebanon NH Which plumber will conquer more stages? Who will lay claim to the legendary hammer bros suit? Will either player actually make use of the normally useless lullaby item? The winner earns bragging rights and the amazing monetary prize of $1.00. (because Vyers is broke and Nazgul is unemployed):mad:
  18. The team/ singles tournaments themselves were fun. I'm surprised I made it as far as I did considering my execution dropped to the point where I was fucking up TK Youzansen most of the time (Need to get more practice in/ get more sleep/ fix up my stick) Vyers MM results: Doren 2k FT3 $10: I lose 3-1. Good games man. Congrats on 3rd ZeroGen FT2 $1 (originally FT3$10, but you were low on cash): I win 2-1. Ran it back I win 2-1. Your zoning game is fantastic, and your blocking is good. I saw you make a lot of come backs from no life; You've got nerves of steel. Also your costume sweatshirt is awesome. Faulty Defense FT3 $5: I lose 3-0. You wiped the floor with me in teams. I played a little better in our MM, but I had too much trouble getting in and blocking your TK special/ force break. Never played a solid Venom before, glad to get some experience with the match up. Shoutouts: KySama: You adapted very well to my style, noticed my lack of TK youzansen/ , and came extremely close to taking me out. Honestly I was expecting to beat you cleanly. Were you at EVO last year? I think I remember playing casuals with you and your friend there. Titanium Beast: I tried to play the match properly, and poke you with 5s/2s, but I didn't have the range down, you kept sweeping me. I managed to block gunblaze too late everytime you used it too. Maybe I would done better if I resorted to scrub tactics:vbang: Pot/Bridget player from South Carolina?: Barely came back from the brink against your Potemkin only to get raped by your Bridget. Need to learn the match up. I've also learned that playing Bridget on a TV without sound is a big mistake. NE: Even if we didn't play as well as we hoped we all made it a bit further than last year.
  19. Jan and Flash played random select the whole grand finals. I had my headphones on when I was watching, so I didn't hear this directly, but I heard afterward that they agreed to split the pot for 1st/ 2nd. Didn't see many players from midwest/ westcoast maybe they're waiting for Devastion/ EVO? There were over 60 people signed up for GGAC, but several people had to leave before or during the singles tourney (this one guy from Florida had to leave, because his ride wanted to head back, sucks that GGAC got pushed back to Sunday), that probably left 50-60 players. It was hard to get casuals going for guilty gear. The hotel made everyone sign an agreement to pay $150 each time they caught people playing games in their rooms and the TVs had plastic covers screwed/ nailed into the input panel to prevent people from hooking them up. So only a few of the people that drove had setups in their rooms. Saturday we had no setup in the game rooms until like 4 in the afternoon when we got Heidern to use his staff powers and claim a TV for us.
  20. GGAC Money Matches: Doren2k $10 FT3 ZeroGen $10 FT3 In case you can't find me I'm the white guy with glasses and a black trench coat playing Baiken. Might be up for some more MM's once I get down there and know how much money I have.
  21. You should enter both on Friday, then enter the one you're more comfortable with on Sat. Since the Friday tournaments have no entry fee
  22. Well if Tinshi ever posts the video I could show you, but I'll try to explain. Basically a burst grab is when you bait your opponents burst, then avoid it by spacing (usually by not throwing out the next move they were expecting, so your hit box is out of range of their burst), or slashback. However if you're truly godlike you can jump a frame or two after your opponent uses burst, and airthrow them before the burst becomes active. They hop in the air, you hop right after and grab them. You don't even see the burst come out, but their burst meter empties. This is what Zidane did to me and what I mean by psychic burst grab
  23. He psychic burst grabbed me (air threw me before the burst came out) during our MM last NEC. That was the First time that ever happened to me and I was like:psyduck: His zoning game and tech traps are really strong too.
