  1. Next one in montreal is Massacre in october, last year it was on the 30th, following one is Nemesis in January, this year it was on the 8th. I'll let you know when we figure out more details. Toronto is having a tournament on july 16th, but their big one is T12 in august, montreal will be there. But if someone comes to montreal at any time, just let us know and we'll organize something.
  2. Good blade, that's a first step. Next you gotta replace steve rogers with jean grey. Also, Toronto on july 16th y/n?
  3. I think Brice and Steb won't be able to make it, Kirbster and Nini, will you guys be back in time for this? Anyone else interested? Blade? If not I might take a bus on Saturday morning, and stay at my uncle's on Saturday night. Or maybe I'll (or we'll) check with MTLSF if any of them are thinking of going to this. I can lend the $$ if you want to come but don't have it, I posted the total costs for the last trip a few pages ago, this one should be cheaper (1 day event). But then again I may reconsider because we did travel not too long ago and plan on doing it again for T12.
  4. Nope.jpg this game is more balanced than the last one, hazama really does feel on the same level as litchi, jin and noel. Haven't fought a good valk yet so I can't tell for him. Makoto just has that too hard to react to mixup that leads to a way too great reward. 1) I have local players on my friend's list, I can minimize the lag. 2) If they aren't online... @Blade: Maybe it would fix tager if they gave him the ability to chose the angle on his spark bolt. Don't dodge. I ended up trying something weird last night. I went into training mode, put the opponent to computer (70, because it's so random, put it too high and it becomes slightly predictable, and picked jin because I know what his stuff looks like), and tried to block all of his mixup and tech his throws. Pretty damn hard. I think lots of people are mistaking anticipation for reaction. Try it if you want to prove me wrong.
  5. I think your corner airthrow RC combo has too many SoD. For the midscreen 2A starters, I think it would be better to make them shorter, like 2A 2B 5C SoD because it always works. You start adding other moves before SoD once you get more used to it, and get a better feel for which ones will connect. I'd also recommend putting the grab combo 6A 5C 6C habacan 6A 6B 5C 6C... because it's as easy to do as the 6A 6B 6A j.2C... one, and it teaches you the general idea behind habacan.
  6. So I tried netplaying tonight, dunno why my connection was just horrible. I couldn't do combos, maybe I'm so used to using screen cues that my muscle memory got lazy... I won't even get into overheads and grabs. Can't find a game with a decent connection so I think screw it, plug the PS3. Batteries dead, can't find any others for the shitstick, my parents took the charger on their trip. Figure oh well I'll just use a controller, couldn't find the cord to charge it... ok I give up. Good night. air: some of those reminded me of the crescent loop lol. nolan: ara low B is legit. curse doesn't last as long, so he rarely kills you in 1 curse unless he goes for a reset, and even then he needed to hit you pretty quickly once the fever started.
  7. Shoutouts to LK, SKD and Zidane, being the only ones I played against in stickbug's room on friday making me go to bed thinking "incoming 0-2" lol, and thanks for the advice and exp. Shoutouts to Stickbug and Biscuits for running the tournaments and bringing the equipment. Shoutouts to Brice and Steb for making the trip with me. Shoutouts to people who let me use their stick, damn postal strike in canada, still waiting on the pieces to dual mod mine. Shoutouts to seeing the EC scene, hoepfully next time I won't be as reserved and get to know you guys. Shoutouts to to everyone who came, keep supporting the scene. Not sure yet about coming back for summer jam, but pretty sure I'll be there with more from montreal for NEC. If any of you are up for travelling across the border to Canada, there's going to be a tournament in Toronto in July and in August, and our next one in Montreal is likely going to be in October.
  8. That's great! At least we'll be able to give you some matchup exp, hopefully it will also give you the hype to complete your training before the next meetup.
  9. kr3w, at ECT there was a guy who played with a keyboard. He modded it and put a PCB inside so it worked with the consoles. I thought you'd find that funny. Kaeru, you gotta start coming back to meetups to prove your point. (srsly though we miss you lol, but I hope we aren't becoming annoying by keeping to tell you to start coming back) Who's planning on being at the HQ Thursday?
  10. I'll agree that having a huge list of combos is really confusing when you're trying to learn a character, however once you know the character and you're looking for the ideal combo for a specific situation, it's exactly what you want. So I think the best would be to have like 10 combos on the top that are essential to learn for the character (midscreen ground starter on standing, on crouch, 2C CH, grab, j.C air to air CH. corner 2A, 2B, 6B, 214D, grab.) followed by a huge listing for specific situations and starters. as an example, here's something there was in the CS1 bang combo thread. It was a joke, but the combos were more effective than nothing, easy as fuck, and I subbed the character using only these until I got more used to the character itself and looked for more. (and then dropped him to focus 100% on mu).
  11. a tier list it is. so I likely won't open the HQ then to play alone, netplay it is.
  12. 236D is guaranteed to come out on frame 37, j.236D is guaranteed on 38, 214D is 36F startup. It's usually a favorable trade when it happens. Yeah it's from sort of low, don't know the exact notation and maybe my memory isn't accurate, but it was chain CH, knockdown, 5C otg, 6C loops, D loop into DP D, j.6D otg, 6C loop?, ender. You get caught when you try to do stuff like jump cancel a ground stein and immediately place a stein in the air, so that is really a bad idea.
  13. I dunno, each time someone posts a tier list, there's gonna people who complain and disagree. What do you think about this tier list, kr3wman? I still have my HQ key. I think cranky is just saying that people will be at Foonzo tonight so don't bother going to the HQ if you want to play AE or MK. update : just texted cranky to make sure, he says no probs.
  14. Gonna repost the july arcadia tier list. QQ time! ------------------------------ S | Makoto ------------------------------ | Noel, Hazama, Jin A | Litchi, Valkenhayn | Carl | Rachel, Taokaka ------------------------------ | Tsubaki, Lambda, Platinum B | Haku-Men, Mu-12 | Arakune, Ragna, Bang ------------------------------ C | Tager ------------------------------
  15. Two games I had on stream at ECT, http://www.justin.tv/st1ckbug/b/288839547 at 1h2m. Played against a noel and bang, tourney nerves+driving 10h+ guy snoring in the room+no real CS2 matchup exp against these... yeah, but then again that's kinda the thing for everyone in a tournament setting. Geez looking back I can't believe I did the wrong stuff for the overhead combo in the corner, more than once Anyways, any advice appreciated
  16. why so stream monster? I started mashing max range 2C at some point in hopes of catching one but he stopped.
  17. Blade, maybe your team could end up like this : logan/tony/jean. That way when your opponents puts all his effort and ressources into dealing with logan and jean, you can make epic comebacks with iron avenger... all according to keikaku. NEC looks like the first weekend of december, so it's more like just before finals. At least I hope. Rhannmah has some pretty godlike videos there, I hope you check them all out. Brice's video should just encourage him to stop ragebursting like he always does so he can land some of these combos in matches. The vid kr3w linked as well was also great. blade you can watch my matches here http://www.justin.tv/st1ckbug/b/288839547 at 1h2m. (I play 2 different opponents in a row)
  18. oh, forgot about that. guess I'll stay posted, if no one feels like going to the HQ I'll just netplay or something.
  19. IMO, the big disadvantage I had going with almost strictly offline experience is that playing almost exclusively the same players, I wasn't used to adapting to different styles of play. Somehow michigan is posting here, come to Toronto's tournaments if some of you guys can, we'll try to be there, see who'll get exposed. brice you're slowpoke.jpg, Ken is the newest freest, although it might get passed on to nolan this Sunday, get hype! oh btw, turns out my parents are going to my uncle's place for a few days so I might as well go to the HQ tomorrow, show up if you want, in less than a month there's no more hq.
  20. Hype indeed! but on the subject of netplayers, don't forget omnisscythe (wasn't there but you know what I mean) and I think wolfkrone(not 100% sure he learned through netplay, but he definitely was there and won AE). So yeah, gonna netplay more now, I think it works and the lack of matchup exp was killing me. @Steb: don't think about it that way. He just had answers to the things I was abusing to beat you, so I had "flawed" matchup knowledge in a way. See it as a way to improve, as well as looking for a way to beat certain things. Like seriously, I could j.236A/j.D you about twice as much as zidane so my overall game was just completely ineffective against him, but against you, I didn't have to worry about finding solutions to your options, because you often drop combos or did less effecient ones.
  21. So I got to play Zidane a bit this weekend at ECT, we played about 20 or so casuals I think, I won a few rounds but that's it. I thought I knew the matchup a bit but woah, not as much as I thought. It's kind of a risk/reward thing though, because he was extremely effective with his chains and knockdows, but the stuff he got out of it made some of Mu's options horrible in comparison. He's extremely hard to corner, where Mu gets good damage and oki, so it really feels like an uphill battle. I know some of you might go "oh yeah it's so obvious" but eh, I'm just giving a summary of what I thought would be good to know. Doing stuff in the air is very risky, if he lands a CH chain, he's getting a 4.5k 80 heat (iirc) meterless combo and knockdown. Same for a stance-low (not necessary CH), or a 3C CH, all of these meterless, so if he needs, he can add a super or two (or three?) to finish you off. So IMO trying the laser fortress is not worth the risk/reward at all. I will give myself the option select of having driven 10hrs, without enough sleep and it being already kinda late for me for my bad mixup blocking reactions, but overall I was aware of what was going on, trying different tactics, learning the matchup as we played. The most effective way of playing I could come up with was to try to bait his way in by jumping and delaying my fall with steins/j.236A (one at a time obv). I talked to him a bit after, he says that hazama's chains screw too much with Mu's stein game to make it effective so you really have to somehow bait his approach and once you start applying pressure, don't stop, because hazama has a hard time getting out. I can't say how good backdash is in this matchup because after he caught me a few times doing it with his chains I stopped doing it completely. Ground 236A should only be used if you're cancelling something into it, at neutral it's more or less a free approach or punish depending on where he is. Air 236A to delay your fall is kinda useful, just don't get predictable. Same goes for j.236D except it's a lot slower so make absolutely sure you're safe when you're doing it, but it can allow you to get in on him, so it's good to use it every now and then. SoD is just bad, the recovery gives him a free punish if you whiff so it's just not worth the risk/reward. I tried using 6C to punish jump-back chains, but it just doesn't hit high enough, and 214D I don't really recommend using outside of setups, it comes out only 1F faster than 236D so it's just inferior at neutral due to his mobility. So really, I think the most important thing is to not get overconfident with 236A and keeping in mind that even placing 1 stein at a time is risky, so you always have to be 100% aware of his options with chains. Also, his AA 5A is pretty effective so don't jump in like a retard, it also hits you out of crossup attempts if you aren't covered by lasers, ground approach seems like the way to go, unless you yomi a chain and IAD j.B that shit. If anyone disagrees or has better ideas, feel free to correct me, I feel like I'm still missing something in this matchup. And remember, just because it worked on your local hazama doesn't mean it'll work on the top ones.
  22. in case anyone was wondering, here's what the total costs for the trip were (approx), divided by 4 for the costs we split up. room for 2 nights : 300/4 = 75$ gas total : 120/4 = 30$ highway toll : 20/4 = 5$ (lol missed a booth, gonna get fined by mail or something) venue fee : 25$ mcdonalds after the border : 8$ pizza : 8$ dunkin doughnuts : 7$ pizza : 7$ dunkin doughnuts : 7$ pizza : 8$ subtotal : 180$ entry for BB and AH3 singles: 10x2 = 20$ grand total : 200$
  23. Yeah I was the Mu, gonna definitely work on those matchups and come back strong at NEC. USA vs Canada for sure, this weekend it would have been me/brice/steb vs LK/Zidane/SKD so it just didn't happen btw good shit running the brackets, biscuits and stickbug. I do them in our tournaments so felt good not having to take care of it. Same for bringing the equipment I'll bring an evo monitor next time, though. @Calm: northeast championships
  24. So turns out the haz player I got bodied by in stickbug's room was zidane, wasn't sure when I last posted because everyone called him by his real name. I also got seriously blown up by SKD, only game I was able to win was against LK's litchi somehow. But yeah, I only played those three in our first night in NJ without knowing who 2 of them were so I went to bed slightly depressed. Now though I'm really happy about it, I can see that I still have a lot of work to do and I'm pretty motivated to put in that work. Not really salty overall, I just realized that I didn't have enough variety in my CS2 experience so I got blown up by stuff I wasn't expecting, didn't adapt to my opponents enough, and autopiloting a bit too much. Guess I'll just netplay more now, instead of spending time in training mode. I still have a lot of improvement to do. And yeah, sounds like NEC is the tournament to go to, it's in December, so save up and prepare your skills for this one, because we have to go to it, summer jam and seasons beatings not so worth it. So we'll probably still go to TO's tournament on july 16th, and probably T12 as well, but I don't think we'll be going anywhere else until NEC. Blade, only me and steb got some games on Justin.tv, I played against a noel and bang, and steb played against a noel and bang. Kaeru, steb got eliminated by 10stars, I got sent to losers by raiza (bang), the bang that eliminated brice was another.... you need to start coming back to meetups Also, where/which site do you suggest I should buy the neutrik rj-45 jack from? Do you have any rj-45 ends left? But daaaaamn why am I so shy/reserved, I would have loved to meet more people, play more casuals =/
  25. Okay so there was some pretty cool stuff in stickbug's room, there were like 20 people or so, played some guys from everywhere. We got bodied pretty hard in BB, by LK and this Hazama player. Apparently brice is good at GG, he was blowing people up and doing slashbacks and random stuff it was hype. Just got kicked out by security because we were making a lot of noise. oooh hey new guy, kinda funny but vice-taicho lives in montreal nord iirc so if ever you come maybe you could pick him up on the way to the HQ. The road to the HQ is pretty straightforward, you only have to turn like 2-4 times once you get off highway 40. Parking around it is good on sundays, but bad on thursdays, but it's doable, Rhannmah does it when he comes but you have to walk a bit, I'll give you the specifics if you want. By the way the HQ is closing in a month but we're going to keep having meetups at Foonzo, which is a cafe downtown with TVs. According to steb, they now have like 6-7 CRT setups, so get hype.
