You think this is bad? In SSF4 I main Ryu and sub everyone else.
-
After a bit of hard work last night I will definitely be subbing Order Sol. EDIT: Now to pick a costume colour http://guilty.xxxxxxxx.jp/ggxxac/index.htm

Hrmm... If I managed to find a PS2 copy of NGBC I could actually practice but, I already have too much shit I need to spend money on. BAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW!!! I need to win the lotto. EDIT: Apparently NGBC can be gotten for like $10 online. If I can find some extra cash lying around I might just pick it up.

I've been talking back and forth a bit with DarkGeese. He organizes King of Fighters tourneys and post a ton of match videos on his channel. I've been trying to get some info from him about the metagame of KoF and such. If any of you haven't checked out his channel and are at all interested in KoF you should go there now. Also, we need to play some KoF at the next meetup I attend/host. Even if I have to bring my PS2 and KoF98UM.

It sort of does. But its character specific and doesn't make things any easier. Ibuki, Dudley and Guy all have target combos which basically work like gatlings but they are very specific so like, Ibuki can do 5LP ->5MP ->5HK ->2HK or Dudley can do 6HK ->5MK. But they aren't special cancelable if you do them so you have to link them into other normals which can then be special canceled. Which can require a 1 to 3 frame link.

I think the part that pissed me off was this notion of things being "not street fighter" and being too "Marvel vs. Capcom". The game evolved over the years y'know? Each game is unique and has elements that are intrinsic to SF. SF3 is probably the least "Street Fighter" set in the series simply because it almost completely removed zoning as a tactic and, its not very "marvel" at all. Damn I wish Tumblr would come back up so I could rant about this more.

Did anyone watch this? http://combovid.com/?p=3556 I know I'm the main Capcom guy around here but, I went into it with an open mind and then started raging very quickly.

Mightfo haven't you learned the first rule of web 2.0? Never read the comments on anything. People are idiots.
-
Thats totally fair. I don't want to play Eddie either, and I'm only slightly interested in Testament. Tests unblockable setup is kinda gravy. I don't think I've ever even seen it lol
-
Mightfo, I'm not going to tell you not to play Bridget but, you know he's not the only one with unblockables right? Anji has at least one that I know of as well as guard points on some normals. Eddie is LOL UNBLOCKABLE OKI INTO KNOCKDOWN INTO UNBLOCKABLE OKI KEKEKEKEKEKEKE. Potemkin has the Gigantor Trap. Testament has at least one that I know of but its setup is random. Zappa has one I think.

Depending on who you decide to play BnBs aren't that difficult honestly its just a matter of practice like any other game. I'm currently maining Ky, and considering picking up Order-Sol, Millia or possibly even Testament. Ky's combos for the most part are super easy. I haven't done a full OS one yet but, I've only been messing around with it for a couple hours maybe off and on today. The real thing to learn IMO is just how your character plays and when to use what moves. That should make you at least competitive with the 3 of us.

From wiki Zanshin (Japanese: 残心) is a term used in the Japanese martial arts. It refers to a state of awareness – of relaxed alertness. The literal translation of zanshin is "remaining mind". In several martial arts, zanshin refers more narrowly to the body's posture after a technique is executed. [edit]In various martial arts In kyūdō, zanshin means the body posture after the loosing of an arrow; the posture is intended to reflect the higher meaning of zanshin, which is a mental aspect maintained before, during, and after an action. In karate, zanshin is the state of total awareness. It means being aware of one's surroundings and enemies, while being prepared to react. In the context of kendō, zanshin is the continued state of spirit, mental alertness and physical readiness to meet the situation (such as an opposing attack) that must be maintained when one returns to kamae after attacking. It is one of the essential elements that define a good attack. During the practice of aikidō, the usual method of practicing zanshin is to focus on the just-thrown uke, or opponent, while holding kamae and maintaining awareness in case there are additional attacks or attackers. In Iwama Style training, zanshin is practiced as general awareness of one's surroundings, of which uke is just a small part. "Zanshin means “the remaining mind” and also “the mind with no remainder.” This is the mind of complete action. It is the moment in kyudo (Zen archery) after releasing the arrow. This is “Om makurasai sowaka” in oryoki practice and drinking the rinse water. In shodo, it is finishing the brush stroke and the hand and brush moving smoothly off the paper. In taking a step, it is the weight rolling smoothly and the next step arising. In breathing in completely, it is this breath. In breathing out completely, it is this breath. In life, it is this life. Zanshin means complete follow through, leaving no trace. It means each thing, completely, as it is. When body, breath, speech and mind are broken from each other and scattered in concept and strategy, then no true action can reveal itself. There is only hesitation, or trying to push oneself past hesitation. This is the mind of hope and fear, which arises because one is trying to live in some other moment, instead of in the moment that arises now. One is comparing, planning, or trying to maintain an illusion of control in the midst of a reality which is completely beyond control"

Thats a good question. Someone with a car should field this one. Or we should talk about it at the meetup tomorrow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP1-oquwoL8 As often as I want :P I like the constant voices sort of. I wish Hazama didn't say dumb shit in english. Most everyone else I prefer they're english voices. Mainly because I don't speak Japanese so Japanese voices just become white noise to me. I have a friend I work with, who when I'm watching videos at work likes to ask me to, "Please turn down Japan." :P

Fixed that for you.

My point about AH3 was that I don't like those characters in the same way I like SF characters. I mean, as far as AH3 characters go the enjoyment is the silliness of it all. All I ultimately care about is the game itself. Sure, the characters in SF may seem boring to you but, to me they are simple and classic. At the time there weren't other games to compare Blanka, or Dhalsim to. They were amazing in their day. Ryu is the Karate guy. He's Oyama. He's Sonny Chiba. He's Doppo Orochi and thats cool to me. When you go in describe the characters of BB in depth sure you get to the meat of what actually attracts the people who play BB to their respective characters my point was simply what you get on surface value. People at large don't play SF cause they look at it and think, "Oh this guy is cool." They play it because with SF4 Capcom came out and said, "Hey guys you remember Street Fighter right? Well its back, and now its 3D and has everyone you remember as a kid." Sure some people may pick it up because of one or 2 new characters that seem cool but by and large its a game that made its initial splash off off nostalgia alone. Newer fighting games obviously don't have that luxury. SF and Tekken characters come off as boring to you. Most of the people I know who aren't otakus find BB, GG and, AH characters to be completely over the top and will likely never touch the games. I'm not really down about the local scene. I think its going pretty good right now.
-
Say what you want about me since I've never been to a tourney. But its not like I don't do my part. I host meetups at least twice a month. I pushed for BB at my college's gaming club and tried to organize a tourney there. Sure the college stuff didn't pan out but, its not like I haven't tried to help the scene out. I'm not saying there isn't any hope for the Dallas scene but, just from my position its a hard sell for me to get people I meet even remotely interested in this game. It has a lot of things that just turn the average person off.

There's an iPlayWinner BB podcast where they talk about why BB isn't as popular as it could be. One of the things they say, is that the character designs turn people off. I mean, how many people genuinely like Platinum or, Carl as characters in a non-tongue in cheek sort of way? I like Arcana Heart characters because they are so ridiculous. I like Ryu because he is Ōyama Masutatsu.
-
Not really. Its because fancy new fighters turn people off with ANIMAY!!!! Seriously, I try to get people interested in playing BlazBlue and immediately they're like, "WTF is this shit? Do you have Halo HERP DERP" Its why people like Mortal Kombat. Capcom fighters at least have nostalgia factor. Mortal Kombat has blood so people(read:Americuh) like that shit regardless of whether its good. EDIT: Also Jin, is the only shoto in BB. Ragna is not a shoto.

I love shotos. I don't understand why they would add Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma though. Especially since Shin Akuma is already in SSF4. They could have actually added interesting palette swaps. Or OMG make Charlie as to Guile, as Ken is to Ryu. I would have JIMP'd. EDIT: I'm even more annoyed cause they could have added Sean. Who would at least be as different from the other shotos as they are from each other. Fucking Ono.

Wish I could come tomorrow but, I gotta do BS. Fricken life.

We should be good to go for Saturday. I'm totally pumped. 2 PS3 setups, and 2 PS2 setups. Also, I think when I finally have the cash for a nice dual-modded stick, I'm gonna get some Jubei-Chan artwork for it. That anime was fucking great.
-
Just a heads up for Saturday's meetup. We're gonna start at 3PM. If anyone needs directions PM me. Zreb I would appreciate it very much if you would bring your setup. Ronin, if you're coming would you bring your TV just to make sure we can do PS2. I have GGAC+ but if you'd bring your memory card too, it'd be most appreciated. That would make 2 PS3 BlazBlue setups and 1 PS2 GGAC+/3rd Strike/CvS2/Alpha3 setup. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
