  1. Yeah, lot of lunchtime players. Not that I know about now, since I haven't been to the arcade in a while. Still haven't decided on Revelations, not been practicing, too much work.
  2. That was more like breakfast, mirite? I actually agree with a lot of what qwerty said, if I'm understanding correctly. From the people I've talked to, many have expressed interest in XIII but don't have the experience and/or access to the game via console or arcade. There are also a lot of BB players, but they're purely console only. Regardless of logistical issues, bringing over a CS2 cab wouldn't really make sense financially. I think I spent more on the CS1 cab than anyone here, which now got replaced with XIII (which I see get a lot of traffic).
  3. Rod, how does it feel to be gdlk at one of the most difficult FGs that no one plays, then to lose at one of the scrubbiest games that everyone plays? I like how you grouped non-gamers and women together. I might have to bring booze AND paper towels for people throwing up.
  4. http://shoryuken.com/f23/southtown-arcade-san-francisco-ca-official-thread-get-money-get-paid-272025/ o.O holy shit. Look at the gamelist. On JPN parts for a quarter.
  5. Indians: Nice boat Pilgrims: Have AIDS, you may die note: This post is NOT about anime, American history or pixelated Michael Cera.
  6. MvC3 seems to have some weird thing with registering qcf and holdover forward inputs creating DPs (like some other Capcom games), as well as registering qcfs when DP was inputed. At first I thought it was just me and my terrible execution, but a number of players have brought it up. I also noticed that there was some quirkiness to AH3 command interpreter, but I can't pinpoint exactly since I didn't spend much time with that game. Safest route is to go to training mode, turn on command history and try to clean up all your inputs.
  7. The hell? This Japanese is playing as good as an AMERICAN.
  8. As if, even with months of practice, people don't drop basic combos. "Wow that works?" applies to CS1 all the time with the ghetto bluebeats/pickups/resets.
  9. This, but 08th MS Team is good too, if not a little cheesy (well all Gundam are, to an extent). I'd recommend the original MSG, but it's kind of long. Just watch Char's Counterattack to see the conclusion of the MSG->Zeta->ZZ chronology. But again, you might not be too familiar with all the characters. G Gundam is the best Gundam.
  10. It's perfectly fine as a standalone series, just familiarity with the background and characters will enhance your viewing experience. Unicorn is definitely the best Gundam series I've seen in a while. While it still has the stock "war is bad, people die when they are killed" cryfest sermonizing, the directing is great, songs are nice, plot is pretty interesting. qwerty, you going down to the SFSU RnC tourney next weekend?
  11. No ninjas allowed. R Kelly on the bushes is gdlk tho.
  12. Lol, by tonight I thought you meant now (posting at Rod's right nao with no Rod in sight).
  13. Sounds like you guys had fun. I had an overly long Friday session and ended up not sleeping and missing NCI. FML. I caught the stream though. Skullgirls looks to be coming along great. huey/Dacid match was hype, Spark is a good Hakumen. I agree on the complaints about commentary, in-jokes/hate/putting people on blast should only take up a minority (if present at all) of in-match talk. The actually interesting and relevant stuff like matchup details, play-by-play and player tendencies (especially this) should be what you guys are talking about if you actually know what you're talking about.
  14. David Sirlin made a great point when he said you should always balance around high level play. If you watch weekly tournament footage, people finding more and more that Sentinel wasn't really that intimidating and actually pretty free in a number of matchups provided you played intelligently. Super armor normals only dominate if you mash, they get blown up if you're smart since they're something like -15 on block. Why not nerf Wesker or Taskmaster too? They have high health and damage output as well as having way better mixup than the Robot's frying pan/2B xN with occasional command throw.
  15. Lol at a SF game where Ryu's hadoken is useless as a zoning tool. Although I do like 3S's style.
  16. Birthday bash at my house this Saturday (tomorrow). I live in San Francisco city. BB/GG/AH3/Marvel 2+3, ice cream and pizza all day. Everyone's welcome. PM me for address and details. Setups/TVs are also very welcome, as my CRT box has been acting very weird and no one wants to play on a laggy LCD, right? See ya'll there.
  17. GGs to everyone. I should've gotten in some AC before I left. Nice meeting you Rin.
  18. To be fair, qwerty IS an SNK fanboy but he has a very good point because KoF13 has probably the best looking HD 2D fighter sprites out right now. Everything he (and everyone else) in this thread has said is valid. They're all telling you the same thing but you seem to have some kind of contradictory, overly presumptive attitude. On the one hand you're just calling this some humble fan project but on the other your first post is heavily implying that the ArcSys should hire you and put you in charge of a project to "give the fans what they want" even though no one's seriously being asking for a GG vs. BB and especially not with your odd-looking (Jin is supposed to be a bishie pretty boy, if you didn't get that), super color-compressed eyeache-inducing style.
  19. The Eudemonia thread and posters have relocated to http://shoryuken.com/f23/berkeley-sf-freedemonia-thread-meets-weekly-sfsu-253079/ as they have a good deal running with someone who works there who can appropriate an area with ample space for weekend sessions with no venue fee. The site is variable but last time the session was held at the Crossroads dining hall with at least 5 setups and 30 people with room for much more. If there is a issue with either SJSU or EU, as an alternative you might want to talk to Worf Jostar to set something up.
  20. Came expecting chicken.... and I got wheelchairs and frying pans.
  21. Dante isn't that hard on pad. The advanced excution stuff is basically Jump install/Tiger Knees with a couple of quick repeated qcf/DP motions thrown in. If Wolfkrone can do SF4 C.Viper and Fanatiq can play MvC2 Magneto(!!!) on pad, there shouldn't be any problem with Dante. Zero on the other hand, isn't necessarily difficult but just completely physically awkward considering you have to switch buster charge (holding buttons down) to do his advanced BnB, which would require some weird thumb dexterity or special button mapping. But pad Eddie players, so ya.
  22. I mean random as in a non-comboed guess, maybe from wakeup. I've seen Evo top placers eat random ultras to the face. Whether or not that led to them losing in a tournament I don't know, but the whole idea behind a overly powerful comeback mechanic (which is what I'm lumping in X-factor with) is stupid IMO. And it IS extremely easy to learn to utilize. Your first two characters die. You activate and suddenly you have an insane damage boost. Any hit you land is super buffed and a single combo will OHKO. The skill gap between a scrub and a skilled player hasn't changed, it's just the risk from getting hit once is greatly skewed in the scrub's favor. People can say "it's fair because both players have access to it", but just because both players can do it, doesn't change the fact that it's a stupid mechanic.
