The Good, the Bad, and Ugly as Hell Baiken Matchups
tolore replied to THE SERAPHIC 1's topic in Baiken
assuming you mean j.d->fall a bit->j.sd/tatami/empty jump, the only problem with that is pot's GODLY forward punch that leads to damage and point blank knock down on hit, or leaves you right next to him on block with him ready to go, either way is a bad bad situation. I believe if the potemkin times it right you cannot one frame jump on wake up. Most good pots don't use his jump D too much, it's not all that great of a move, especially ones who know the baiken matchup because of the counters you mentioned, unless they like spikes up the butt . Thanks for the help so far! -
The Good, the Bad, and Ugly as Hell Baiken Matchups
tolore replied to THE SERAPHIC 1's topic in Baiken
So lets talk some jam and pot(mainly because my evo bracket has justin wong and flash metroid in it ). Pot I generally try and stay away from him and zone with tatami/j.s, I try and stay at a range where I can punish random slide heads but far enough away that he can't hammer fall break pot buster me. Any IAD'ing that's not in reaction to random slide head is basically suicide because his forward punch is so godly(although from far enough distances j.s can clash/beat it). Chain seems kinda good kinda bad in this matchup, too close and you have to worry about pot buster(although chain->6K might be good pressure?). He might also be able to slide head chain on reaction. As for stopping meaty slide head our only option is basically super on reaction, or backdash. Other than that I just block low and occasionally get wrecked by whiff busters because i NEVER see it coming. Any more info(or any corrections) are more than welcome! Jam I have basically no experience with which is unfortunate, the only ones i've had even someone consistent play with is digital watches(not NEARLY as good as his axel), and bluewindz(i believe he was severely out of practice because of blaz blue when I was playing him). A couple things, her air moves and anti airs are very strong(2.s i think beats out a lot of baikens air moves) so jumping can be pretty dangerous, and obviously getting hit is BAD since she puts out slayer/may level damage. Chain can get force break puff ball'd on reaction into death I believe. meaty tatami mats and yozansens can get parried, although I think they are still useful. So what's good to poke with in this matchup, 2.s? 2.d? well spaces j.s? j.d I remember being a vaguely useful poke in this matchup. On the plus side jam dies pretty fast if you do get her. -
yeah i'm hoping actually practicing the right thing will do the trick, I did kinda figure out the height i need to actually hit them with the 2d(in that i know it but can't hit it consistently yet). The b cancelling tip will probably be pretty helpful since i wasn't even trying to be cancel it yesterday at all so i have no intuition whatsoever as to where it should be.
-
alright, I totally practiced it the wrong way yesterday(I was doing 2d->land->b->taunt which actually CAN work but it's stupidly hard) After looking at the list/seeing it in a match vid i realized that i was probably doing it wrong.
-
for the j2d~b -> Taunt, what exactly is happening there. is that cancelling the j2d with b then landing and taunting? so if I'm reading it right you j2d, cancel with b land and taunt?

It's a double post, but that last post was a while ago, and i've got a new videos(there might be another one with me vs hellsap later)! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-4177oy3Ms&feature=channel_page So the first round of this is terrible and I feel like a mega scrub for playing like that, after about 2 and a half minutes I start playing better, I'd still love advice on anything I do poorly. Also tips on the dizzy match in general would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I've gotten worse in the last couple months so now I'm motivated to get back up to speed(and then even better!). edit: also here's one of the old videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3AeNRKEWVI any tips on that one would also be great! The other vids i have are too long to put on you tube and I don't have/know how to get free video editing software.
-
Here's some vids from the first time I've ever been recorded, I've been in multiple tournaments where I was the only top 8/5 player who didn't get recorded(I'm somehow really good at avoiding the recording tv's even though I want to be recorded). So here's some of my matches! If it's easy enough i'll upload them on you tube sometime next week(i don't know how to do it though). http://www.megavideo.com/v/LCGRF5QH84fa1544cca5e2e72132e91012552a79 That one was tough, it was the first time I had played a good A.B.A, her hit box makes her really tough for baiken to combo and I wasn't used to it, i end up fighting thisi guy FOUR times between 2 double elimination tournaments. http://www.megavideo.com/v/HWPH0QNR9c565f9a18a3a87ef8c793b4f5af6eff Here's where I finally redeem myself and defeat the hated ABA player after 3 horrible losses(the 3rd fight doesn't have a 'watch' option for some reason, i'll get it up later). this match puts us up to the semi finals http://www.megavideo.com/v/86SLOIK60cd5e48a9a10fcf0828bcde861329a6a Here's my team taking down one of the teams slated to win the tournament, the testament player won singles and has placed top 2 for a while in most of th enorthwest tournaments. I usually do pretty well against him, but end up getting eliminated by someone else(there's a zappa i regularly lose too, and an eddie i regularly lose too). Well those are my first every recorded matches, they are from forever ago, so there are some things I do a lot better now, anyway tell me how y'all like em! Any critique is also more than welcome, I'm always trying to improve my game! edit: one thing I notices, I TK yozansen more often/more consistently now, I also don't jump around like a fool as much(although I still do sometimes).
-
there's basically no reason to end an air combo in yozansen in accent core, j.d can be used in the same situation almost always and nets knock down. ^h on the ground hit is generally not worth it unless it's going ot kill them(which it almost never does). It's better to leave em on the ground and get meaty options such as dropping a tatami mat oh them or meaty j.hs. tatami->j.psd is the default combo, it needs a super jump or a delayed tatami that still combo's on may, dizzy, and maybe bridget, and it does not work on baiken at all. Fuast uses the kick variant.
-
I believe that was narena if it was 2k8 finals(hell monkey was on that team but he was playing eddie in teams). There's a lot of combos you can do off of jump heavy, that particular one i believe only works on faust(maybe a few other huge characters) because of his ginormous air hit box. random note: apparently ginormous is actually a word, I didn't know that(yay spellcheck).
-
Alternatively for faust just combo into sweep instead of tatami mat gatling->2.d->jcancel->j.d->FRC->air dash->whatever. This also works on may.
-
you can also blue roman the 4hs->tatami, it's not worth it at all compared to 2k->5.s->jump->air combo, or run up a little->tatami-> jump aircombo.
-
One thing to keep in mind is 2.d combos into j.d from any distance.
-
He's obviously talking about the most powerful tactic of all, tk yozansen blue roman burst grab!
-
the FRC on the yozansen is both very difficult and not very useful. I'm pretty sure it's before the hit, and if it's not it's before the hit comes out enough to be useful. You can use it to do a quick overhead kick or something. Theres a combo very similar to that though, TK yozansen RC-> air tatami -> dust loop.
-
Yeah, sometimes I screw up the j.D air dash tatami for relaunch in matchups I don't play very often. That's one of the things I go through on every character before a big tournament so I don't screw up and look like a fool. Although the nice part is it really just wastes tension(which still sucks), you still get the damage and knockdown though.
-
Seeing sharon make some of the same execution mistakes I sometimes make makes me feel much less bad about them.
-
wow those are both really helpful, we might have just gotten our first serious ABA player in the northwest(actually i think there's a Canadian one but i don't get to play him much). So being able to capitalize on dust will help a lot(although first we gotta get him up to speed!). Now we just need a jam so I can stop losing to matches I really shouldn't.
-
As soon as video's from my last tournament are I was gonna throw em up and see what people think. I managed to fight the same ABA player four times between 2 double elimination tournaments. I had no idea what to do in the begging but by the 4th time i beat him! knowing i had to jump and faultless to block the attack where ABA gets up on her key and kicks you in the face helped a lot in the later matches.

I generally back dash, or IAD back tatami, be careful though as he CAN tag this( although it's hard and he has to be expecting it). I generally try and stay somewhat out of his range and poke at him with chain and 2s, his far slash will beat 2s at certain distances/times as will his steam, but both of those get counter hit by the chain so it's dangerous for him to do that. 6k crushes pretty much all of his pokes, the best he can hope for is if he predicts it and does a VERY earlier far slash or steam. Also something I just learned recently, my robo ky friend was messing around in training mode and he says he can dragon punch out of 2k->5s gatling, so that's a little terrifying(he hasn't done it to me yet, but i did see him do it in training mode). I'll see if i can get some matches recorded with my robo ky friend this friday before i make the long painful transfer to stick playing. He's probably one of the best robo ky's in the US(i haven't fought east coast robo ky's though, lazy bums didn't go to evo) and we generally go pretty even. We might both be showing up in a couple weeks at canada when you return so you can get some robo practice in then if we do. -
what is this 'GGPO' you speak of?

If it makes you feel better blarg I don't hate you for playing may, maybe thats just cuz i win! I've got some stuff i can help you with now though, frank the tank was doing doing stuff to me and i was like 'dang this is the kind of stuff blarg needs to be doing'.

Good stuff at EVO hellmonkey, way to represent baiken(at leas tin singles i saw you switching to baiken a lot). I'm glad i got a few matches in with you as well, even though you wrecked me with like 4 different characters .
